i was on a video of yours & i noticed u said u keep a database of screencaps & i was wondering how u go about it? cause i'm really bad at recalling good shots but i want to find some way to improve this. can u share what your system is? & like how u also keep track of parallel quotes & scenes?
Oh yeah I'd die without that database. :'D
As I watch something, I save screenshots in my player (mpc hc). It saves the name of the screenshot with the name of the episode and right after it, the time in that episode at which the screenshot was taken. So when I later go into the folder for a given show, I see the screenshot of a scene/shot and I automatically know exactly where it is.
For example:
2x05 - Human Trials [HD].mkv_snapshot_40.34_[2015.12.26_17.38.04]
(that last part is not needed but it'd just be too much work to remove it)
For quotes, I simply write down the quote in the name of that screenshot. And add "q" at the end so that I could later just type "q" into the search and have all my quotes pop up.
For example:
2x05 - Human Trials [HD].mkv_snapshot_26.59_she stopped being a kid the day you sent her down here to die q[2015.12.26_17.35.24]
That way, if I prepare it well, I can have little to no quote searching before I start a video. When I started my Lucas Hood video, I just searched for "q" in my Banshee folder and then just had to choose the quotes I thought wiould be useful to me. :D
For parallels, I have the same system as with quotes. I just save the scene and type in "parallel" in the name +which scene would be that parallel (so I don.t forget). And then I can just search by typing "parallel" into the search thingy. ^^
For example:
6x08 - Start to Finish [HD].mkv_snapshot_03.20_lydia 3x06 parallel[2016.02.05_20.35.50]
So yeah that's basically it. It helps a lot when watching a show from the beginning, you already know what to pay attention to. Because then you save all the stuff that you feel you'll need in the future. But it also works amazing for remembering the beautiful shots and parallels. You can have any filters you want. I sometimes also filter for example "slow mo", "screaming", "shooting" etc. But you just have to dedicate yourself to actually doing the screenshots and storing them in an organized way.
I currently have 7 268 screenshots in 131 folders, and they take over 500mb. FML hahaha.
If you have some more questions, fire away. ^^
