Ellie is like myself in a lot of ways, and then again, she isn't; she's her own person. She and I do have a lot in common, but she is far cooler than I am. I've been building her character for a long time now (about 5 years) and the more time I spend with her, the more things about her I learn. Her voice is one of the strongest, probably stronger than Marcus's. (He's the one I'm still trying to learn more things about.)
Once I started asking her questions, she began talking and her character became more and more real. She isn't really inspired by or based on anyone I know in real life. She's fictional. But yes, if I had to guess, in a lot of ways, she's a reflection of myself, both who I was at her age, and also who I wanted to be.
Sometimes I take my characters shopping. I wanna know what they wear, what music they listen to, and all of that. Marcus and I will have to spend more time together. I know less about him than any of my other characters and he's always doing stuff on the page that surprises me.
