Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, Funimation Now, et al, enough for FUNimation, Sentai, Viz, and Aniplex to stop offering shows to you and your viewers leaving you en mass to watch them instead. Maybe you aren't as innovative as you think you are.

Those are all content platforms, not programming blocks. “Adult Swim” is the platform. “Toonami” is a block...
Yes, there’s more competition than ever, and we are still doing just fine. We’ve never been lazy, and we never will take anything for granted. We’ll keep working hard doing our best with whatever our network chooses to provide, and it will last as long as it lasts, which all anyone can ask, right?😘

Toonami was really innovative when it first came out, not so much now. Any plans to continue innovating with the product?

First, show me another TV block that airs new, unusual anime alongside great hits and classics, plays music videos, experimental animated shorts, uses cutting edge, unknown artists for music, and makes original CGI adventures for the hosts, and game reviews, PLUS does stuff like our April Fools stunt, and produces original series on top of all of that. Then I might agree we aren’t still innovating!

Would you say this years April fools joke was a success?

Most people seemed to dig it. I’m pleasantly surprised by the mostly positive reception to the first ep of FLCL: Alternative, which is a bit different from the vibe of the original FLCL and FLCL Progressive, too. Of course, you can see how mad people were about the subs and the schedule change-up too, which illustrates why we don’t do things like this usually.

Was there any extra charge to air the anime in Japanese?

No, but since we technically don’t have the rights to the sub versions we had to reach out to each distributor and see if they were willing to work with us or if the sub had an exclusivity deal with another partner. It was super complicated actually!

Will we be seeing the episode of jojo we saw in Japanese in English this week?

Yes. We will be re-airing our normal lineup next week dubbed, as usual. All the episodes that ran in Japanese will re-run (minus FLCL and Mindgame!).

What are your thoughts on Lil Xan saying Tupac is "boring"?

I don’t get what the fuss is about. I don’t care for Lil Xan but who gives a shit if he likes old music? Every rock band isn’t asked what old bands they like. It’s a weird thing in hip hop and it’s dumb. I love Pac but his music is old and it’s not going to necessarily appeal to a young kid.

Netflix got groundbreaking new shows from Production IG like B the Beginning and Neo Yokio and they got more coming, but all you guys can get from them is this blatant cash grab moeshit FLCL sequel nobody wanted? This is why everyone's leaving you en mass for streaming and fansubs. Ready to give up?

I’m gonna answer this one just because the idea of FLCL being a “cash grab” is wonderful. Two six episode mini series, such a cash cow!!! Bring us DA CASH, baby! Adult Swim, strictly in it for DA CASH! 😂
Look, I really hope people like what we’ve made and if they don’t, that’s okay too. No need to be mad at strangers on the internet about it either way! There’s a wonderful smorgasbord of amazing anime out there for folks of all tastes. Go watch whatever makes you happy!

Why hasn't Toonami aired SWAT Kats at all? It was never on the block in the late 90s, and it not being there now is baffling, considering it's action. Are there legal issues? Because Boomerang aired the show with no problems...

We never had the rights back in the day and by the time they were available, it was too old. Sorry.

Aw man I do not like $uicideboy$ that is some 2011 SALEM/Elite Gymnastics later Spooky appropriated lost sad-boy phony child nihilism to me but if you like them I have to assume I’m somehow wrong.

Lolllll I’m crazy about em. Full disclosure, I’m a massive Three Six Mafia fan so their updating of the Three Six sound is super exciting to me. Also they have a huge catalogue, I’d recommend bouncing around and seeing if any of it sticks...

Yoooo! I’m not a fan of XXXtentacion, but re: grindcore vocals in rap, I’d recommend $uicideboy$, who make amazing Three Six Mafia meets goth meets grindcore rap, as well as Ghostemane, who makes NIN influenced hip hop, or even Sadistik.
And I think you have a point about “SoundCloud rap” and rap’s ongoing war between “old shit” and “new shit” and how a lot of great stuff gets lost in the middle...

Why do most people who watch anime act elitist?

Well, I wouldn’t say “most” people who watch anime are elitist. I would say a small but very vocal minority are, and even then, only in the safe confines of online interaction.
I’ve never had a negative interaction with an anime fan at a con, or in person, ever. And I know there are some anime fans who HATE me. :).
Why does the type of fan you’re talking about behave the way they do, though? I think it’s insecurity. Anime is such a vast and deep well of culture, with the fandom having its own set of constantly changing in-jokes and references, it can be easy to feel superior to a newcomer, or less ardent fan, if you’re inclined to feel that way.
I think those types of “fans” are using anime to give themselves an identity, and they sometimes feel threatened at the idea that this thing that makes them special is also there for others to take part in.
It’s sad and self-destructive. However, I’ve noticed that as people get older and more secure in themselves, they will sometimes regret elitist behavior. I hope anyone who wastes time hating on new fans will eventually see the futility of that POV.... Anime becoming more popular and beloved only helps anime as a whole!

At what age, do you think it's time to get a job?

I had a paper route at 12, my first real job at 14. I think kids should get used to working young, even though I wish they didn’t have to. But that’s the reality.

You probably really love to travel?

I don't. I love seeing new things, but I love my family and friends more, I'm a definite homebody. I have to travel for work a lot, so maybe if I didn't, I would feel differently.
