What is your favorite thing about being back in the states?

My friends and family being so close of course! My niece is a 20 minute drive away. And bookstores. I can read in French and Spanish, better in Spanish, but both are options for me. So when I'm abroad it's not like I'm completely limited, but I can't just go grab any book off the shelf, I have too look at the translator to see if it's one I know. I have to consider the amount of colloquialisms potentially used and how dense the prose might be. Have I read much from that author? Do I know the genre well? Blah blah blah, but here in the states I can just grab a book and go.

Are you rich?

Lol! I grew up in northern MI farm country. Not an urban poor or trailer park poor, the kinda poor where you don't really know it because it's just the way it is. It took me years to get to a middle class income where I am right now. It helps that I don't have dependents or much debt other than a very small amount in student loans, but respectable amount considering most ppl my age have @ least 3x's what I have. So here I am in this middle class salary but I can't get past living like I'm poor because it's what I know. So 30% of my salary goes into savings so I can get off the grid someday soon ish, but the rest of my disposable income is new to me and I've never been a big shopper so I'm pretty generous with it. I'm taken care of, I have some in savings, I do alright.

Do you support any causes?

Every year I give 10% of my meager income to charity. I choose 2 and each 5%. Then I do one day a week where I do some volunteer work. That has varied from soup kitchens, to women's shelters, to rape crisis centers, to education programs....I also make it a point to support independent creators such as musicians throughout the year.

Happy Birthday! How old are you?

Thank you! I'm going to just go ahead and start back at the age of 18 if no one minds....

When is the last time you went on a date, what did you do, and how did it go?

Just moved back to the states after two years of living and traveling abroad. Right before I left I had met a guy and we really hit it off. Came back, went on a date with him last night, standard dinner and movie, Indian food, movie was a doc on youtube, he even watched one with commentary with me. Seemed to go well, trouble is I'll only be in the states for 9 months so getting too committed seems kinda pointless. But he did laugh at my jokes and laughed at one of my favorite comedians with me so that was cool.

What are your bad habits?

I let my cellphone die and leave it off for days at a time sometimes which makes it hard for people to get a hold of me. I ignore my email if it gets too chaotic in there. I break into song and or laughter sporadically. I'm sure there are others as well.

What would make you most happy in this world?

Living in a little house with a couple acres in the mountains somewhere where I can garden, and read, and bake cookies for my closest neighbors (who will be miles away) with a dog and a cat and my solitude. Where I can pretend the rest of the world isn't on fire.

What is your dream job?

Antique book appraiser and restorer. Broadway Actress. Flapper Girl. Trophy Wife. Stay At Home Mom. Translator of only the best of the best literary texts. Egyptology Person. I'll happily settle for librarian though.

What are your favorite horror movies?

Ones that actually scared me? The Shining still scares me a little, The Fourth Kind (don't judge, I just have a thing about aliens), and the 2005 Amityville Horror remake with Ryan Reynolds...the original didn't scare me much, but the remake did. Ones that have disturbed me more than scared me...Human Centipede, House of 1,000 Corpses, and The Devil's Rejects. But I just kinda love the classic cheesy Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween type series as well.

What TV shows do you like?

I don’t watch much TV, but I did get really into Mad Men when that was on. It was very out of character for me, but I was committed to that. A while ago I was having a lot of health problems and had some down time and watched the first two seasons of Orange is the New Black, I liked it but not enough to pick it back up. I can always go for an episode of King of the Hill, or Bob’s Burgers, or It’s Always Sunny, but it’s rare occasion I watch more than one or two episodes at a time.

Ya like accents? ;)

lol, well...there's no telling how I will react when presented with a Boston accent. It's usually with delight though. I like a rougher Irish accent (think Brad Pitt Snatch), I never cared for Australian accent either way until I lived with an Australian guy for a while and somehow he made the word cunt seem endearing. I had a rasta roommate once and that kinda grew on me, and I love a proper Brit-ish accent as well. Give me a mollasses slow eloquent southern drawl and I'll melt. But above all I like crystal clear English pronunciation. It thrills me.

Which cities would you like to visit around the world?

I've been fortunate enough to get to a lot of great and interesting cities. I also don't want to say I really want to go to x,y,z because I've done that and been let down upon arrival, and I never was interested in Bogota in particular but loved it when I was there. However someday I would like to get to Paris even if just for a few days.

What are you scared of?

Deep water; I'm ok with rivers, lakes, and shores of the ocean, but I don't wanna be out there in the middle of the ocean. Bats, moths, aliens, and calliope music makes me uncomfortable.

What was your worst subject in school?

Philosophy was the only subject I struggled with immensely in University. Science was hard, but I could power through. I'm surprisingly good at math. Lit and history....yeah...try me. Foreign languages; got it. Philosophy made me feel stupid. I'm just not a deep thinker I guess.

What is your favorite sad song?

Sweet Jane by The Cowboy Junkies....Hey Xandra you already know all my music habits, is it just 'cuz you're gonna miss me when I'm gone?

What is the most romantic song you can think of?

Close your eyes I'll be here in the morning Townes Van Zandt or Crazy Love Van Morrison or Into the Mystic by the Alman Brothers

What friend have you known the longest?

I have a friend I've known since preschool, another I've known since elementary school, and then one I've known for about 10 years now. Those are my real world friends. But since I consider some of my internet people friends as well I have a few people online that I have known for 10+ years now. It's a shame we don't all run into each other more these days and I miss them dearly as the internet has become boring without them.

When was the last time you spent an entire day without your phone? What did you do?

I do this daily. I just don't like having my phone with me, and I don't like being connected 24/7. So I guess today was the last time and I spent it at work.
