Thoughts on PokemonGo?
Apologies for not replying to this sooner. I legitimately never got the email, and haven't logged into Ask FM for... 9 months...
To answer your question, I haven't played Go, not because I hate the idea for the game, far from it as I really like the idea of augmented reality games. I have a living dex in the main games, I don't need any pokemon until Vivillon from Kalos start coming to the game.
What is the worst excuse you've ever heard?
Not sure, it kinda depends on what the context for the excuse is. Overall, its mostly idiot assholes spouting a lie as a joke to avpoid doing research. Kinda comes off as them saying "The dog ate my homework".
So you're doing Ghostbusters 2016 right?
Yes. I have plans to review Ghostbusters 2016. However, like every other movie review, I'm waiting for a DVD/ Blu-Ray release. In this case, its to let the extreme views on both sides calm down, and more importantly, it lets me be more thorough in my review. The pause button is my friend.
What would you do if you saw your friends or family getting harassment and abuse?
While I do trust that they can handle it, as most, if not all my friends, those who I know personally, have dealt with some form of harassment in some way. If I did see it, or I learned of it, no matter who it was I'd stand up for them, stand with them against it. This is even stronger for those who help create content for Mediaholics. If I learned that Marissa, CJ, Jeremy or anyone else currently helping, or comes on later who start getting attacks for whatever reason, and I do mean actual, genuine attacks, then I'd stand with them. Why? Because it's the right thing to do.
Trump or feeling the Bern?
I honestly couldn't care at this point. I am sick of the whole thing making international news at times, and right now I'm under the belief that whoever wins, we all loose.
Black Wargreymon vs Dynasmon, which would should I pick?
Uh, I'm aware of the Digimon, but I have no idea what you're referring to off the top of my head so I'll say Dynasmon for design.
1. What's with your location? That's stupid. 2. What amiibo do you have?
For the first question, its a carry over from when I was working on Ace Attorney: Turnabout Smash. The setting of the prologue chapter was what I called the Battlefield Arena, turning Battlefield from Super Smash Brothers into something akin to an Olympic Stadium.
For the second one: King Dedede, Kirby, Reese, Shovel Knight, Mii Swordsman, Lucina, Marth, Digby, Isabelle, Sonic, Link, Mewtwo, Rosalina and Luma, Robbin, Zelda, 8-Bit Mario with new colours, Meta Knight, Gannondorf, Lucario, Mii Gunner, Mii Brawler, Greninja, Cyrus, Tom Nook, Lottie, DJ KK, Mable, Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, Inkling Squid and Gold Mario. However I do have plans to get Mega Man, Pac Man, Smash Mario, Blathers, Celeste, Ike, Shiek, Toon Link and Shulk soon. I've also got the Goldie, Rosie and Stitches cards.
(And yes, all those Smash amiibo, and Gold Mario, are at level 50, the Splatoon challenges haven't been done, and Isabelle and Digby are max level in Animal Crossing: Amiibo festival).
Wargreymon vs charizard mega x who would win?
Wargreymon. Even when they announced that Death Battle I knew who would win, I knew about Wargreymon's dramon killer claws. Mega Charizard Y would win, as it wouldn't have that weakness, but not Mega Charizard X.
What do you think about the DOAX3 scandal?
When I didn't even know it was a thing, that should tell you how little I care about it. But after doing some research:
My views on the game are similar to what they were for the TGS, I'm still wondering why its a thing and why its using the technology that it is. But those kinds of games aren't my thing so even if it was being released here, I probably wouldn't get it.
As for the "scandal" part. We have "A company with a PR manager with a questionable strategy and strange departments for a games retailer, some former games critics boycotting the store" and a bunch of other things that can probably fit into that first one. Unlike many people online, I'm not going to get up in arms about it. "Every form of entertainment deserves to exist, you have the choice about buying it or not", something I follow to an extent. Was the game going to be for everyone? We live in such a PC world that, sadly, people saying hi or trying to do their jobs offend people, so a game about girls in bikini's playing beach games was never going to be for everyone. I guarantee you this game was going to get some controversy in some way, shape, or form no matter what. Again, these are from similar people who wanted a female link and now call her transphobic (not the same as a fyi). To phrase it as they did was dumb on the retailer's side, who sells what can be describes as Japanese soft core porn games, the news on it wrote stories as click bait to an extent, which when you look deeper is kinda funny when you look at their phrasing, and why is it a problem?
Why don't you do something like a number score? Why do you not have something like a 3.5 out of 5 starts, 6/10 or 60%?
The reason being is because people tend to use that as the sole measure of a game and not the review itself. We live in a world where people believe anything lower then an 8/10 isn't worth watching, reading or playing. To me, that's stupid. I'd rather let the review speak for itself and in the long term, its more of a pain then its worth because there's a chance people will compare scores for games and use that to debunk you, remember the 7.8 Too much water memes?
