Ask @aliceindissonance:

Hi, I'm making a Wikia for the fault series. Could you tell me whether Sanne-Ajrizdia is the name of the island Rughzenhaide is on or whether it is some other geographical name?

WellBattle6
Ah hello. Since this data is going towards a good cause, let's throw in some brand spankin' new data from SILENCE THE PEDANT too shall we?
Sanne-Ajrizda is the name of the continent where Rughzenhaide and the Alliance reside. The Alliance Kingdoms are as follows: Suegden, Ruidewan, Vhastoralkat, Kielgar, Rodojyu, and Morgeish. The South East island that looks like a Mcnugget is Schezt-karlien (Schezt for short and they are not a part of the Alliance) and is split between North Schezt and South Schezt kind of like Korea. The huge continent to the East is known as the "Union Territories" and only a fraction of the land is known to the people of Sanne-Ajrizda.
Also... this is how you pronounce these countries... Lets do this once and for all so people have an official reference.
Sanne-Ajrizda : San Ariz-da、サンアリズタ
Rughzenhaide: Roo-zen-hide、ルゼンハイド
Vhastoralkat: Vas-tor-al-kat、(正)ヴァストアルカ/(訛)バーストアルカ
Suegdaine: Soog-dain 、(正)スグデン/(訛)スーグディェン
Ruidewan: Rude-wan、ルードワン
Kielgar : Keel-gar, キールガー
Rodojyu : Rodo-Jew、ロドジュ
Morgeish: More-Geesh、 モルギーシュ
Schezt-karlien: Shest-car-lin 、 シェストカーリン
As always, these are close phonetics and are not 100% accurate. This list is just a reference. You can call them whatever you'd like, just don't let the people of these country catch you butchering their Kingdoms name.

Can any of the girls in the main trio sing? If so, how well do they sing? An odd question, but I just thought it would be interesting to find out!

Let's make this a special one. Say... an Ask.fm exclusive answer.
Ritona wants to sing but she can't. Terrible singer. Selphine can sing normally. Rune I have no idea, I've never heard her sing.
Selphine's mother, Selah Rughzenahide was on her way to become a Songkraveter when she was younger. Long story short, she had a lot of talent but marrying Valah and giving birth to Selphine took priority and she had to give up on her dream of singing for the troops (please don't ask about the function of Songkravting now, its too much to explain and should be experienced in the game itself.)
Selphine's name comes from here. Valah suggested to name his and Selah's daughter, Selphine. "Phine (fee-nay)" is an old Sanne Ajrizda word that stood for "sound" which was also synonymously used for "music" way way back in the day (phine is no longer used this way anymore, hence why it's called "Songkravting" rather than "Phinekravting").
So Selphine = Selah's Song / Selah's Music.
There's a touching story in there somewhere but with how everything is laid out .... I'm not sure where to add it in canon since this is even before StP. If I succeed somewhere down the line then hey, you heard it here folks.

Is there a full list of English words translated into foreign language from the fault world?

I have a complied list of Sanne Ajrizda to Japanese and from Japanese I've translated it into English. This is something I haven't released to the public yet. Sanne Ajrizda is consistent throughout the series so try to decode it if you're interested =P
hint: capitalization of the same word means different things but is usually in the same bracket of emotion. this also means that words don't need to be capitalized when its at the beginning of a sentence. for example...
fallacy = 美しい/ beautiful
Fallacy = 愛,/love
And I'll give a section away from Modus Operandi:
Arn aChantil bilghe
アールンアシャンティールヴィルエ
Mana Fallacy Wyld
マナファラ(ー)シーヴィル
(謳えこの世で最もマナに愛される歌を)
(Sing the song that's most loved by the mana of this world)
Good luck..

I didn't see any info (or at least an ask) but what's the origin/story behind the name, Alice in Dissonance?

