Ask @OnTheRadioWithJamesMurphy:

When you go to amusement parks, what do you like to do most?

Coming from a fairground family, I always look to make sure everything looks in tip top condition,
It's a bit like a busman's holiday for me. I think it's the because of my background that makes me want to see everything looking good. Unlike most people, the first thing I'll notice is flaking paint or lights not working (how sad is that?)
However, the thing I like to do most is eat and drink at a park!

What is one thing that many people don't know about you?

I've been partly deaf since I was born.
I can hear the lower and top end of sounds well, but struggle with the middle range, which consequently means that if I'm in a group of people I struggle to hear what's going on around me.
It means that sometimes I can appear aloof, as though I'm not really taking part in the conversation, when in actual fact I can't actually hear it properly because I can't pick up on the speaker's voice.
I have a hearing aid, but don't wear it as it picks up all the ambient sound and makes the problem even worse!

Okay,, what did you want to be when you grew up?

From the time I was about 10, I wanted to do radio. I loved to record the shows on my reel to reel tape recorder. However, I didn't know how to go about it and it wasn't until I was 49 that I got the opportunity. I did get involved in Hospital Radio, but ended up more involved in the running of the station. So I got there in the end!

Which celebrity would you like to meet?

I'm not a huge celebrity 'fan' type person. I don't tend to get overawed, as in my mind, they're only people. Although I would love to sit down and have a chat with James Taylor the singer/songwriter who comes across as a thoroughly nice man.
I was lucky enough to meet one of musical heroes, Lonnie Donegan just a few weeks before he passed away.
