Ask @cheowster:

Hi! Do you know how the allocation system works in bbdc? I haven't got one of the instructors in my group for so long, only got him once for my 1st lesson and I like him a lot! Wondering still got chance to get him?

Sorry I left a while back so I can't remember! Maybe you can try checking with him to see if he has any particular time slots that he usually chooses to work in BBDC? Otherwise, maybe you can check with the staff at the counter and see if they can assign you a particular instructor. :) Hope that helps!

you kindly share with me the level of difficulty in exams/project work. Are they exceedingly tedious? Also, how are poly students like in general? Based on the little I know, poly students are usually quite accepting(?) and friendly. Is that true?

Not extremely tedious, pretty manageable as long as you 1) exams: follow closely to your modules, 2) projects: keep track of work with your teammates.
Poly students are pretty fun to be around and more "chill" about studies/exams compared to JC students. However, many are pretty two-faced (I mean, that's the world actually) so you gotta know which friends to trust and hang around. It's true though that poly students are more friendly and outgoing :)

How to get a good gpa haha

You need to really know when to prioritise your time for studies and ensure you've studied hard enough and understand your papers and modules well. Also, if there are group projects, try to be present all the time and contribute to the team. Participate during discussions in class for, no doubt, participation marks. And it will be good though, to go for talks and join camps/CCA groups for extra curriculum points apart from your school work.

Hey chelsea perhaps u can share about how we can cope with competitive friends in biz sch haha?

Usually, people would already be generally more competitive in the business school due to its culture and environment. I guess you can either be really mindful of the situation and be as competitive or even more hardworking than them, or you can not bother at all so that it wouldn't affect you. For me I chose the latter but usually people just stay competitive to keep up with other classmates, usually because of peer pressure and the bell curve.

Could u emphasise on the competitiveness in biz sch? Also what conflicts did u face during group projects?

Hmm. We have this system called the bell curve whereby your rank/grade will be lower if other classmates score higher than you. They average out the scores and people want to do better than others. It's also normal that different groups want to do better than the other groups to "feel good" about themselves. Conflict wise, usually people come across disagreements due to differing views in the project content, attitudes or not pleased with the other party's performance. There can be a lot of bitching going on, but of course there are fun moments too as a team :)

There's this girl in my class that's using me... She kept forcing me to give her answers and print notes, and when I need some help she would shut me away and not help.... And when I pushed her away everyone's seeing me as a bad guy:(

You need to be firm and stand your ground when you encounter her in the future. People do usually see it this way because girls always seem to have a better advantage over guys, especially if she's good looking. Maybe you should tell her politely about what you feel and hopefully she might understand and help you in need in the future. If it gets out of hand and really bothers you, do seek help from a teacher :)

All classmates seems the using me cuz I'm smart... Really not trying to brag but seems that they only come to me for answers but left out during lunch or whatever:(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they may find you a pushover or too afraid to speak up for yourself, which explains why they seem to be making use of you. You should speak to a lecturer closer to you who will hopefully be able to help you out, and maybe find a nicer group of friends who will better understand your personality and hang out with you instead :)

overall did u enjoy poly life?

Definitely enjoyed myself! We were given more freedom as compared to students in JCs, and there were plenty of amenities provided in my school. Although projects might be hectic and there were certainly hiccups along the way, I still had a tons of fun with my group of closer pals and my overall journey as a polytechnic student.

Any tips on how to keep your car in the centre while driving on the road? I have pass my stage 2 lesson already, but I still can't seem to keep my car in the centre and my instructor have to constantly say about it. :( But i really can't feel my car isn't in the centre of the road.

I think it varies for different cars and sizes, but maybe you can try looking further ahead at the lane markings and place yourself a bit off centre to the right. I would ask my instructor for advice too, because they are professional drivers and would know the roads better!

Hi, how did you get so slim? Any secrets? Could see the difference and changes when comparing your old photos to now!

Thank you! It was quite a drastic change, wasn't it? It actually started off from having irregular meals in my Polytechnic days (unhealthy, yes, but I had to stay late in school for projects). My appetite became smaller and I started to eat slightly lesser oily/fried food — just slightly. However, the best way to lose weight healthily is to exercise! Go for jogs, workout and watch your diet. :)

How do I see if they're genuinely nice and not just trying to get something from me? Sorry if I ask too much x_x

It's alright! Hm, this will only have to depend on your own intuition. However, it gets easier to understand a person's character after a period of time throughout your course of study as you'll be spending most of your time in class together. Just be kind to everyone, but be careful not to get taken advantage of. Hope this helped!

Well I got no one, I never had a normal sec sch life, that why I choose poly to have friends, and honestly ppl look so much better than me, and they always get remembered, while I'm like the invisible one, until now I got no clique or close friends, I'm really scared x((((

Sadly, the harsh truth out there is that the slimmer, better looking and aesthetically pleasing ones will always stand out more than the rest. :( Just take it slowly, befriend those who are genuinely nicer, and go with the flow. There are bound to be a few friends that you're fine with!

how did you lose weight?

I was really cooped up by school projects and didn't take my meals regularly. I felt my appetite becoming smaller and I slowly started consuming lesser for each meal. However, what I went through definitely wasn't the best method to lose weight — it will be a whole lot healthier if you go for regular jogs and practice cardio work-outs.

I always get forgotten for outing in my poly class :(((( one guy he didn't even try to communicate with the class got invited more often, while I tried so much to communicate, makes jokes, try to remember their birthday etc, but got forgotten... Why? Cuz I look I got, THIS IS SO UNFAIR!! >:((((((

From the way I see it, maybe your friends might find that you're trying a little too hard to blend in? No worries about having to be included for every single outing, it's fine to just be yourself and hanging out with friends who are more comfortable around your presence. Maybe you want to approach someone whom you think knows you well (can be a close friend or lecturer) and see what advice they could give you? They might point out your flaws and you can slowly improve from there :)
