First i would ask the friend to show evidence and maybe talk to him and stay as friends for a lil more just to be safe

Maybe trust his friends since they probably know him than you do idk
If you think he's a good guy and you trust him then go for it, but just know that if he starts acting dumb it's because guys will act good with the female they want to be with.
if a friend says he’s not loyal you will never know until yo meet him in person but if you do it’s like your putting yourself in that situation to get hurt in the end. you can try and meet up with him since he’s only a state away. but do what you think is best for you.
