If Toonami for had been around past 2008 do you think shows like Young Justice, Sym-Bionic Titan would have done better
Eh hard to say.
Back about a decade ago, a voice actress accidentally "leaked" on her site that Buso Renkin would be coming to Adult Swim. This never occurred. Did something fall through or was she way off-base?
I never heard anything any of this so I have no idea, sorry!
I'm wondering if you have any opinion at all on this sudden "Bowsette" craze
I’m not a fan of Smash Bros and I’ve never understood the insane excitement around those games, but Bowsette is just darn adorable and I love her.
Surviving grief and my daughter going off to college. I’ve got a lot of wonderful projects in various stages but honestly, I’m exhausted right now.
Do you listen to JID. He’s a good Atlanta rapper signed to Dreamville
Oh for sure. Love JID.
Did you like kamikaze?
Not really, no. I haven’t liked Eminem since his second album tbh. Once he started producing a lot of his own stuff and using his more “angry man” voice, I lost interest. I just don’t like the way the music sounds. 🤷🏻♂️
I think, like most Netflix shows, it’s highly marginal.
Did you have any plans to aired Samurai Champloo, Kill la Kill or Outlaw Star to aired tonight at 12:00 AM (ET/PT) to replaced "Pop Team Epic" since it suffered from low ratings. Also, can you change the final episode date from Sep 22 to Sep 30 of that year because of it.
Uhhhhhhh
What are your honest thoughts on The Last Jedi, and separate from that, what are your thoughts on the backlash it's created that even almost a year later is still going on? Have you read any of the criticism and think it's justified or maybe even agree with it? Very curious to know how you feel.
Sure. I’ll start by saying I really enjoyed The Last Jedi. I liked Luke’s arc, and between the hyperspace kamikaze scene and Luke’s face off with Ben Solo, it has at least two legit great scenes. On the down side, Canto Bight was an effects addled, goofy and overlong section that still feels like it should have been better, and I wasn’t convinced we saw Rey go through enough growth to bring her to where she seemed to be at the end of the film. I’m not one of the people who think ITS THE BEST SW FILM SINCE EMPIRE (that’s Rogue One), and I’m not one of the people who are saying “ROSE TICO KILLED SW” either. How I feel about the collective fan freak out is, 90% of it are idiots who shouldn’t be paid attention to. They give SW fans a bad name and are generally an embarrassment to anyone like me who’s been seeing these movies since day one in the theater, and who likes the idea of them changing with the times. Unfortunately, those freak outs resulted in an equally hysterical pushback where there was an attempt to canonize the film as the most amazing SW evar. It’s neither. It’s a pretty good SW film that does right by Luke, has some cool scenes, and left me excited to see what happens next. It’s better than The Force Awakens in some ways, worse in others. I love SW more than most people you know, and I’m just happy we are still seeing generally well made SW films by people who clearly appreciate George’s world. But none of it is worth yelling at strangers over the internet about!!
Have you ever seen this video? https://youtu.be/-Et4vu4lpPI
One of my absolute fav video essays, on the history of Toonami, that always makes me tear up.
Also just wanted to say thank you for everything! Everything you do and help create makes my life better 💖
Yup I’ve seen it! It’s great!
How do you come to terms with aging?
I don’t give a shit about getting older. Other than the physical aspect of my body aging, I don’t really feel the need to “come to terms” with it.
Which of the two FLCL seasons did you have the most involvement in?
Even split.
As a TV executive, isn't you having a Netflix subscription contributing to the downfall of television?
Lol no. I have a cable subscription and I watch plenty of stuff “live” or DVRed. But the idea is that Netflix is one of many choices available to the consumer. The onus is on TV networks to continue making interesting content that is worth people checking out, so that Netflix doesn’t become the only way to see things. And right now, all of the best shows I can name on TV are almost 100% network shows.
What’s your honest opinion on the current state of the video game market/ Industry
Seems like games are doing just fine to me, there’s more systems and more great games and reissues available than ever. The industry is pretty healthy. There’s some work to be done (as in every type of media) in terms of making more games by and for all of the different types of people in the world. I hope things continue trending towards entertainment that is made by, and reflects the experiences of, all types of people!
What are some of the shows you tried to get the right to for Toonami back in the day that you most regret not being able to air on Toonami due to someone outbidding you guys or some other weird legal reasons?
The Vision Of Escaflowne Sailor Moon Crystal Slayers Magic Knight Rayearth Initial D Excel Saga Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water Martian Successor Nadesico Turn A Gundam...just to name some I can talk about. There are a lot of other, more recent ones too.
