Why aren’t mustaches called mouth brows?
That's an excellent question, Steve. I think primarily because if you grow a proper one, they aren't split in the middle, thus they are more of a 'mono-mouth brow', which just becomes a mouthful to say.
It's etymological origins lie in 1580s French 'moustache', derived from italian 'mostaccio', which, in turn, derives from Medieval Greek 'moustakion' which was their word for 'upper lip.'
So know you know why moustaches are called moustaches. But you weren't expecting this, where you, you little word-play comedian.