What is the hardest thing to do when you're writing reviews?
Made up language. For franchises like BIONICLE, trying to structure a review that is as "new reader friendly" when dealing with words like Kanohi, Ignika, Inika, Piraka, Baraki, Toa, Makuta ect. When writing reviews, I actually send some to close friends of mine, just to do a check if I feel it needs it. I sent the latest one out, the Ignition and Battle for Karda Nui review to a friend of mine, asking them "Read this, tell me where I lose you". The second word, Kanohi. Now I'm all for new language used in mediums, I really am. But to write and critique the new words it becomes a pain.
As a reviewer yourself, what do you think of Anita Sarkeesian reviewing the new Assassin's Creed and what are your thoughts on the game?
That's a name I never thought I'd see here.
I'll start with the shorter answer, to be honest, I've never played the Assassin's Creed games, I've been meaning to as I hear lots of praise for it (depending on the entry). As for Syndicate, I'm glad I'm not hearing nearly as many reports of bugs as what Unity got, so at least Ubisoft learned (I hope).
Before I go into the question, I will say this. I have not watched a lot of Anita's videos. As a critic, I find her way of speaking in the videos to be bland, dry and boring. if I'm watching a video on Youtube, I'd rather the person or people working on the video to have interesting personalities, to show that they are having fun with the video because if they're having fun, then I am too, it's what I'm trying to do with my own video content, weather I'm succeeding or not is up to interpretation (again, feedback welcomed). On top of that, I felt that what I have seen of her content is skewered, that what truth is in the videos at times is buried in her and the bloke who works on the videos (I don't know his name and honestly, nor do I care) believe to be the truth. I brought this up a while ago but a lot of early games had to use visuals to differentiate one character from another, take for example Mrs. Pac Man. How do you make one yellow circle look like a woman in comparison to another yellow circle? The designers gave her a bow, which was probably all they could do considering the limitations of the hardware at the time. If this is cause for her claiming I'm harassing her, as I have herd the stories, the fine, whatever, I have better things to do with my day then listening to her followers attack me, I get enough of that from people who do genuinely hate me.
For her to be doing reviews now leads me to believe that she's trying to stay current, that what has worked before is no longer working for her. Am I going to stop her from trying? No, why should I? Again, I have better things to do, I have my own content to write. If I can offer her any advice, its to review the game, not the characters. It's fine to address them, it's what I do, but they shouldn't be the focus if you can help it. Am I guilty of this? Probably, I think the closest I've come is the review of The Legend of Korra, but I still put in the effort to cover as much as I can on what I'm reviewing.
Let her try reviewing, though as I said before, I'd rather look at reviews where i see the creators having fun with it. Even I still have fun writing these reviews, even if what I'm reviewing is a piece of shit like Transformers: Age of Extinction.
What is it with you and Strawpolls?
I'm trying to increase viewer involvement for the site, and those polls seem to be a good way to do it. I would use Blogger's inbuilt poll, but it doesn't show the text and I can't figure out a way to do it. The Strawpolls are also to big in terms of size to embed into the site directly, so I use links. If there's a better way to do this, I'm all ears.
Flashback Friday! PAP from the summer?
Would you rather never have internet access again or never be allowed board an airplane again?
Airplane, mainly because there are other ways to travel the globe... Much slower, but still possible.
If you have Twilight Princess already, why not just review the version you have?
A few reasons, the first being how I handle games. If there is a newer version available, I will try to review that version as chances are, that's the version people will get. Using Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask as examples, while yes there are ports of both avaliable on either the Wii or WiiU eshop, they are the N64 versions, and what will people be more likely to get, the n64 version, the eshop ports, or the 3DS versions? Especially when at the time, Ocarina of Time wasn't on the WiiU eshop and I think Majora's Mask still isn't.
The second being how I'm choosing to handle Zelda games, I'm pairing them. If I'm reviewing Zelda 1, then the next review is going to be Zelda II, if its A Link to the Past, then the next one is A Link Between Words, Phantom Hour Glass, then its Spirit Tracks, you get the pattern. With Twilight Princess, I want it to be three games, Wind Waker, which I currently don't own a copy of, though I do intend to get it hopefully this Boxing Day sale at the latest, Twilight Princess then Skyward Sword. All three of them are long games and they take time to play, it's why I keep a schedule for reviews, when I'm writing reviews of film and TV shows, it's because I've got a review of a game being worked on behind the scenes. I will get to them as I have things to say about both Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, but I need time to do the three games justice.
Will you review Twilight Princess HD if it is a thing?
Of course. I do actually have the Wii version of Twilight Princess which I do intend to review along side Skyward Sword like what I did with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, so even if it turns out to be fake, I can still review it. I hope they do what they did with Wind Waker HD, as there are a lot of things I think could be improved in Twilight Princess, mainly the Tutorial and Hyrule Field.
