when you get to the planning stage, that mean you've already gone through the concept stage. You have an idea you like and you want to do it, so now you need to seriously look into how you'll do it and if you think it will be well received.

Yea there was. A puzzle game starring Toon Link. But it got killed part way through development because Nintendo's upper management thought no one would like it, so it got put into Mario 3D world as the captain Toad mini game. People ended up loving it so now it will just be a Captain Todd game.
