Ask @KaitlinObscura:

what's the point of shooting film it looks like digital except that digital is prettier.

It's all subjective. I like film because I enjoy the way it looks and I enjoy the process of it. Film has taught me how a camera works and has taught me patience and better composition. There are Photoshop actions that people use to make their digital work resemble film. I think that too many people think of film as a predecessor to digital when in reality, they are two completely different types of art mediums. I like to use both.

what do you suggest for someone who is younger who wants to do photography?

Keep taking photos! If you want to do journalism, take photos of current news and events and submit your best ones to publications as soon as possible. Sometimes that works and if it does, it's great for exposure. If you'd like to do editorial style fashion or lifestyle, practice on your family and friends. Have them tell their friends and eventually you will build a clientele list. It takes time and effort, a lot of effort. The earlier you start the better!

what type of camera do you use? do you ever use a point and shoot kind?

I use a few different types usually. My main digital is a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-105 L lens. As for film, I usually use a Canon AE-1 with a 50mm or 28mm lens but lately I've been using a Canon A-1. I use Fuji Superia and Kodak Portra (both 400iso) for film. And no, I never use a point and shoot. I think the last point and shoot I owned was an Olympus something or other. It was blue.
