That's funny that you dislike Hiland's tone so much on that one clip - I thought it was one of the standouts of that clip. Question: Transcribing Barnyard Breakdown, did you find that he played mostly pick + fingers on the little double stops? Keep on rockin.
For me it was just too saturated. It seemed inappropriate, but that's a taste thing I guess!

I think Andy James is my favourite player. Just love his mastery of the fretboard (no one seems to comment on that?) and how he smashes it with brutal technique. Any other players that you recommend? I don't really find players like PG as interesting...

Apart from melodic minor are there any other times you'd use a different scale ascending to descending over the same chord? Excluding minor then pentatonic (as that's just skipping notes), I mean clashing scales like phrygian/lydian? Could you play an example?

As you know, Paul Gilbert's solo stuff is very different to the crazy heavy metal shreddyness that was Racer X and props to him for releasing what he wants to, but do you know of other artists (preferably bands) that had that same craziness and that level of shred awesomeness? Apart from Cacophony!
