GIRLS AND SKIN TONES.
So we met an aunty at a random gathering only recently, accompanied by her daughter-in-law. She had a darker complexion, probably *too dark* according to the Desi standards. And indeed she was. She was hardly a tone or two lighter than ebony. But wallahi! I couldn't take my eyes off her! The attraction i saw on her face, the beauty of personality i could feel in her, was in no fair girl there! I swear upon Allah, i couldn't stop my eyes from unintentionally searching for her. God knows whatever it was in her personality. Well just as i laid my eyes on her one more time, my ears caught a random lady's voice, apparently showing concern and feeling sheer sorrow on how her complexion was!!! It was a good thing this random lady was an elderly woman, else i would've smacked back at her (only verbally) that how ignorant of a thing was it to say.
You blame and make fun of women, talk behind their back and feel *sorry* for them only because they have *pakka rung*? And then you say "why do they even endorse fair n lovely, and similar sh*t?" Well THIS. IS. WHY! You teach your sons that a woman's beauty is only skin deep. You teach your daughters to *look perfect to the eye*. But none of you, NONE OF YOU teaches them to maybe, you know, read a book? And grow a brain? Develop an impacting personality? Work on the integrity of their character? Be of real use?
Have you ever thought about telling your girls that to be loved for what they are is mightier than to be lusted over for physical beauty? Have you ever thought of teaching your girls that a good man will love her for her fiery soul, surprising brain and unique wit? No. You haven't.
Well for starters, start doing that. And probably one day, when they are old and wrinkly, they won't talk behind an extremely beautiful and accomplished woman's back about how her complexion was. Probably, they'd admire her for what she'd be made of.
Raise them better than how you were raised.
(Think i should change the caption to AUNTIES AND SKIN TONES? Makes more sense. Lol.)
