Do you believe in religion?

First, i think it's only fair i give some background on my experience with religion. I wasn't raised to be religious but my mother was raised Jewish and my father Christian. instead of a regular church my parents took me to Unitarian church a lot, which is more of a free and respectful search for truth and meaning.
So i pretty much grew up with free reign to choose whatever spiritual path i wanted to. As i grew and learned more about the specifics of Christianity, Judaism, and Mormonism, I found flaws in every one that I saw as deal breakers. Some of the things they teach and believe are so outrageous to me. So I don't believe in large-scale religion. I think religion can do so many great things for people in need, though. I've found that smaller churches become more of a community than a place of worship, and it helps so many people in their lives. And while I think it's kind of silly that a lot of people are only kind and caring to others because they think that'll get them to heaven, they're still being kind and caring.
An example of what I love about religion is when the Rolling Hills kids went to Mexico over Spring Break. I don't care what God you do or do not pray to, they were helping people in need, and I have nothing but respect for that.
All in all the only reason religion is so popular because it offers a clear explanation as to the creation of our world and the meaning of our lives. If someone finds clarity and purpose through religion, that's awesome. Good for them. I don't believe in anything, and I'm still looking for that clarity and purpose, so who am I to criticize someone else for finding what we all truly want.

How much do you think the government should be involved in the economy and have government run businesses?

There really is no simple answer to this, so i'll give it my best shot. We have a capitalistic economy, or at least we say we are. The crux of capitalism is the idea of profit motive. You work harder than everyone else and you'll make more money. The problem is that we can't have a completely capitalistic society. If we were truly capitalistic, we'd have programs that we take for granted, such as the mail, police, and K-12 education as strictly privatized. Government involvement in business and the economy is necessary to avoid class division that we haven't seen since the Great Depression. Keep in mind it was Coolidge and Hoover's lack of involvement in business and economy that led to the Stock Market Crash of 1929, and Roosevelt's New Deal that helped us get back on our feet was, simply put, the government involving themselves.

Who is someone you wish you had never met?

Nobody. There are plenty of friendships/relationships I've had that ended ugly, and i regret how they ended and often regret the friendship/relationship as a whole. But in retrospect every person who has caused me pain or misery has helped shape the person I am today, and I know I'm a lot better off.

My last tweet was inspired by you cutie (;

Austin.
I could tell cutie ;) But in all seriousness I have nothing but respect for ya man, don't change a thing about yourself. Except for your football allegiances. Chargers fans are always accepting recruits

Hey man this is Anthony Zuccaro aka externaljew, you are smart and funny keep doing what you do

Hahaha thank you man I appreciate it. You're absolutely hilarious and seem like a great guy, so it means a lot

How do we fix out abused and raped well fare system?

Great question and I'm honored you want my opinion. With that said, it's a tough thing to really fix. Here's my take:
I think the most important thing in repairing our welfare system is education. Public K-12 education is such a joke in this country. Those who receive poor education are those who usually end up needing welfare to support themselves. We need to allocate more money towards overhauling the public education in poverty stricken areas. We need to spend less money on things like defense and focus more funding on education, because it's a joke.
That would help greatly, but it won't solve the poverty problem. We will still have the poor who need assistance. So a few smaller things that are necessary:
1. Welfare should be limited to basic needs, without allowing for the money to change hands or be used on unnecessary items.
2. Contraception should be available for no cost.
3. Mandatory drug tests for anyone on assistance.
I could name a dozen more, but those are a few I see as important. I find it funny how conservatives call themselves generous but don't want to redistribute money to the poor. The trickle down effect is a lie and not pragmatic. So there's my two cents.

If you were going to die at midnight, what would you be doing at 11:45pm?

Probably spending time with my family, because they're the only people who have been with me through all my trials and tribulations. Wouldn't be doing anything special, just probably sitting at the table talking about whatever comes to mind, or maybe playing a board game.

What are your religious beliefs, if you have any

I guess I lean towards atheist more than anything, but I'm still learning more and finding myself spiritually. I don't believe in any of the common religions out there, and deism is the only plausible explanation for a higher power. I prefer to learn about as many religions as possible before I really commit myself, but I don't see myself believing in a higher power anytime soon. Nothing wrong if you do though, to each his/her own. I don't like when non-secular people criticize atheists though. I'm respectful of every faith and belief until they disrespect my lack of belief

Who is the last girl that you liked?

