The English Patient. What a dull, torrid slog of a movie. Didn't give a crap about the characters, it's far too long for as ponderous and lofty as it is, Ralph Fiennes is WAAAAAY overdoing it in the most stock of "tortured soul full of anguish" roles, and it beat out FARGO. Does anyone like or care about this movie now? Do people even remember it exists? No. Guess which movie people actually like and remember?

If you're going to try and "gotcha" me for calling out sexism in your dumb comic movie, you're going to have to do a lot better than that, asshole. Kill la Kill has some fanservice shots that are a little gross, yes. It also has a large cast of female characters with widely varying personality traits, relationships between them and motivations, so I think that more than makes up for it. GotG is just the same old virgins n' whores crap we've seen a million times before with no interesting motivations or personalities for any of its female characters.

Yes, very much. Gravity Falls is about on par with Steven Universe in terms of being cute, full of characters I care about and really funny, imho.

what are thoughts on the debate of sexism in Gotg? namely the three major points of quill's mom and that random girl in the prologue, gamora's treatment, and the slave girl.
Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy is sexist. It is sexist in a way that is old as the hills and a lot of other works are the same way (even works I like). It's very virgins n' whores-y, and while it didn't turn me off the film entirely, it really did keep me from enjoying large portions of it. I was pretty disappointed with that, too, since while Marvel films have been pretty guilty of that in the past, they seemed to be getting away from it at least a little. I was particularly dissatisfied with Gamora's character (or rather, lack thereof). You have a female character played by a high-profile WoC actress whose character has strong ties to the central antagonist and a potentially interesting backstory, and then you give her nothing to do but kick people/quip in a Strong Independent Woman™ fashion, get saved a few times, and bitch at her not-sister for reasons that are never expanded upon? That's not just sexism, that's lazy shitty character writing. If you can't think of any place for women in your film other than meek, submissive sexpots who will inevitably be disposed of or icy quippy sexpots who will inevitably need saving (Glenn Close's doesn't count, she's just there to spout exposition), you seriously need to re-examine yourself and your beliefs.