This is one of those questions where I feel like I can't answer too throughly for the fear of sounding pretentious... but hey. You asked.
I've always subconsciously associated the name "Alice" with curiosity, innocence, and adventure, most likely because of Lewis Carroll's obvious classic "Alice in Wonderland". Not that big a fan of the story itself per say but I've always liked the name and wanted to use it somewhere. I also like strong contrast. Sad and happy at the same time, cute and but creepy, angry and calm, etc.
ALICE IN DISSONANCE is that moment your innocence and sense of wonder starts going grey because of a traumatic or shocking experience. That feeling when you grow extremely self-aware and realize that you're a tad bit less naive than you were just a moment ago. There is no despair or anger or hatred or disappointment. You are just In Dissonance. The logo was made with this idea in mind as well.
Most importantly though, it just sounds fucking cool.

Do you think your life experiences spill into the story you write? You don't have to talk about anything specific, but I was wondering.

>Do you think your life experiences spill into the story you write?
I don't know how it can be any other way. Creativity isn't magic, it's a form of discipline, and generally speaking our output can never be greater than what we input. You have to study things like tone, pacing and how emotions work in order to write an effective story. It requires a lot of practice.
...But I have a feeling that's not what you are asking. Are you asking if some of these things have happened to me before? And like, I'm putting fictional names on real life people and presenting it as a "fictional" story? If thats the case, then no. Attached is a similar question I've answered before.

I get onto my laptop while wearing a fault t-shirt. I put my hand on my fault mousepad and boot it up. I see a fault background and I launch Steam. I see both fault games and the tech demo. I then open up tf2 and proceed to play after spraying a picture of fault on the wall. Why?

Holy crap, you are all decked out. You sir or madam, win the win the internet award for this month.
I also appreciate your effort to make this a question.

I want to die. What would King vhalar do?

Probably tell you not to die. And figure out a way not to let that happen.
"If you died, you won't be able to read the rest of fault, man."
No but on a serious note. Vhalar isn't here so please call a suicide hotline if you are serious about taking your life. A lot of people end up realizing that they weren't seeing straight when they look back on suicidal tendencies so try to think outside of your current perspective (though it's impossible when you're depressed). You have to ask for help even if you don't want it.

Assume your IP grows into something big. What further improvements to fault (or any different IP) would you make with all that extra moolah?

Shortening production cycle by hiring capable creators so we can massively restructure our workflow. I have like 4 more IP ideas that aren't fault that I want to make a reality before I die... But it's gonna take forever to get to them at this pace. I'd love to be able to hire writers at some point to parallel produce stories of fault from different parts of that world too. So so many things I want to do...
If you're talking about fluff that's not too crucial (to me at least) voice acting maybe? As cool as VA is, and all the street credit we'll probably get, that's definately not too high on the list at the moment though.
Silence the Pedant is turning out to be pretty close to what I think is the best way to present my vision of fault ... I can't really think of what if want to add to it. I'm sure I'll probably think of something after we are done making it though.
A 3D VR recreation of Rughzenhaide would be super awesome too. It will be like Whiterun of Skyrim but way bigger and more detailed since it's focused on 1 area. You don't really do much in it. Just walk around and experience the culture over there, meet people. Maybe see Selphine and Ritona walking around in the distance and you can hear the good around you freaking out that they saw the princess. Good lord, that would be freaking awesome.

Is it wierd to have dreams with fictional characters? I just had a dream where I was supposed to introduce Selphine to the CEO of some company, but the elevator broke and we ate at McDonald's right across the street. By the way, thanks McDonald's person. You have successfully raided my dreams.

Your dream made me smile lol. That's a great note to end the day on. And no I don't think it's weird at all. It happens to me all the time.

Random question, but would Ritona eat at Mcdonald's? If so, what would her favorite food be there?

This has got to be one of the weirdest questions we've received so far.
When it comes to food, Ritona is generally a mildly picky eater but she'll never flat out decline to try things. When she doesn't know what to order off a foreign menu, she tends to order what the establishment is most known for or 「看板メニュー」 in Japanese。
So if the gang somehow by miracle ends up in our universe's McDonalds somewhere, she'll probably get a Big Mac.

