Scientists say that cockroach milk is 3 times more nutritious than cow's milk.'., An international team of scientists sequenced a protein crystal located in the midgut of cockroaches in 2016. The reason?

It's more than four times as nutritious as cow's milk and the researchers think it could be the key to feeding our growing population in the future.

Although most cockroaches don't actually produce milk, Diploptera punctate, which is the only known cockroach to give birth to live young, has been shown to pump out a type of "milk" containing protein crystals to feed its babies.

The fact that an insect produces milk is pretty fascinating – but what fascinated researchers is the fact that a single one of these protein crystals contains more than three times the amount of energy found in an equivalent amount of buffalo milk (which is also higher in calories than regular cow's milk).

Clearly milking a cockroach isn't the most feasible option, so an international team of scientists headed by researchers from the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in India decided to sequence the genes responsible for producing the milk protein crystals to see if they could somehow replicate them in the lab.⁠

🦗 "The crystals are like a complete food - they have proteins, fats, and sugars. If you look into the protein sequences, they have all the essential amino acids," said Sanchari Banerjee, one of the team, in an interview with the Times of India back in 2016.

Not only is the milk a dense source of calories and nutrients, but it's also time-released.

As the protein in the milk is digested, the crystal releases more protein at an equivalent rate to continue the digestion.

I'm on a 3rd shift schedule, but have a routine: dishes, wipe down the counters, feed the animals breakfast, take out the trash (if needed). I don't mind doing dishes, so it's actually a pretty good way for me to wind down. It takes me 30 minutes at most to do these things and it helps me feel like I've accomplished something after a lazy day.
I think we are just an extremely lucky pairing. We are both a bit introverted and just get on very well together. There is no other person I would rather spend time with. Together 20 plus years and in all that time I think we have had maybe 5-6 arguments, not one of them serious. The whole soulmate thing is a huge cliche but I think that's genuinely what we are.
I just love going for a walk with atmospheric music in my earphones when it gets dark outside. Especially, when it is winter and a foggy evening.
Go for a walk! The weather's getting nicer ... if your neighbourhood doesn't excite you, you can drive, bike or transit to somewhere. It's free - and even if there are lots of people/shops where you walk, you don't have to go in. Just walk around till you're tired of it, and go home. Try board games, with friends. If you play at their house, you're getting out of yours. Similarly, just going to someone's house for dinner can be a change, and a bit of socializing. Since it's summer, also find out about free activities in your area. We have free movies playing in the park, and other free events through the summer.
Watching YouTube. Masturbating. Browsing reddit. Pretend to make goals for myself and become a normal, wholesome person with healthy hobbies. Fantasize about waking up in the morning and getting a nice, big breakfast and some coffee, and enjoy walking through the park across the street while the air is still cold and few people are out. Though I never follow through.
Here's a list of the things that keep me occupied at night: Video games, movies, tv shows, documentaries, reddit, just thinking in general, cooking, writing whether it be poetry or just my thoughts/feelings, smoking, drinking, fantasizing, listening to music, reading, wrap crystals in wire so they can be worn, find new hobbies like programming or something of the sort, drawing, talking to people, and trying to fall asleep. Other people like to work out at night and hit the gym but thats not my thing to do.
Going to the supermarket. I live in an area densely populated enough that during the day there is always activity (cars coming and going etc). The night time is still and peaceful. I get to enjoy the cool night air as I walk there. Once inside, there's no screaming kids, nobody blocking the god damn isles.

Видела, что у многих выпал именно этот результат, что довольно странно. Да и кто с ним не согласится? Всем ведь нравится считать себя справедливыми и объективными, хоть и зачастую это далеко не так)

⊹ На самом деле, ожидала получить в результате "чувствительная фиалка", однако, видимо, пора мне и в этом отрываться от прежнего образа.

Объясню:
• На протяжении многих прошлых лет я ассоциировала себя именно с фиалками.
Познакомилась с этими цветами в самом раннем детстве (судя по всему, ещё когда одна из моих бабушек была здесь, на земле), года в 4-5. Очень любила их, но позже по каким-то причинам мы их отдали.
• Затем, в уже более сознательном возрасте, отметила для себя, что самый любимый цвет – фиолетовый. Сначала не понимала, почему именно, но спустя время осознала, что он полностью отражал мой характер.
• Далее – наткнулась на информацию, что по какому-то там цветочному гороскопу являюсь "фиалкой".
• Название игрового тоже не случайно: Any – часть предыдущего ника в соцсетях, англоязычная краткая форма моего имени; violet – помимо "фиолетового цвета" это слово слегка в иной форме имеет значение "скрипка" (один из инструментов, чьё звучание мне нравится) и, собственно, "фиалка", от которого произошло это слово и часть названия; crystals – некоторое время была на них помешана, любила всякие разные камни и кристаллы. [Да, "фиалковые кристаллы" звучит странно, но когда-то в этом был заложен глубокий смысл, ахах]
• Классе в 6 было задание сделать книжку о любом цветке. Что я выбрала? Именно, фиалки.

⊹ Любимых цветов как таковых у меня нет. Я люблю цветы, прочие растения и природу в целом. И по факту, любить и любоваться – это не одно и то же. Поэтому предпочитаю выращивать цветы самостоятельно, нежели покупать срезанные, что при лучших условиях простоят не больше недели.

I think I already kind of ranted about how I'd really like to write some kind of fantasy setting but I just can't because I don't want to just throw in some magic for the sake of it so I'll just go more into detail with what I want to write.
I'm really interested in urban fantasy stories. You know, that kind of fantasy au that is set in a modern world with technology and everything but there are witches. Witches that have small hidden shops in downtown alleys where they sell magic crystals and potions and small trinkets and stuff like that to curious customers who stumble through their doors. A world where magic is everywhere, out in the open and yet hidden.
The thing is that I love this idea a little too much. There is so much I want to do, I don't even know where to begin. And I'd want it to be perfect. I'd want every little detail to be perfectly thought out. I would have to do hours of research on witchcraft and energy crystals and tarot cards and everything else I want to put in this story and honestly, I can't quite handle this.
But I swear, one day I will write my epic urban fantasy story. One day I will tell you that story about Jin offering fake tarot card readings to ordinary people and selling actual magic in the back of his shop to special customers only and it will be amazing!
(and until then read "you say witch like it's a bad thing" by Curionenene aka the urban fantasy story I needed so desperately)
