How many new houses will be in the new version of the game???

We are currently working on 3 new levels, with the hopes to add even more. One level is the remake of the original house with a slightly different layout and new areas to search for things in. The other two, are brand new levels with new things to "borrow" and unique challenges.

currently, in the game if you stand right at the door, you can escape right when the owner walks in/right before he walks in. are you guys gonna keep that feature??

Currently the prototype (the one free to play) has a number of things that you can do that we are hoping to change, such as leaving the house despite the owner being outside the door. So how you escape is going to be a little different in the new version.

Is there a name for the owners? Well you include things like them coming home with wife/husband, and/or children? or maybe even a drunker coming home with a bunch of friends, haha. also, will the owners react to their house being trashed up if you mess about?

The owner does have name...
Our current aim with levels is to keep owners and other characters appearances the same, but their behaviour slightly different every time you play. This keeps some level of predictability within the game making it a little easier for players. This isn't to say that it won't be challenging.
And yes, owners and other characters will respond to the mess you make around the house.

Are you going to edit the free version at all? Also are there any hidden features in the free version that result in either a jumpscare or relate to a storyline? How does the Owner's programming work for e.g does have a 'suspicious' and 'not-suspicious' mode and is he outside the door always?

We are currently focusing on developing the new version, along with finding a means to help fund The Very Organized Thief. So there are no plans currently to update the free version.
The game has no programmed jump scares. A lot of the jump scares people are experiencing are simply "wrong place, right time".
As for the owner. The owner literally doesn't know anything about you until he see's you. When he arrives home, he will investigate any noise he might hear (i.e footsteps and doors) or lights he might see (i.e your torch). Until then, he's just wandering around the house. He also has a hard time seeing in the dark, which is why he turns most of the lights on. He will also come home earlier if you set the alarm off.

Will you try to get this game onto steam and make it free until you add more to the game?

Yes, the game is already on Steam Greenlight and you can vote "Yes" if want to see it get on Steam.

As for it being free. The original prototype of the game will remain free for people to play. However we won't be releasing the new version for free.
Why?
For this game, a number of the features we are going to be adding is difficult and very time consuming. We are also developers currently working out of our own pocket, who need to be able to eat and pay bills in order to make this happen for everyone. Even with part time jobs, development only takes longer.
In an ideal world, we'd love to make games for free for everyone to enjoy. But in order for us to create more games in the future, money to be able to do that has to come from somewhere to give us all the time we need to be able to work on The Very Organized Thief and future titles.

When I play the game, the torch doesn't work. All it does is make the house harder to see. Is it a bug or glitch?

This is a known issue and has to do with your graphics hardware.
Unity optimizes certain features depending on your computers hardware. And sometimes, if your hardware isn't good enough, it turns off lights to increase the games performance for your system. But for games which rely on these lights, the game appears broken.

When you say new levels, do you mean new houses, owners, objects etc. or just new features in the same hose? Great game.

When we say new levels. We mean new levels which will contain new items, new things for you to do and interact with.
These levels will also contain different types of characters.
We're aiming to make each level unique and have their own challenges in finding the items on your list.

So, are there ways to stop the owner? Since we're not able to physically trap the owner or block the owner from coming.

In the current version people have successfully trapped the owner in the closet or creatively used a number moveable objects to block the owner from moving.
But in terms of an actual way to prevent the owner coming home, nope! The owner is already on his way home when the game starts.

Are you ever going to do a multiplayer TVOThief?

We'd like to add multiplayer, however we're currently prioritising development around the single player modes.
We're doing a lot of research into multiplayer, looking at what is required to develop, host and maintain a multiplayer game before we can really say if it will or won't have multiplayer.
But we will be keeping it in mind as we move forward!

What owners are you going to add in and are they going to have homes and stats? Also will there be a over world type thing? Oh and final question are all of the special teddy bears going to stay, if so can they be collectibles?

We will be adding some new characters with the new levels we hope to create. Some of the details about what we would like to do is still up in the air. It really depends on our final starting budget that we will find out when the kickstarter ends (if it's successful and also it hasn't started yet). And YES! The special teddy bears are going to stay.

We don't have specific scheduled dates for developer diaries as of yet as we're priortising work for our kickstarter, but we will be updating people with its progress.
As for sneak peaks and screenshots, you'll have to wait and see! No point in scheduling surprises!

When the alarm on the electricity box goes off, does the owner come home quicker? Because whenever I start the game, the first thing I do is turn off the electricity. I accidentally cut the blue wire first, setting off the alarm. Then, the owner came home 10 seconds later.

The owner will come home quicker if you trip the alarm first. If you don't trip the alarm he comes home his usual time.
