maybe i'm being a tad bit dramatic but hear me out on this one. i say this all the time and for most of the time, i believe it: my account grows slowly (emphasis on slowly) and i am happy about because unlike others, i've never received hate or anything even similar to it. there are times when i'm not so sure about that (or anything in my life tbh.)
wattpad has been a huge part of my life since the beginning of early 2014 and maybe that's my mistake. i've seen people with books that aren't that good (plot-wise or the language used in the story is fairly average) and these books have thousands/millions of reads and i'm not saying that these people don't deserve it, they do. wattpad is for everyone including writers who are average because practice will eventually make them better. what i am trying to say is that I deserve better. no fucking body reads my stories or leaves any sort of feed back and it lowers my self esteem which is already at the bottom of the pacific ocean already. logically, i know that this shouldn't bother me and my wattpad account doesn't actually show how i progress irl but fuck logic. logic doesn't soothe me when i'm wallowing in self pity. i would like to know why people don't read anything i write (except for a handful) and i would like to not feel like an inadequate friend. i have tried to befriend many people but so many are obsessed with how many followers they have and how their ratio is so ugly and how they cant follow over 30 people because it'll make their profile not as aesthetic looking. i've also seen a person befriend another person because they are popular and become popular because of this friendship. i've seen it so fucking many times.
my heart hurts knowing the fact that wattpad has become all about fake, superficial friendships and fame. i do not, in any way resent these writers or anything because i know it's all about luck. i do, however, have a problem with feeling that i'm a horrible writer and that my stories suck. and i cannot - will not let wattpad and its fucked up algorithm trample over my heart over and over again like it has been for the past year.
i'm just going to keep reading random stories and stuff and try to make random friends and but once i'm done posting hang ups and dow, i'm done with writing and posting on wattpad. i have written so many stories and i don't post them on wattpad because i'm scared that maybe people will hate it/or not care about it. i'm done over-thinking about how my story will be perceived. i am going to write for myself and keep it for myself because if i am not getting the recognition i deserve, then wattpad and its people sure as fuck don't deserve me.
ps- no offence intended to anyone who feels like this is directed at them and sorry this rant is all over the place.
