Read The Economist on the bus today! When I first took out a subscription in 2013 it baffled me, but I kept on and it started making more sense. So that is a work of self-improvement which succeeded.
My 'voice' on here sounds like an angry, depressed old man I know! (I hope I'm not actually like that, and if anyone met me during one of my long-distance walks or a holiday they'd find me to be much less grim than I seem online). As to my voice in the literal sense I've never liked it. But I think that's partly due to the tendency mot people have towards not liking their own voices, and also that I've imbibed some of the snobbery towards local accents, of which I have a very strong one.http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/stoke-on-trentSo I suppose my voice isn't objectionable in itself, but I don't want to hear it?
Under what circumstances do you block people on social media?
When they talk too much and post shit like Britain First. Either they actually believe it or they're too stupid to see it for what it is, and why bother in either case? That, and people who talk too much about things which don't interest me. The reason I haven't added most of my work colleagues on social media is that I already listen to them for 8 hours a day and not to be rude but I don't give a toss what they have to say.I sometimes think I am too handy with the block button, but I only have so much online time and why waste that in reading tat? If I had more time I might have more forbearance, but as it is I stick only to the worthwhile, which I'm pleased to say this site is.
I especially like historical fiction and fictional books like Robinson Crusoe which were written a long time ago and hed light on the mores of the time.I especially like fiction written by people like Simon Montefiore who are professional historians, or people like Bernard Cornwell who could have done if they'd wanted to.And I like books, fact and fiction, about the places I go to as I weave it into the experience and feel of the visit to the place. So if there's one recommendation the book I read each time I go to Wales is the one I'd recommend as it is a masterpiece.https://www.walesartsreview.org/greatest-welsh-novel-13-on-the-black-hill-by-bruce-chatwin/
I've successfully purged Americanisms like so and like from my language but I do feel that in my blog http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/photosI sometimes hope people will just look at the pictures and skip the words as I don't feel confident as a writer and I feel I use too many fillers like terrific, fantastic, great, first-rate, and others when I have nothing else to say.But most of the time I think this is a relatively minor problem and for the most part it's good,
As I touched on in my answer to @TheBeesKneesGirl , I am planning with some excitement my journey to Edinburgh http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/edinburghWhere I will see the sights and visit my cousin who lives there, crowned by an Evensong at the Episcopal Cathedral, which I know is a bit of an English thing to do but something I find relaxing after the train journey. Then, planting trees in Glen Affric for a week https://treesforlife.org.uk/blogs/article/companionship-adventure-and-hope-a-week-of-tree-planting-in-glen-affric/That was written by one of the leaders of the first expedition I went on, and September's will be the fourth. It will be a really super trip.So what's the problem... those throbbers at Scotrail STILL haven't released their advance tickets, which they allegedly do 12 weeks before the journey, though in fact the journey is less than 9 weeks away.Paying £92 isn't my idea of a night out but I may have to if they don't sort out a basic thing that every other network has managed to do.
I like Scottish words like throbber (don't look that up if you're of a sensitive disposition!) and my favourite of the insults at the moment is zoomer.I'm not sure who decided zoomer would make a good insult and when it started being used, but I do know that Scotrail have been messing me around and are accordingly zoomers.
Please reply this message with a question you want to ask those anon who ask silly questions to you on ask.fm ?
Have you chosen me specifically for some reason or do you do it to lots of people and I'm just a random person on your list whose answers you ignore, like I was with Ben Isaacs.
Monday is the busiest and worst day, which is why I eat my favourite foods like linguine & gnocchi on a Monday night. Then I tell myself having done one day I can do the rest. The quietest and best day is Saturday and I do feel now that it's on its way.
Without looking any of these terms up, can you explain what the following are.... Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Omnivore, Vegan, Carnivore, Ovo-vegetarian, Lacto-vegetarian, Raw vegan, Fruitarian.
Vegetarian- person who doesn't eat meat or fish Pescetarian- person who eats fish but not meat Omnivore- like me, someone who eats anything that they like, and is willing to eat vegetarian meals but not to be fully vegetarian Vegan- person who doesn't eat meat, fish, eggs or dairy (there is also the honey debate, but I'm not wading into that!?) Carnivore- person who eats meat and is stuck in the mud about eating vegetarian food (I know what the technical meaning is, but I apply it mainly to anti-vegetarians). Ovo-vegetarian- person who in addition to the definition of vegetarian above, also doesn't eat dairy, but does eat eggs. Lacto-vegetarian- person who is a vegetarian as above, but avoids eggs, while still eating dairy. Raw vegan- person who doesn't cook food and eats fruit and vegetables (this isn't my idea of a night out!?) Fruitarian- Don't know this one, I'll look it up?
Roast lamb is the smell of coming back from church on a Sunday, having my grandarents visit & eating a Sunday roast. If I had an equivalent to Proust's madeleine it would be that.
My favourite thing is to spend time with my girlfriend but I don't actually do this very often as she lives (what feels like) a long way away. http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/birminghamSo this is what I end up doing.Walking for at least 3 miles each day.Listening to music http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/musicWorking on my photography website http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/photosAlbeit, I don't generally have much to post about as I don't have enough time to do interesting things :(Reading books, and in recent days, watching the Tour de France, where I'm a staunch Geraint Thomas supporter!
