Do you see over-saturation becoming a big issue in the EVN scene as far as Steam releases go?

Not really. Granted, it is more or less the industry standard now and there's not really a "gateway of quality" or anything, since Greenlight is pretty easily exploitable. However, I think that the market is still young enough that any growth is good growth (at least until we start getting absolute shovelware)

Hey, I noticed that you didnt put MS under ongoing projects in your twitter bio, does it mean you are no longer part of it, or that it is dead?

I am and it's not.

2/2 If so, how much worse would you rank your other free projects like MS compared to HRP? Is MS even worth reading, simply on the basis that its free? What about KS, which inspired you guys to begin with?

Relating it to standards was poor wording on my part. I think a project can be great on 0 budget - just look at WIP. For us though, with the particular artists that we wanted to work with, "free" wasn't an option. Yeah, we could've found different artists who were willing to work for free, but we didn't wanna compromise on our top choices, and that was what I meant in the part that you're quoting.

I was going through HRP's kickstarter and saw this: "Our funding goal is higher than a lot of projects similar to ours because our standards are a lot higher, too." Is your/HRP's stance that more money=higher standards? Does that mean you consider free projects naturally lesser than you 1/2

Going to answer in part 2; respond here so it shows up in my timeline

If you do manage to become a full time dev, will you still have the time in your schedule to work on an amateur and non profit project like MS?

Yeah, I will.

How important are character artists in the VN dev process actually? In comparison to writing and programming their work might be seen more than what work was actually done on a project. Do you ever feel that way?

Hmm. Within the development process, I'd say that only the writers/editors are absolutely crucial. Music, coding and art can all be done after the fact - they don't have to be concurrent, since it all has to accommodate the script anyway.
As far as overall product goes, character artists are the most important IMO. If you look at a genre like slice-of-life, you have a /lot/ of rehashed plots and ideas (especially when taking JVN's into account too). It's gonna usually be the look of the characters that gets someone to click on your game, rather than a different one. Of course, if your story sucks, then most people will drop it partway in. But just by getting people to even download it in the first place, you've had a minor victory.
tl;dr: come for the art, stay for the story

Saw that you put in your two weeks. Congrats. New job?

Sort of. Hopefully gonna be able to just be a full-time developer here soon. If that doesn't work out then I'll get a different job or go back to school.

What's something that HRP and MS don't have that you wish they did?

Yuri.
More serious answer, world-building. MS takes place in pretty much present times in a real place. HRP has some elements of sci-fi so there's a bit of freedom there, but a lot of it's based upon logical progression rather than just coming up with neat, totally unrealistic ideas. That's one of my favorite things about writing fantasy.

What are your thoughts on Love Despite being shelved? What do you think about Unfinished Circle as a group?

Considering it's been a year since their last blog post, I'm not surprised at all. I hope that the new thing works out for them and that they're able to make a better go of it. Most of the people I know from there are cool folks0

Does having fans for VNs in progress make much of a difference? What's your relation to said fans?

It doesn't really for me, I guess. I don't really know if I could say that either of my projects have a lot of fans though, at least at this point. It is nice to have people react and respond when we post updates or whatever, though.
As for my relationship with them, well... I'm not a celebrity or any shit like that; I'm just some guy on the internet writing a porn game ripoff. Well, two of them. I don't have some superiority complex or whatever. It's nice to talk to people who care about what I'm writing though, and I guess I try to be open. I have a couple fans added on Skype, for instance.

What's the coolest part about HRP?

Noticeable progress gets made and everyone works really well together. There hasn't been a single major disagreement or falling out or anything in... Ever? We've had some setbacks, but never really lost motivation.

How is working with a publisher different than just developing on your own?

Not super different so far beyond having stricter deadlines. It's fortunate that we can go to SP with a lot of questions, though, because they have experience in many of the aspects that we don't (a lot of the legal things, as well as marketing and such, obviously).

Give progress updates pls~

HRP's demo will be done by the end of April. Maybe 2 weeks of beta-testing and feedback and stuff and then that should be out.
Somnova's structure has changed some; should ultimately be smoother. Having a new editor has really revealed a lot of the issues in our script which we're going to try to repair. Demo in December or never.

Can you talk a bit about how the Human Reignition Project came to be published by Sekai Project?

After some team changes and stuff we realized that we had a pretty talented group and a project with nice presentation. We also knew that we couldn't even come close to affording all of the assets that we'd need, and would have to turn to some sort of crowdfunding (which is less stressful than taking out a loan or whatever). We reached out to SP to see if they'd be willing to assist us with promotion and stuff, and the rest is history. Or under NDA. Bit of both.
