Great player, and interesting factoid... he played guitar on Beyond Two Souls! lol
Do you like the flinstones:D?
I've not watched the Flintstones in years!
Thoughts on reb beach?
Aside from his old video and a bit of Winger, my only real experience of Reb is in Whitesnake, and while he kicks ass there... he lives in Doug's shadow a touch! haha
Hello! Any tips to improve the fretboard knowledge? I wanna have a fretboard "transparency" to create music with scales/arpeggios not only patterns and prelearned licks. Could you tell me a "path" to follow? I know it takes lots years of practice. Thanks in advance! You rock!
Well obviously you want to go herehttp://igg.me/at/HellcatMollyand have a skype lesson!hahahahaBut more seriously, it's a case of having a system and sticking to it. Explore it, challenge yourself. Come up with lots of tests and exercises. Can you play F#m7b5 - B7b9 - EmMaj7 at the 7th fret? How about at the 10th? etc
Hey levi, bit of a weird question. What would you consider is the point of a guitar solo and when you make one, does emotional context or or ripping licks have priority. Cheers dude, you are definately one of the best all roumd players in the uk at the momemt. Cant wait for the album
Well, that last part is a massive compliment! hahaFor me it's all about taking the song somewhere. I like to do something new, kick it up a gear or pull it back. I don't like to just throw a solo in where I couldn't be bothered to write lyrics or just because I want to show off. When it comes to technique/showing off in a solo, I do it, but the rule is that it should never be the bulk of a solo, it's the icing on the cake. I do like to try and make sure every solo has a "how the hell did he do that?!" moment, but ideally I want you to be able to sing most of the solo because that's what it is to me, an instrumental statement, I'm trying to talk through the guitar.here's an examplehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UwXoYoaTC8When the solo kicks off (0:18) we have a strong melody, something you can sing. I hit the b5 (0:23) to really grab the ear then I've got a fast ascending lick. At 0:27 I'm ripping 5s against 4 while descending the pentatonic scale, that's a texture thing the key (again) is that it's a phrase that ends with a statement at 0:32). Then we've got the "how the hell did he do that?" lick but again, it ends with a super controlled exit at 0:37, a tone bend (R to 9) then a further bend (9 - b3) and then a stupidly wide vibrato on the final noe so I cut through! If you dig it, please check out my album fund here where I'll try to keep it about the melody, the song, and the story!http://igg.me/at/HellcatMolly
It's a hard place to work, it's a scary place to work.I'm crowd funding my album because I don't have the sort of money I need to make the album I want to make and when I know it's an artistic project and not a vanity project (ie. I'll NEVER make back the cost of making the album) this seemed like the only option. With that being said, I still wouldn't want to go the traditional route. I could make an album and sort a distro deal with a label... and give up a huge share of any chance of covering my costs. I could put it ou on a label, spotify, youtube etc and earn between £0 per play (Spotify) and a few pounds per purchase on a label.... or I could go it alone and ask for your support and make £10 on every album sold and you guys (who allow it to happen) can feel good knowing that your money is going in my pocket and helping me live/support a family. Not on champagne for some label boss.I couldn't be happier with how things have turned out, and if you want to support it, please check out the following link!http://igg.me/at/HellcatMolly
Hardest solo or song you have ever played? ( hardest for you)
Anything that wasn't mine. Learning what comes naturally to someone else is ALWAYS hard work!
would you know if guthrie uses the deep switch on his chorus? :D
I don't even know what chorus he's using currently
75% there! we love you levi!
Yey! So come on.... who threw down that £150?
I know you are a real big fan of your vibrato, but that is the one thing I don't like about your playing. Kind of sounds uncontrolled and inconsistent to my ears
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UwXoYoaTC8It's as controlled as it gets. I'm a student of Martin Goulding, and BOY did he make me practice it! Before then it was uncontrolled... but he was hard on me.Bend to pitch.... hold to establish... release and bend to pitch 3 times... slide off....If anything it's TOO controlled. But I think of it like the vibrato of an opera singer, it cuts straight through the mix and grabs you.Just listen to the vibrato at 1:20 and you'll hear the school I'm from!https://youtu.be/2nmlpzVJ7cI?t=1m7s
I know you're selling your dream theater album because you said in your answer to the erotomania question ;) so not that creepy I just follow your ask fm a lot :P
I am getting ready to tackle the arpeggio section on Propulsion Pt's 1&2....... can i see you play it so i can assure myself that us humans can really do it?... Richie doesn't count! lol!
How do you not annoy your neighbors when playing guitar? Are you in a house or apartment? If it's a house, congrats!! You've REALLY done well for yourself in this industry!! Can't wait for the album :-)
video response (lets say you were single and in school this one kid is bullied a lot you are quite popular but this girl had an obvious crush on you and wanted to go out with you oh its High school you a senior and her a sophomore and both with jobs yep at that age) what would you do ??????