1. Does the new translation of fault ms1 only correct the mistakes of the previous one, or were some newer changes applied in it? 2. What is the story behind the new translation being necessary? In previous answers it sounded like you were not satisfied with the previous one.

Alexey the Secretive
The new one is basically completely new and faithful to the original Japanese text. The story of localization is boring. I had no idea how translations were supposed to be handled at the time. I was give the impression that liberal stylistic choices were necessary to localize effectively but that simple wasn't the case. I know better now.

At a certain point in the new translation of fault ms1 it is said that there are 5 types of colored mana (the new one is “void”), however, in other moments of the game, as well as in the encyclopedia, it is still said that there are 4 of them. What was that?

Alexey the Secretive
The "void" -- or Vibaelia's blessing -- was never new. It's what the outer-pole folks called "purified mana" and it lies within all people. This mana is used to start kravtes -- the flint before the synergy -- so without it there would be no manakravte.
Some people don't believe that the Vibaelia element is mana though and there is no unifying consensus. 4 vs 5 types, they are both technically correct.

Umm... I want to try cast a manakravte, but I don't understand the explicit steps. What is commit, shift, blass doing?

AlexLeoTW
It should be in the encyclopedia (or maybe not because our old translator may have just ognored the whole thing)
Shifting -- is when you move mana around you so it's easier for you to...
Commit -- mana, where you lock the mana that you've shifted so they don't drift away.
Synergy -- comes next to heighten the efficiency of any kravte with less fuel/mana and finally you
Bless -- which is a synonym for "casting" but less blasphemous. You don't "cast" a kravte, you "bless" it.
Some people can do this without mana, but those people are very rare so you might have a hard time replicating it here on Earth, especially without an instructor.
Be sure and drop us a line if you figure it out, though.

Was Rune originally a boy? (Looking at the image in the concept art)

Yes and no.
I wrote her as a girl but Hare-san and I barely knew each other this point and obvious points didn't get across to each other. She had her own interpretations of Rune (being a dude) but when I told her that Rune was a girl, she had to scrap everything and draw something new. Her original interpretation lingered though.
My version of Rune was a lot more girly and she was wearing a skirt, long hair, black hair and bangs cut horizontal straight like Irufa from TH2. When Hare-san drew Rune with the pigtails and pants I didn't know what to think at the time but holy shit, am I glad that I went with her look. Rune's look has a very specific purpose now and I'm very glad we went with Hare-sans idea rather than mine.

So I've got a few questions, what's a normal work day like for you. Do you spend most of your time thinking or are you glued to your screen typing away? Do you make quick jots and outlines for your ideas? I know making a story can be pretty chaotic, jumping around, how do you organize everything?

Every day is pretty drastically different.. which is really unfortunate in a "get shit done" sense because there should be more structure. Thinking is something that happens all the time so there rarely is any "thinking time" block. As for writing... I have a wall in my room where huge pieces of crafting paper cover like 90% of it. Anytime I get an idea I write on this wall. Even if I jot notes down on my phone, I'll later write it on this wall if I think it would make it into some story later. Things stick better this way and you also have the benefit of looking like an insane person when you invite people over.
Most of my writing ideas that connect the dots come to me as I write. Many things aren't premeditated, like for instance, Sol never had a sister in the first draft of ms2a or Eline never existed in the first pass of ms1, both characters that became extremely important parts of the story. Hare-san has made peace with the way I write... as extremely minor characters all of a sudden become main characters.
Hare: "You told me you only need 1 body and a few faces for this character because he was just a mob!?"
Me: "Yeah but wouldn't it be cool if this character all of a sudden did xxxx and became a major plot point in the story!? No body would be expecting that, because even I didn't expect it!!"
I don't recommend this style though... unless you have a very understanding artist.
Asides from that, lately I've been managing and directing stuff more than writing and this side of work is starting to get overwhelming.... orz We need to get someone that can handle all this so I can focus more on writing, but this probably isn't the best place to complain about stuff like this.
