What childhood experience or memory do you love the most? Can you digitally narrate it?

No I cannot type it. Nothing sticks out. If I were to remember my childhood all I feel is a dull sweet pain, and all I see is are hazy images

I think the same.

I like how you think, maybe because it's similar to my streams of consciousness. I feel like you are light, and heavy.
But ask is not the place for friendship.

Do you think free will exists? Do we have control over our decisions, or are we just set on a predetermined path? Please elaborate.

amrokasha76’s Profile PhotoAmr Okasha
When I was in year 10 I believed everyone was a product of their childhood, of things beyond their control. This idea ruined me, basically. This belief was one piece into the manifesto of my depression. I thought I was beyond help, and any evil I did was not the result of my choice but of external circumstances. I believed in God but I believed he was evil since he punished people for things they had no control of. No free will meant I could not rise beyond my addictions, and I blamed others for my problems. There was a lot of self pity and stagnation. I hated it. I hated everything.
Anyway I digress, my understanding of freewill was wrong, it was twisted. Freewill in its purest sense of "doing what thou wilt" doesn't exist. There is no such thing. One must understand there are external influences. The only free will one has is the freedom to choose between good and evil. These are the decisions that matter, and there is a part of ourselves that is detached, and can make the choice between right and wrong.
Sometimes we open ourselves to drugs, and this can impair our judgement but there is still a detached part that can say "I need help". Each decisions, each choice is a twist in our soul towards heaven or hell.
Other people's choices can also effect you, but how you react to it is under your control. There are definitely things beyond our control. But we can choose that which is within our circle of influence.

How do you feel about people saying "but I was just asking" as an excuse for inappropriate or negative questions?

Seagull
I feel it is simply "just asking". Emboldened by anonymity, I too have thrown caution to the wind and asked inappropriate questions out of curiosity. Ask away

Are there "secrets to the universe" or is that just romanticising the idea, iyo?

Seagull
Secrets of the universe implies the universe is sentient, and if so then it ceases to be a "force" and becomes a God, so to speak.
To carry with this chain of thought, I don't think it is romanticising, just like I don't think believing in God is romanticising either, to believe in a sentient being having secrets.
But I believe when we die and pass on to the afterlife, everything will be made known and we shall see one another, not like a mirror with its poor reflection, but face to face. "Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known"

Why do so many people make themselves appear as weak in order to gain attention?

Seagull
I didn't know people regularly do this? I guess it is a cry for help or attention. I used to browse r9k on the chan and people purposely put themselves down, I think it would a more interesting question to instead ask: "why do people make themselves appear weak, is it to gain attention?"

Does it take more strength to be kind to everyone, or to hate everyone? Why?

Seagull
It's both. Bear with me. I don't mean to purposely sound pseudo intellectually vague. What I mean is, to be kind is initially tiring if one is not used to it. And to be kind in the face of meanness when all you want to do is snap back is harder. But once you keep at it, it becomes easier, like a muscle you exercise.
However hatred is draining. Even after a raging fire simmers down into a flame, it still taxes the mind, the body and the soul. And it makes sense therefore, to have lots of strength in order to hate. However strong though, eventually one will break. Ergo hatred requires more strength.

Do you think political correctness has gone over the line, mainly in social media?

Seagull
I'm a bit on the fence about this. Language shapes our perception of reality. This I know. But having a victim complex about everything on the internet doesn't make sense, and frankly speaking, it's annoying.
One should be politically correct so as to not offend another's sensibilities, that would be charitable and therefore good. But if one accidentally does offend, he should not be lynched for it.

Should law enforcement base its way of operation with more regards to moral standards (such as forgiveness, humility, kindness, etc)? Why / why not?

Seagull
Yes they should. Although justice is important, most of the time mercy is even more. Prisoners are often mentally ill and sticking them in a place with other similar people could potentially ruin them for life.
Instead rehabilitation would be better, or even mental asylums. Never death sentences, which leaves no room for redemption.
In punishing bad behaviour we should be careful not become monsters ourselves.
Can you see the heart of a man? His essence? Our judgement is so shallow I don't see how true justice is accomplished.

Do people ultimately feel very lonely?

Seagull
Yes, it's the human condition without god.
As a child I've had a hard time connecting with other humans. I was an edgy fedora-tipping-prepubescent-kid (can't say much has changed) and I understood human beings as uniquely shaped by their own experiences.
Their entire existence was situated on separate islands and each person's hands were straining towards the others, encumbered by the deep blue sea.
All you could do was shoot flares into the sky, or etch out S.O.S. into the dirt and hope someone, somewhere finds you.
But that's all bull crap. Everyone is burdened by their own loneliness and their means to escape it. Human beings cannot ultimately save you (although they may be a conduit for God to reach you). I know, I've tried for years.
It cannot be filled with art, hedonism, escapism, even self denial. I know, I've tried them all.
You just have to come to God

Does self control and regulation have to do with freedom? How so?

self control and regulation have to do with freedom
the only freedom one has, is the freedom to choose between good and evil, or as the blue castle by L.M. Montgomery likes to put it, the "freedom to choose our prison".
So on one hand we can be "prisoners" of our body- of our body's desires, of lust, of pride, of ego, hedonism, whatever. Or we can be "prisoners" of the Spirit of God (which according to Christianity, mixes with our human spirit) so we are "prisoners" of righteousness, of self control, ("for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control" 2 Timothy 1:7) of obedience to God, which is above all obedience to the commandment to love God then man.
so self control and regulation can be found when one chooses to know and let God into their lives, that's what I believe, derived from personal experiences.

If endless pits had eyes, what would they see?

"gaze into the abyss and the abyss will gaze back into you" paraphrased but you get it

What would you consider a wasteful and a none wasteful life? Why?

good question. time is the greatest economic resource I have right now. a wasteful life is one in which I did not expend this limited resources to the best of my ability to achieve all I could when I was alive.

What are things some people consider progressive which you deem stupid/annoying/anything else? Why?

supposed feminists who act as if men are the cause of their problems and in turn bring men down in order to uplift themselves

"We see the world through ourselves, therefor our selves are our worlds" - How do you interpret this quote and do you agree with it?

"we see the world through ourselves"
so our reality is shaped by our subjective experienced.
detour- this reminds me of this cool theory I read about for sociology. so so sapir-whorf theory, our reality is shaped by our language. I'll give you an instance: in the urban areas we reside in, we have limited names for the colour green. But for people who have hunter gatherer life styles, they have a greater variety of names for the colour green. So when we're tasked to distinguish between various shades of green, we cannot do so, but the hunters can. This is because language forces us to pay attention to certain concepts. This theory tickles my fancy a lot, c'est jolie.
anyway, just because we experience reality in a subjective manner does not mean reality is a reflection of ourselves; rather we experience life in our own limited world. However I can see beyond the reality of my own perceptions should I choose to do so. I could debate with anti-islamists, pro trump/Hillary/shiv sena etc etc, and place myself in their shoes. And by genuinely making an attempt to understand others, we shift our reality, develop a sociological imagination, and understand our own perception of reality better :)
