Since when am I the punjabi dictionary on ask ??. Aight so jatts are actually indo-scythian tribes that migrated from around Europe to punjab. Each tribe had its own name like gill or sandhu or Brar etc. Jatts are a Martial race not farmers like most people say rather most jatts are in the profession of agriculture that's why people call jatts farmers. Search up the jat regiment the most highly decorated infantry in the Indian army all made up of jatts. Jatt people come from tribes of warriors and legit crazy strong people yo. Ever since scythian tribes migrated to punjab lover half a millenia ago they called themselves jatts. That's why you see punjabi people call themselves jatts. However hindu people and Muslim people and sikh people can all be jatts. The most famous jatt gotras (tribes) are Shergill/Gill (same gotra), Batth, Malhi, Brar, Sandhu, Dhaliwal,Sidhu, Khangura. Some jatt people can even trace their lineage back to indo-greek kingdoms or Iranian kingdoms and especially middle eastern kingdoms. That's the basics of jatts.
