just my two cents, but I don't understand the need to protest Bershire being added to the CS staff as an artist.
First, let it be known that I'm a bisexual panromatic girl whos only ever been in relationships with women, lives in Kansas aka the bible belt aka homophobia central cause ya'know Westboro, and is the black sheep amongst a family of republicans and christians. I've faced some homophobia many time in my life. But this, I just don't get.
Yeah, Berk may not be a supporter, and wouldn't even breed pixel couples as a JBD artist, but from what I see, if she does her job as an artist and doesn't directly effect you, then why the fuck should she not be hired? I get it doesnt feel nice to be told who you are is wrong, I see it all the time, but you're not going to change Berk's mind. This isn't to say that her opinion isn't a shitty one, but one that you will have absolutely no influence in. Accept that there'll be people who don't like you, they don't have to. Doesn't make it right, but they don't have to.
Also, not entirely sure how Tess hiring Berk = support of bigotry, as Tess has openly expressed her support for the LGBTQIA+ community. People have different opinions, some are wrong, but Berk drawing pixel pets isn't going to oppress you, she isn't going give you warnings for being gay. If Berk isn't waving a flag around CS saying "I HATE GAYS", then what are you doing? Jumping to conclusions is what I'm getting.
Assuming that just because someone who doesn't support gay marriage is hired to the CS team instantly means that the site will fall into the hands of bigotry is dumb. One person being added to draw doesn't mean your inbox is going to be flooded will "god hates fags". Quit fear mongering.
If Berk is kind, does her job, and doesn't let anything offensive slip out of her, then let her be.
I've learned over the past 5ish years that you aren't going to change someones mind. You can educate them, and show them that just because you're gay doesn't make you any different than the person standing next to you. It's June, sometime this month the Supreme Court will make a decision on whether or not gay marriage is to be legalized nationwide throughout the US, and it's believed that they will vote in favor. We're winning, we're getting there. What we need to focus on is what is happening around us, in our city or state. A children's site is not the place to protest, it isn't going to make a difference.
If you care about stoping bigotry, start with those around you, not someone you can't even see. Berk may have a hurtful opinion, but you being hateful isn't going to make anything easier. She hasn't said a damn word that's offensive or could harmfully influence kids.
If you feel hurt, then you need to realize that the world does not align with you, there are going to be shitty people. Understand that they will be on the wrong side of history and leave them in the dust, be above them, and don't let them get you you.
