8 weeks of basic course is stay in. The 12 weeks course is office hours.

You'll have to go through normal basic course training for 8 weeks. You'll get your red beret after that (wohoo)!! Then since you're gonna be a regular, you need to go through another course that's 12 weeks long.
Once all that is done you'll be sent to a troop (there's 8 different troops). 1 day work (24 hours shift) 2 days off. Throughout your time in SOC being fit is a must hahaha. Please don't go there if you cant do 12 pullups. Best if you can do 20.
