Ah just to add, for today are all religious so this is some sort of religious disagreement lol. silly tbh
Almost as silly as religion. Ammirite?
Guthrie claims he never did the whole metronome practice thing ... how the fuck did he developed his technique? I remember reading (in one of the Creative Guitar books I think) that he got most of his chops over a summer, when he was 16 or so ...
How much you re interested in/keen on physics buddy?
listen to much machine head? I think the solos in halo define for me good metal soloing
I loved machine head growing up! :)
Do you agree with Pat? Was this wrong of him to say? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-mjt1ypiF8 I think the Jazz community does need to stick together like the fusion community today! Instead of bringing each other down, we should all be trying to help each other out
I knew what that was before clicking on it ;)hahaLegend - it takes a lot to say what you think regardless of how others might take it ;)
hello teacher. what is fusion exactly? what are the most common chord changes and rhythmic ideas in fusion?
Fusion is the fusing of two musical styles. That could be anything. Indian classical music and rock is fusion. Jazz and folk is fusion. Blues and metal is (technically) fusion
Why are players like Kirk Hammett respected. I know he gets some schtick from people that know whats bad about his playing, but 90% of guitarists, 99% of metallica fans ... how can they not hear the humming bird vibrato, badly intonated bends, cliche note choice, poor finger tone in general?
because he wrote and played on Master of Puppets - Legend status solidified!
hey im new to theory, what chord is that cdim7 replacing, idk what a I chord is :(
I - chord one. ii-V-I - 2-5-1
how important is studying (how deep do I need to study) jazz in order to play fusion?
You don't need to at ALL... but it will certainly help add a flavor to your playing. There are many great fusion players who have (I assume) never studied jazz. Just look at Holdsworth!Just worry about your ears, learn to listen! :)
I prefer Jacek's tone for sure. They both sound pretty contrived to me though. I love Jakub's playing (he's one of my favorites at the moment), but here I couldn't help but keep thinking "yeah, cool, you know Lydian Dominant... we get it"Also, trading 4s at the start of a solo? It's like they got straight to the competitive part and missed the expressive part?Obviously both guys can play, but this feels more like two guys playing over a backing track who forgot there was a live band completely. You can see that neither of them knows what to do at 4:28 when their band drops back! Part of me wants to say "what was that all about?!" the drummer just decides to end their solos for them, which is pretty poor etiquette, but at the same time... if he didn't they'd probably still be playing now! haha
going to email for guitar lessons off you soon im so excited dude, aside from you teaching me stuff, would i be able to show you some of my compositions and get feedback? not sure what goes on in guitar lessons never had one
100%!I love checking out what my students are up to and am happy to help in any way I can!
Do you like Mark Levine Jazz Theory book?
Great book!
b6 against the 5th can be lovely sounding depending on how you voice it. Example, low to high E -
X X 10 12 9 11 X = Root, 5, b6, b3 - sounds great arpeggiated,, not quite as a chord, as the b6 and 5th are voiced a b2 apart, but for a chord there's this X 3 1 1 1 3 = Root, b3, b6, root, 5th
Of course, because you're arpeggiating it. That's not a chord, it's a melody. I'm not saying that scales with minor seconds don't work :P I also don't think that last voicing sounds nice at all. It's like a passable version, but passable isn't useable. My ear hears it and says... "oops, someone misfingered a m9 chord"
that sounds interesting, can you do a video response demoing that please!?!?
You don't need me to show you! Dm9 - G7#5 - Cdim7 - Cmaj7There you go
what is medium action and high action to you exactly? im thinking about raising my action too
It's about 2mm, but that's just me looking and not measuring :P
whats the latest bit of theory you discovered? polymodal chromaticism for me
It was probably something like substituting the I chord for a dim7 for a deceptive resolution
Why does minor 6 chord have a major 6th? D minor 6 = D F A B?? What?.. If I'm playing in say A minor, and I want to go to D minor 6, it is a nice chord change if the 6th of the D minor 6 is a flat 6, but if the 6th of the D minor is major, it sounds "off" and doesn't work with the A minor key.
Because that's the naming convention :PWhen you add a b6 to a chord it clashes with the 5th and doesn't sound at rest. If you omit the 5th then you have a m#5 which is actually just a 1st inversion major triad. As for your chord change, isn't that all opinion? I don't like the sound of Am - Dmaddb6. The Dm would have a Bb which is the b9 in the key... sounds awful to me.
is the studio you're recording at in scotland or UK? what is the studio?
Scotland is in the UK :P
Dude could you plug some knowledge on what this chord prog is? hauntingly beautiful i just dont know wtf it is, im still kinda new to chords beyond basic triad shapes, is one of them a major 7 by any chance? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riRHApRO9Nw 7:35 to 8:00. thanks in advance
are there any areas of theory you are yet to learn?
