How do you balance time between working on personal projects, or drawing for money and videogames?

Hm I would say I don't balance them well. I don't put a lot of time into personal work or playing video games recently. Go to work, come home and rest a bit, might have some freelance to do. Trying to be healthy and cook at home and exercise more too, so time leftover for personal work is small! Usually I'd rather get out of the house and see some friends if I have to choose between the two.
I often feel like I could be working harder than I do, but the good thing about having an art job is I know I'm always improving. I also know I don't want to be working 24/7. So in general, I guess I just try to take life as it comes.

Do you prefer Japanese culture/society to western?

I don't think one is much better than the other overall. I think when it comes to art, Japanese culture may have a leg up on us, especially when it comes to comic creators getting proper recognition and so on. But I think with the general surge in "indie" creators on all artistic fronts in the US lately, we are catching up quickly.

Whats your most used computer program for work? Also, do you use any open source programs for anything at all?

Zbrush, 3dsMax, Photoshop. You could easily use Blender and Gimp for the latter 2. I do plan on learning Blender in the future so I can help more people learn 3D with accessible software. As for Zbrush though, there's not really a viable free alternative right now.

What sort of specs on a computer do I need to start learning 3D

Ideally you want a computer that can run modern games fairly well, but if you just want to learn low poly stuff you could probably do it on any computer made in the past 5 years. My laptop is about 4 years old now and it still works fine for all my work, though it was a pretty high-end laptop when I got it.

Max did you watch Yoru no Yatterman and if so what did you think?

I haven't heard of this one but I feel like Yatterman was pretty nice without a Sexy Little Girl character

do you think it would have been better if dori ended up w that mexican soccer boy?? he was cute and i always think about him

i'm not qualified to speak to this

Why is your favorite Gundam Turn-A Gundam?

I haven't seen Turn A or a lot of other series, but I like the original Gundam and 08th MS Team from the few I've seen. I probably will watch more like Turn A and Z / ZZ eventually but I'm busy watching L-Gaim for now

How much 3D stuff have you learned outside of school? Do you have any favorite tutorial sites?

My college (Art Institutes) was bad and mainly we just learned the interface and basic tools. I didn't even get the hang of zbrush until a few years after graduating. As for tutorial sites....I haven't used many, but the few I remember are 3dtotal.com and the Gnomon video catalogue. My learning experience was mostly to just try every button in 3dsMax and google when I broke something

what is your favorite magical girl design wise

I like Nurse Witch Komugi due to the sheer absurdity and clutter of it. Ojamajo Doremi probably wins overall, especially with those patissier outfits.
Does Guu count? She's a good magical girl.

do you play pokemon? And if so; which starter is your favourite?

I played a couple in my life, I choose Snivey even though I didn't play that one

ok but do you like fried egg on burgers this is important

I think I only tried it once at a Steak n Shake and it was fully cooked egg which I doubt is the deluxe way to eat it. I can imagine liking runny egg in a burger easily.

What game got you into wanting to make games in the first place?

That's a good question and I might not have an answer?? Probably not a particular game. When I decided to go to college for 3D game art, it was more of a logical choice than an especially motivated one. I thought I wouldn't be able to handle an "illustrator" freelance-heavy career, and 3D art seemed like more of a secure option. It's kind of me meeting halfway between "following your dream of being an artist" and "taking a normal 9-to-5 job". Not to say I don't enjoy it -- it turns out I'm much better at 3D.

what's your go-to junk and/or comfort food?

panda express, pecan pralines, country fried steak, chicken nuggets

What is your favorite of all the 3D prints you've ever made?

I've only made two so far actually!! I have done tons of research in the area but they can get pretty expensive to actually order. But I just ordered one that will definitely be my fav so far. I can't show that one publicly yet but hopefully soon. I plan on getting some more made in the next month or two!

what is your favorite video game and anime

I can only safely go by "at the moment", which I guess would be the new Monster Hunter on 3DS, and Heavy Metal L-Gaim.
Some long lasting video game favs are Final Fantasy Tactics and Breath of Fire 3. I am a big fan of old Namco arcade games though I never really played them! Games like Dragon Buster, Legend of Valkyrie, Libble Rabble. Cute and charming.
Anime is harder because I grew up watching Bad Shows like Gundam Wing that don't hold up when I rewatch them today. But the original Dragonball series is pretty excellent. Kaiba is really good too!
I have a deeply concerning love for Toriko but the comic is way better than the animation.