Going straight for the jugular I see. Well since I've graduated i don't really mind saying. There a lot of girls that I "like" for a brief period of time, but don't really know them that well or actually have any feelings for them. But the most recent girl I really had feelings for was this girl Sarah in my English class senior year. I think she liked me back, but I did something (I don't know what) to mess it up and we haven't talked since New Year's. I don't really regret that whatever we had ended as much as i regret how it ended, with both of us having too much pride to really talk to one another

I want to go to chipotle with you after move-in day! You better know who this is.

Aye Eli we're definitely going to Cholt bro. Hey so I'm gonna call in to the show this week with some topics. Firstly I'm gonna talk about how the Chargers should change their uniform back to the powder blue every game, home and away. Second we'll talk about this season for PAC-12 football, and third we can talk about how badly Oak Ridge dominates Pondo in every sport.

Why didn't you go to or junior year? Where did you go

I had a lot of problems in my life that'd I'd prefer not to go into much detail with, and the large school atmosphere of Oak Ridge was way too overwhelming for me. I ended up bouncing around a little bit. I went to Army and Navy Academy in San Diego for a while, but I got homesick so I came back to EDH and went to a charter school for the rest of the year. I kicked ass junior year, got my life in order, and came back to OR for senior year. Glad to say I'm a graduate of Oak Ridge High School

I agree fully with you on your opinion on atlas shrugged. What are your views on objectivism? Her novel The Fountainhead definitely does a phenomenal job of expressing the idea if you ever have any interest in reading that

I really want to read that book too but haven't gotten around to it. Objectivism makes a lot of sense for me in the sense that I do believe that every man's (and woman's to be politically correct) highest ambition is to find true happiness. You can compare it to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in that happiness is a direct result of self-actualization.
I will check out the book sometime soon, thank you very much!!

Have you read any of Ayn Rand's novels?

Haha I was waiting for someone to ask this. Yes, I've read Atlas Shrugged, and done further research on her idea of Objectivism. It's an interesting concept. Atlas Shrugged was one of those books that I didn't really enjoy, but it was thought provoking. Really long though.

Why don't you want to go to ASU?

Who said I don't want to go to ASU? I'll be the first to admit that I'm kind of hesitant to tell people where I'm going because of its reputation, and how easy it is to be accepted to most of its programs. But the journalism school has very high standards, and for what i want (sports journalism), ASU really can't be beat.

You're one of the only people that I have seen who expresses their views but doesn't degrade others through that. I really respect that, keep it up

That's the highest compliment I've received. Thank you

Where are you going to school next year?

I'm going to Arizona State to study journalism and mass communication. The school as a whole isn't very prestigious, but the journalism school is easily top-5 in the country, so I'm excited for what it will offer me. And I'll be living at the Downtown Phoenix campus, so I'll be right in the heart of one of the largest media markets in the country, which is perfect for what I'm going into

Coolest girls at Oak Ridge?

I didn't know nearly enough underclassmen to give a full list, but my sister is my favorite person at Oak Ridge.......but Maggie, Haley, Aishani, and Ryan are all pretty cool to name a few. I'm sure I'm missing a ton, there are lot of cool people at OR

whats youre novel going to be about?

Not sure yet. I've been writing short stories for years, and I think it'd be cool to adapt one of them to a novel. Short stories don't require much of an actual idea, just a couple thousand words, but novels require a fully thought out and clear concept. So for the past few days I've been going through my old stories, and narrowing down which ones i think would make a good novel. While I haven't decided yet, a story I wrote freshman year about a man in an insane asylum is one that I think would be fun to write as a novel. But I haven't made up my mind yet

You're real nice guy and easy to talk to. It was nice getting to know you a little throughout the year. You'll do great things at ASU, but make sure you bring a fan I heard it gets pretty hot there. And I'm sorry that you're a Chargers fan. Hopefully someday they'll get good. -AC

Thanks Chang. I think you're really funny and I respect you a ton. Keep it up man you've got great things ahead of you. And goooooooo Chargers
