Can we say that a belief isn't just a thought in the mind but something that takes over and controls the mind?

Agreed.
Although I think it's oversimplification but I can't describe it any better either.

How many deaths are required for the salvage , A salvation, you have been seeking...

Just one.

When I talk to you,
O my Lord when I do
I feel such a peace,
that puts my restless heart at ease
And when I speak thus so silently
I can feel your love ever so vibrantly
My Lord I can't help but wish to disappear
For this worldly burden, I can no more bear
My Lord this soul of mine burns without You
For it wants to go back, to when it only knew You
Ya Rabb, this Duniya gave me nothing but aberration
Ya Rabb, my heart still mourns Your separation
You are alone, though You have so many a creation
But my Lord I have only You, You alone are my salvation
Ya Rabb, You were, You are and always will be above
Everything that my soul knows of, and it only knows Your love 🕋

Is it better to carefully observe from the beginning or to reflect afterwards to understand what leads to what?

deeda_dahi’s Profile PhotoXalaam
Depends on the situation.
When learning something, you need to observe and then reflect to retain the knowledge.
When you're re-doing something, just need to observe and respond accordingly. And reflecting upon your response every now and then.
