No. We kept supplying them for 5 years after we stopped producing it. Most were made a decade ago!

Its going to be a production item. We do not anticipate it going to anything other than specialty yoyo retail stores, but we do plan to maintain production to fill the demands of both competitive and casual players.

Stuck bad? It doesn't need to move. It has no influence on response. The axle holds the YoYo together. That's its only job. It won't influence sound and it is made from a stronger material that the YOYO so there is more chance to bend the yoyo halves than the axle.
I don't think any problem you have described is caused by the axle.
