worse thing about being diabetic
Knowing that your lifespan is shortened the longer you've had it.
Knowing that every non-diabetic around you has something you want, need and should have naturally but never will.
knowing that (for me) I will never ever be able to live without my Pod. A little life support machine that can never be switched off no matter how well you feel.
Insulin causes weighr gain and weight gain means more insulin.
People staring.
People treating you differently.
The fact that it is chronic.
Oh, and this: diabetes is fatal. People think that because outwardly we look pretty good, that we're not ill.
Like, don't you get it? A mere couple of hours without insulin and our bodies stary to /shut down/. I've been there.
Do you know what dying feels like?
Do you know what /organ failure/ feels like? How's about the pain you feel when your heart can't beat properly anymore, or when you lose consciousness and wake up with a femoral line and 8 fluid bags, a cannula in your foot and a catheter and YOU'RE ONLY 18.
