Wait does AT&T have good signal there ?

I used to use AT&T at IMSA, and the signal is pretty strong (4bars)

So during move in weekend are we allowed to go off campus to places within walking distance?

i do not think so

So I know we need a binder for Spanish, but will we need a separate notebook? Or do we keep our notes in our binder?

i would recommend getting a notebook as well, or at least loose leaf because you need paper for assignments and notes.

What kind of laundry machine do the halls have

Older washers and dryers that you have to put the detergent into and have settings knobs for delicate, hot, cold. They only take laundry cards to start the machines though so bring cash to fill up.

So I'm in band and I practice a ton on weekends and stuff... will practice rooms and instruments be accessible over the weekend?

As of the past, yes, they will be, but security has locked them for reasons and if you want to practice and you have an instrument you don't mind carrying back to your room when they do that, then I would bring it back to your room. Most of the time though you can access the practice rooms and instruments no problem though.

Are you allowed to go into other halls and other wings to see your friends?

If they're in other halls, you can visit them anytime before in-hall. If they're in your hall, you can visit them anytime before in-room. If they are of the opposite sex, you might not be able to visit them in their wing unless you have an intervis (which is a second semester thing)

Where does Verizon have signal because when I went for orientation I was pretty much dead

It gets pretty good signal in the math area and around most halls (i know parts of 1502 are bad). The worst areas are Sodexo and the TV pit. But hopefully we will be able to connect to wifi on phones this year!

No. You may bring one, but it has to stay in the wing commons. You can say that it is only for you to use, but most people share.

Hey @ the one wi-fi question. We were told that we would be allowed to connect to airIMSA for the first time. Did they change that?

As far as I know, that has not changed. This is a new thing this year so us upperclassmen don't know much about it.

Do people bring cases of water bottles to keep in their rooms?

Yes definitely bring bottled water with you. That way, you don't need to rely on the water fountains in the halls because after 11:00, you will have to be in your room and you won't be able to use them.

You aren't allowed to use the school wifi "airimsa" with your phone. However you can use the wifi "imsaexperiment" until 10:00 PM with your phone. After that, you will need to use data.

Is the campus open on weekends and stuff? How does that work? Obviously we'd have to get food and stuff... how about teachers? They go home every day and on weekends right?

yep! campus is open on weekends because not everyone is able to/wants to go home every weekend, due to a lot of factors like distance, having a lot of work, home life, etc. the halls are obviously open all day (in case you were not aware, the halls are closed during some of the school day) with RCs in office noon to midnight, while the main building is still open 7am to 10pm. part of the main building (a wing) is closed off on weekends, and the irc (library) is not open. sodexo has different hours (brunch: 11am to 1pm, dinner: 4:45pm-6:30pm), and different food options (less selection in salad bar, waffle machine, breakfast and entree options, check https://www.imsa.edu/studentlife/weekly-menus for more info). teachers do not live on campus. some teachers come to school early or stay later to help students and grade work, but other teachers come to school right before their first class starts and/or go home as soon as their last class ends. if you want to meet with a teacher outside of class, email them or talk to them at the end of class. teachers participate in a studco program called halls-to-teachers, so you may see them is some residential activities as well.

There's no time you have to be back, but the RCs do need to know when. If you're coming back Monday morning, let them know when you check out for the weekend. I'd say before 10 because it's before curfew check is nicer.

Can we take one of the AP Computer Science exams from Computer Science Principles?

Unfortunately, the sophomore computer science class will not be adequate for AP Computer Science A. The sophomore class, Computer Science Inquiry, teaches Python and HTML, while the AP courses uses Java.

How do you access IMSA's Powerschool on your phone? I entered the District code, QHKX, but when I type in my username and password that I use online (where it works), it doesn't work. Is it just mine? Am I doing something wrong?

To use the PowerSchool app, I used my parents username and password, and it works just fine.

yes you do need to buy a specific dress for band, unless you already have one that looks very much like it, which is unlikely. from what i remember i believe it was around $55, give or take ten bucks. after you start school, the band teacher will go over how to order it online from the company she wants them from. the only way you could pay with cash is if one of you classmates ordered the dress online for you and you pay them back. the teacher will give you all the information you need after school starts.

Are there cuts for the girls' bball team? How are the practices and tryouts?

Can we do outside ensembles (choir, orchestra, band) on the weekends?

Ya I did local symphony every Sunday and I know a bunch of other people who do it, so it is definetly manageable, you'll just have less time spent at home.

So where do we leave our gym uniform?

there is no gym uniform provided - you just wear whatever athletic clothing and shoes you want to/feel comfortable in. there is a locker room accessible during the day and after school (if you want to use the fitness center and have a change of clothes then too). the lockers are big enough to fit shoes and clothes in. if you want your locker locked, make sure to bring a lock, as there is no built-in lock, and a lock will not be provided for you.
