Do people ultimately feel very lonely?
Yes, it's the human condition without god.
As a child I've had a hard time connecting with other humans. I was an edgy fedora-tipping-prepubescent-kid (can't say much has changed) and I understood human beings as uniquely shaped by their own experiences.
Their entire existence was situated on separate islands and each person's hands were straining towards the others, encumbered by the deep blue sea.
All you could do was shoot flares into the sky, or etch out S.O.S. into the dirt and hope someone, somewhere finds you.
But that's all bull crap. Everyone is burdened by their own loneliness and their means to escape it. Human beings cannot ultimately save you (although they may be a conduit for God to reach you). I know, I've tried for years.
It cannot be filled with art, hedonism, escapism, even self denial. I know, I've tried them all.
You just have to come to God
