Ask @scantzor:

Hey man, whats next for the team? Any tournaments ahead? Hope they stay together as well as you and maintain their form last MPGL. it worked wonders for them now that Meracle is drafting. Btw, where are you going? As well as Meracle as i see he is not in PH right now. Anyway more power man!

Just vacation since there's not a lot of tournaments for us in the near future. However we do have one more small tournament in December which isn't yet announced.

How would you rank best team of the year ? Is it all up to TI ? Lets say OG would have won 1 more major or 2 would they have been better than Wings ?

Really depends what you mean by best. Wings were for sure the most impressive team of the year. They weren't necessarily the most consistent throughout the entire year though. I'm not personally that interested in ranking by year because Dota moves much faster than traditional sports that do. We can more meaningfully talk about the best team of each major season I think.

It seems more video or written content is avaiable in other esports like lol sc2 and cs:go than in dota2. Like talk shows written analyst and opinion pieces. Do you agree with that and do you have any reasons why is it like that ?

It's definitely true. I think the bottom line is that the Dota audience doesn't show meaningful enough support for good content and that leads to people with money being less willing to spend it on Dota content. I've lost track of the number of times big money has tried to invest in Dota content only to scrap their plans within a year after failing to successfully monetize

Who's opinions do you find interesting but maybe you dont agree in dota ? What is your top 5 people to follow in twitter if you are interested in dota2 pro scene ?

Interesting questions. Def don't have an answer to either off the top of my head but I'll try do my best to answer.
I guess people with interesting opinions who I nonetheless regularly disagree with would be like Gorgon, Nahaz, sometimes Swindlezz or Noxville tho I often agree with those two tbh.
The second part is actually harder because I feel everyone does their own thing on twitter so it depends what exactly you're after. Even tho he doesn't only do Dota I'd say redeye is an excellent person to follow in this space more broadly speaking. You should probably follow noxville too because nobody else in Dota does anything close to what he does. LD doesn't tweet that often but when he does he usually has sensible stuff to say and it's normally the big issues he comments on. Aui and Fluff are players who share great content from time to time. Similar for Mad. CaitMcGee you should follow for your health and because she's awesome. Godz and Swindlezz are both unafraid to share their opinions even when they aren't popular so that's always useful. Vykromond is pretty great when he's active. I dunno. Tough question tbh

What do you think about valve no releasing group stages info by now ?

It's pretty awful. I hope in the near future they will get better at stuff like this. They have gotten better at some stuff lately like being more consistent inn invite criteria and sharing event details about the next majors in advance so I'm hopeful that sharing tournament formats in advance is somewhere on the list of things they can improve soon.

I saw your tweet earlier about adfinem being "on the rise". What team in Dota2's history do you think went from tier-2/3 to tier-1 the most quickly? In my opinion it was the Kaipi roster with EE, bone7, pieliedie, sing, and aui2000, with cwm and arteezy spending a bit of time on the roster as well.

Tough to say. Some would probably argue CDEC - I think it's arguable but I think that probably underrates them coming into TI5. Could make a similar case for MVP going into TI5 but again I'm not totally convinced personally.
Absolute Legends came out of relative obscurity to be considered best in the world for a few months before going back to obscurity shortly after. Can't remember the year or exact roster off the top of my head but should be easy to track down.
Maybe even Empire right after they replaced Scandal with Resolut1on, who went from definitely tier 2 to probably the best in the world for a month or two, at least online.

Do u believe marijuana to have possible benefits for pro players? Considering its way of calming down people and promoting creativity, it could IMO clearly benefit players who are on tilt or simply too singleminded, just for example. With Vaporizers you can also manage what kind of high you want.

Lol, I mean assuming you could navigate the legality issue somehow, it's an interesting suggestion. Obviously Dota players work in high stress environments so things that have a calming effect could be useful to them. I suspect there are numerous other ways to work on this goal though :D

What do you think the "systematic problems" in the Chinese Dota scene are?

James Baker
Well for one thing there's the screwed up financial incentives. For a long time now players have been able to make a lot more money streaming than playing competitively. So even many of those in competitive teams have incentive to focus more on their personal streams than their teams while some others lose motivation to compete and just focus on streaming. Something similar is the case with casting, where many top players can make more (and safer) money by just casting.
There used to be an issue about not prioritising development enough, and being obsessed with the 'old guard' but actually I think that's over-emphasised these days and the Chinese scene is doing really well to develop new talent.
Honestly I'm not sure what the answer is here - like I'm more sure the scene has some systemic problems than I am of what they are entirely. The comment I made that you're responding to here was more about the fact that China's problems lately hasn't been about not having good enough players/teams IMO. So mixing up players doesn't really address whatever the problems are, not directly anyway.

Why didn't you reduce EG's accomplishments at Ti5 by saying they only won TI5 because of Bulba? Doesn't fit your narrative well?

1. To the best of my knowledge, I've never publicly commented at all on why I think EG won TI5. So I'm pretty sure you've invented some position in your mind for me.
2. That said, I thought EG was the strongest team going into TI, well before they hired Bulba. I thought for most of the TI4-TI5 season they looked strongest.
3. However, it is uncontroversially true that Bulba played a huge role in their TI5 victory. I can't say how much over all, but I'm completely sure he played a significant role in their winning the grand final.
4. How long before you realise that it's you and not me that is stubbornly defending a bias here?
