Ask @lynbrook2018:

when will the powderpuff party be? just wondering, since i may not be here for it

(this is Lilian), & the powderpuff party will most likely be at the same time as a HC decs meeting :), so we can all help our class with HC this year and enjoy some junk food at the same time. We're counting on this weekend, but the officers are still trying to find a better time! (we'll send out e-mails when the party occurs)

hi so i was wondering if you guys would make some dance meetings like over the summer because i play a fall sport so i probably won't have time to do weekdays afterschool :( can you guys take that in consideration when planning dance meetings? -Amber

Hi Amber! :)
Sorry but we host dance meetings during the school year because it accommodates for most people. During the school year, we try to have them during the school day (at lunch, before school on Wednesdays, etc.) and sometimes on the weekend. Hopefully it won't interfere with after school sports!

I have a feeling that if there are cuts, people are just gonna not join in general

The reason why we're even considering cuts is only partly because of the large amount of signups; it's mostly that it is really hard to teach people who are late/don't show up to meetings/unproductive at practices. We've had these types of cuts (based on effort and commitment) before and it has been pretty successful! (Powderpuff, Rally)
Whether or not cuts based on skill will happen is up to the choreographers.

can we join lets say coed and boys? or can we only join 1 :3

We will try our best to allow everyone to participate in as many dances as possible, but it depends on the number of participants and whether there are cuts or not. However, we encourage you to sign up as many as you can dedicate time to! For now, sign-up on the form for everything you are INTERESTED in, and we'll send out more info afterwards :)

What if I'm gone this summer?

this summer, we will be working on the script, choreographing dances, recruiting actors/voicers, and decs.
For everything besides decs, it's very exclusive. Meaning, there's a specific script team, there's a specific choreographing team, and actors/voicers will be contacted based on the form (rehearsals for skit will most likely not start until school begins). Therefore, if you want to work on the script or dances, be sure to have time this summer.
For decs, it's more lenient. There will be meetings very often, but they're all optional, unless you want to take charge of a specific part of decs (for example, the 3D numbers/words). However, we encourage people to attend as many meetings as possible! ^_^

What is the time commitment for dance and skit?

expect meetings at least once a week (Wednesday mornings for dance, weekends for skit), and as homecoming approaches, anywhere from 1-4 meeting per week. However, the main part of dance is learning the choreography, then it comes to cleaning up the choreography and working on formations. If you are unable to attend certain meetings, it is okay as long as you contact the choreographers ahead a reasonable amount of time. For skit, the time commitment is similar to dance, but meetings are more strict/mandatory, because we need all actors AND voicers present to hold a productive meetings!!!

Will there be cuts for specific dances?

Cuts may or may not happen, all based on the choreographer's discretion. But currently, the girl's and the coed dance signups are the most popular (2x the amount of freshman hc each). Therefore we suggest the 2018 guys to join the boy's dance, but joining that does not guarantee you a spot either. The spots will most likely be based on time/commitment (large percentage). However, we will let you know all the information ahead of time before we begin teaching the dance, so don't be afraid to sign up :):)

Any choreographer tips?

we definitely encourage anyone and everyone to sign-up !!! :)
but keep this in mind: choreographing a dance is time consuming and not easy. It is very difficult to choreograph a dance without much previous dance experience, and it is hard to choreograph a complex yet easy-enough dance for mostly novice dancers. In addition, leadership as well as responsibility is needed in choreographers. Not only will you be creating a 2-3 minute dance from scratch, but you will have to hold your own meetings, contact your own dancers, and earn the respect of your participants. A lot of emphasis is being put in this answer because choreographing is not something easy and should not be taken lightly. During last summer, the girl's dance took about two straight weeks to choreograph, meeting most days at Saif's house every day from 10 AM-4 PM. In other words, choreo is difficult, but highly rewarding. If you're up for it, step up to the challenge!
