It is really situational.
Ideally, if you both can keep a level head and discuss it openly like adults, there is room for growth and understanding.
However you also have to keep in mind that they have also already violated your trust.

Is it bad to sleep with a lamp on?

Probably a bad idea. Might burn out the bulb, or the tungsten could send a surge to the shade causing fire and an incinerated death.
