I think you should just wait for your inpiration to come.
Maybe try to show more of the past in one flashback, you don't have to always jump back to present and then back to past. For example, when he'll be with his psychologist you can bring one flashback and show more of his past in just that one, like he'd be telling her the story of that current past. And in a quiet moment of that mentioned flashback you'd just use his voice without getting back to present. just an absurd example: "That was the moment I knew I'm falling in love with her". bum and you show the next day of that current past.
