What do you like most about Korra that you think make it a great show, one probably even better than the original Avatar the Last Airbender series?

For the same reason Zeta Gundam is better than Mobile Suit Gundam. It's more developed, in terms of themes and plot. It has more substance to its narrative, goes in more interesting directions than the previous show. Both are good, mind you, but Legend of Korra just feels a little more evolved.

When did the guy who runs toonami bash you?

Beats me. I don't even know if that even happened, but I vaguely recall something was said about something I said. I can't keep track of everything that goes on.

Do you plan on reviewing the Megazone 23 films, Ninji Scroll, Wicked City or the City Hunter films?

Definitely Megazone 23. Bennett the Sage reviewed the rest of that stuff and I don't feel it's necessary to review them when his reviews were good enough. Unless I feel particularly passionate (for good or bad) about something or get a lot of requests to do it, I like to stay away from the stuff that's been reviewed on his show.

You do know you will never be taken seriously as an anime fan as long as you keep harping on about commercialized crap like DBZ right?

That's a fucking stupid opinion. If anything, I'd garner MORE fans if I ONLY reviewed Dragon Ball material, since it's the most popular anime in North American BY FAR. But I generally don't review DB material anymore and only comment on it on Twitter and some boards. I review a wide variety of different things because anime is more than DB. Here's a little hint: Anime is all commercialized. FMA Is commercialized. LoGH is commercialized. Gundam is basically a toy commercial. I judge an anime on its own merits.

What type of fan are you trying to appeal to with your review videos? Surely not the recent anime fan. I doubt many current fans would even know about half the anime you review? Are you wanting to appeal to the old school anime fans?

I review older things because newer titles haven't been around enough to really prove their meddle. Who knows if anybody will care about Penguindrum or Terror in Resonance in five or six years?

I like how you support DBZ on Toonami even though the guy who runs Toonami publicly bashed you.

I support DBZ Kai on Toonami because it's a decent product and I want people to support accurate English dubs. I couldn't care less what anybody at Cartoon Network thinks about me. You have to learn to compartmentalize.

Why do you only use dubbed anime in your reviews and not subbed anime?

Subtitles are death in a review video. I want my reviews to be accessible to as many people as possible.

Last anime you bought?

Oof, it's been a while since I made a purchase. I guess technically it would be the Bubblegum Crisis Blu-Ray set that AnimEigo is taking forever to finish and send out.

Which voice for Rei Ayanami do you like better: Amanda Win-Lee(Let's say from the End of Evangelion, or whenever you think she's at her best), or Brina Plaencia?

Having a voice preference for Rei Ayanami feels kind of pointless. Are you a female? Can you do a whispery voice? Congratulations, you're a good Rei Ayanami. The character's substance comes from her actions, not from who plays her. I don't even get the big deal behind Megumi Hayashibara's Rei. She's a great voice actress, and a good singer, but Rei doesn't make good use of her talent. So my answer is: I don't really care.

Why do you like Monica Rial so much?

I just really enjoy her performances. Hyatt in Excel Saga, Bulma in Dragon Ball Z Kai, Ai in Shin-chan, Lyra/Dante in FMA... she rarely disappoints, even if people around her might (like in Penguindrum).

Which do you prefer? Sailor Moon or Sailor Moon Crystal?

Well, the original SM series had the benefit of Ikuhara's touch, and thus the characterization was stronger, but I do love how Crystal cuts to the point. It's hard to choose. I might give a slight edge to the original, though, because it was a bit more consistent, but I do enjoy Crystal, despite some of its art flaws.

Yeah its a shame that Bartender anime was never brought over here and dubbed.

It was a pretty good show, though hardly marketable.

Ever been in a real fight?

A real fight? I was in fights as a kid, but those were just kid scraps. Who am I going to fight with now? I rarely leave the house.

So what is the next planned video review? Are you reaping the rewards yet from doing it?

This week's review is on Tetsujin-28 (2004), the 26-episode remake of the anime based on the classic Mitsuteru Yokoyama manga that pioneered the giant robot genre. The 2004 series is helmed by a favorite anime director of mine, Yasuhiro Imagawa, director of Giant Robo, G Gundam, and Shin Mazinger. He also scripted the series based on the Bartender manga.

Did you see the Japanese dub of Dragonball Z first? Or the uncut Ocean dubbed films or the edited 96 ocean dub of the series?

The Ocean dub of the TV series (first two "seasons") in syndication, then the same on Toonami plus the TV airing of the first three movies (including the TV only version of Movie 3), then the uncut Ocean dubs of the movies on VHS tape, then Japanese fansubs, then the Funimation in-house dub on TV, then the "uncut" Funimation in-house dub on VHS tape and DVD, then the Japanese version of Kai, then the English version of Kai... and somewhere in all that, some of the French and Mexican versions, but just a few bits and pieces.

What made you come to admire the story and character of Dragonball so much? Because If I remember correctly you started watching the show as an adult while many saw it as a child on toonami. So your journey as a fan so much different then most.

Well, not really. I first watched it in syndication before it hit Cartoon Network, then on Toonami during the several re-airings of the first two "seasons" before Funimation went in-house with it. The reason I got into the Japanese version most was because during that time I saw a lot of circulating VHS fansubs (of varying subtitle quality) and read a lot of fan websites on a regular basis. I just liked that it was this weird, unique, exotic serialized action-adventure show where the characters didn't really learn valuable life lessons and wasn't necessarily just a toy advertisement (though there were toys). There are way better shows, even of its kind, but I love the colorful, likable characters and the big, operatic feel to it, even if it is cheesy and simplistic for the most part.

How many sites have you been banned from?

Well, I was banned from Comic Book Resources' forums for disliking Grant Morrison (not exaggerating, that is literally the reason), banned from Kanzenshuu for being too aggressive, I was banned for a month on Anime News Network a while back for talking about the high price of Aniplex releases in a thread about an Aniplex release about an article where the high price of Aniplex releases was mentioned, and then calling out the moderator for being a hypocrite about complaining about it... I was banned a couple of times from 4chan years ago, but I was just being a brat about that. When you get into the 4chan mindset it's tough to untangle yourself, which is why I normally stay away from there unless I'm looking for pictures.
