So we were on the line some said that the word of God should come to convict us and we shouldn't sugar coat it and that it should pierce our hearts...are you basically saying that it is to instill fear in us?
Fear is never from God. But do not be deceived that we must fear nothing else but God. And the fear of God is not an emotion contrary to popular beliefs. To fear God is to honor, respect, and show him reverence in EVERY aspect of your life. Yes indeed honor, respect and reverence are beautiful things to do. But they are the exact things that shows that we fear God. When it comes to the Word of God, it comes to convict. What that means is if you're living a life in the "world" yet you seek after the blessings and the "good" things the Bible says then you're deceiving yourself. The Bible is the Word of God and it is true, for Everyman living in sin the Word of God comes to convict them to repent; and the privilege to confess, repent and be forgiven is proof of God's grace gained through Jesus Christ. Now when we see Christ and search Him day by day, we begin to Love and not like that of the world but like Christ. And as the Bible says there is no fear in love and perfect love casts out all fear. So whoever fears is not perfected in love. (1 John 4:18). So long sorry short NO! the Word of God does not instill fear (the emotional kind). But it convicts us if we're living an unjust life to repent and fear God through (honoring, respecting, and reverencing His Word). Amen.
