I use friends' information for anything I have to connect my account with (for example, applications for press to anime cons), robustly ensure neither I nor any of my crew post anything legitimately identifying, and scrub the fuck out of any pictures I take (not just properties, but I'll even black out windows or items that aren't the focus of the pic, which you can see in my collection posts as an example).

I wish I didn't have to be this paranoid, but when you have people whom you know despise you coming up to your friends at cons and glibly letting them know they have all your fucking dox, it can really fuck with you.

"context" is my go-to word, but... yeah, you can explain a lot of it away. Translation style and philosophy plays a lot into it too.
