Write a paragraph about ranch life in the 1930's? PLEASE
Okay well, i'm going to refer heavily to the novel 'Of mice and men' because.. we're studying it.. so here goes, just a quick one i prom:
Ranch life in the 1930's was particularly testing as at this was a point in history where Americans were going through the 'Great Depression', this meant that everything was in low supply and there were a huge amount of 'itinerant' workers. It was also a harsh environment as there was a distinct lack of medicine - hence the workers resort to using 'a slug of whisky' instead - the harshness of the environment is also portrayed through the discrimination against women (all the female characters in the novel are undeveloped or nameless) and against black people (Crooks is called 'nigger'). Living a life on a ranch in the 1930's was also very unjust, all the characters in the novel carry around 'lugers' and the answer to all their problems, is to resort to violence (Curley picks on Lennie for no particular reason and isn't refrained till later). Hope this helps a bit, bye xo