What's the one thing you have a hard time remembering to do?
Adding in the # for the site, mainly for Tumblr and Youtube videos, I've gotten better with the reviews site itself.
You can only hear one song for the rest of your life. Bohemian Rhapsody or Ring of Fire?
Honestly, because I don't recall the names of either of them, as I remember music by the music itself, not the names, so I'm going to say neither.
Why don't you add more political aspects to your reviews? It sounds like you have a lot to say. Are you afraid of hate?
No I'm not, if I was afraid of hate, I wouldn't be writing at all.
The reason I don't add political commentary into reviews are for two reasons. The first being I just don't care enough about politics to do it, politics never interested me honestly. The other main reason is that, to me, not everything needs it. Korra and the last comic review, Megatron's Origins and Autocracy, had political aspects to them, obvious ones, so to talk about political views makes sense when its addressing the views in them. Tomorrow's review is Equestria Girls: Friendship Games. That doesn't need political commentary, there's no point. The only political thing that I could really address is the lack of prominent, useful male characters in the show and the films, but to me, my answer is this. "IT IS A SHOW AIMED AT YOUNG GIRLS, AT AN AGE BRACKET WHERE GIRLS SEE BOYS AS DISGUSTING AND BOYS SEE GIRLS AS ALIENS. WHO CARES?" I've seen shows that have handled the opposite gender far, FAR worse then this. If the few male characters are still likable, that's good enough for me. If I wanted to watch a show with prominent male characters, I've got other things to watch. There are plenty of other people who will throw in political views into everything, who will demand things be changed because of those views. To me, that's not a way to live, I'd rather review it for what it is, not what political views I'd want it to have.
Why do you do what you do?
There are multiple parts to that, so I'll explain as much as I can.
Why do I cover so much? Well, its for a few reasons. To most, it would look like I cover so much for click bait, that I'm looking for something that sticks, that works. While that is true to a certain extent, to me, I'm still looking for my style, what separates me from everyone else, the actual reason is to experiment. I started the reviews site with the dream of it succeeding, but with the goal of experimenting. To me, the site is and always will be an excuse to try new things, look at things I wouldn't normally look at, and to shine a new light on things I haven't seen since I was a child. It's thanks to the reviews site that I've seen, heard, read and played things like K-On, the fourth season of Generation 1 Transformers, Pokemon Zeta, Assault on Arkham, My Little Pony: Friendship is magic and its three films, Turnabout Musical, Overclocked Remix, Harmony of Heroes, the Pikmin Shorts, Transformers Prime, RiD 2015, Thunderbirds are Go, The Batman, Hulk, Next Avengers, Madoka Magika, Animaniacs, Kid Icarus Uprising, Steven Universe, Log Horizon, Gravity Falls, Star and the forces of evil, Majora's Mask, Adventure Time, Blackest Night, Big Hero Six, Nightmare Rarity, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Akame ga Kill, The Legend of Korra, Megatron's Origins and Autocracy. The site has also given me reasons to go back to things I enjoyed when I was younger, but to save this from being a promo for what I've done, assume any review I hadn't listed here is in that category depending on age.
The reason I keep going though, even though I get hate, I get what some would call abuse, why I continue to keep pumping out more and more content which was somehow possible considering my schedule. Well, its because even though I don't hear it a lot, I have had people say they enjoy the content. And even though most remain silent, I doubt I'm getting nothing but bots if Blogger's analytic s have anything to say about it so I must be doing something right. I started 2015 with just over 4000 pageviews since launch, with a goal of 10,000 since launch. I've had to double that goal and now I've succeeded it. Words genuinely fail me when I see that number. Most would call me pathetic when I say that seeing that number go up motivates me, but its not because of the number, its because to me, that means that people do like what they see, that there are people who come back to see more. What motivates me to keep going is them, because if people enjoy my content (preferably for reasons other then to laugh at me), then I'll gladly keep making more.
Those are why I do this, why I write.
What's something that can always make you feel better?
It's hard to say for me honestly. It depends on the situation
If you were a scientist, what would you invent?
Well, something I designed several years ago was a car that runs off of an electrical engine and can get power from the wind while the car is in motion.
Why aren't you doing anything for Halloween in terms of avatars and name?
Two main reasons
1. I'm lazy...
2. I don't have any ideas for it. Halloween isn't really a thing here (unless you believe the retailers), and its actually because of the reviews site that I go out of my way to try and do something for it, like the secret project I'm working on. The only idea I have is a Terrorcon, but... eh? That's a thing for another day as I have a bit to say on Beastformers.
Who do you think should be the next president?
I honestly haven't been paying attention to the US election, I barely pay attention to the Australian elections.
