So why do you watch anime?
Anime offers so many different things that live-action shows simply can't deliver on. I could never imagine something like Aria or The Tatami Galaxy being made into a live action series and being as masterfully crafted as their anime counterparts are. Anime is also significantly different cartoons from the West which are almost always comedies or are aimed at younger audiences. I consider myself to have become a devout watcher of anime when I completed Clannad back in late April/ early May of 2013. That's because Clannad was the first show to ever move me on such an emotional level. Since then I've felt a similar experience multiple times (Little Busters!, Aria, Usagi Drop, Full Moon, Ping Pong, Hunter x Hunter etc., etc.,etc.) You just won't see thrillers like Kaiji, dramas like Your Lie in April, sci-fi action shows like Ghost in the Shell, mind fucks like Serial Experiments Lain, slice of life comedies like Haruhi, mecha shows like Evangelion or Bokurano, or whatever the hell you'd consider the Tatami Galaxy to be outside of anime. Anime isn't scared to go wherever it feels like, and it's not bound by trying to appeal to large demographics, so the show sells well (of course you see this here in the West, just not as often). Anime can go anywhere at anytime. Some of them have settings that I truly wish I could be in, characters I truly wish I could meet, circumstances that I would not mind being a part of despite the conflict. Anime has given me this feeling so many times whereas no show/ movie outside of anime whatever has ever given me this feeling.
