If there could be an answer to just one question that, if responded in one way or another, would deeply affect, confirm or change the way u think, behave and live for the rest of ur life, what would be that question?

nourabdoun5642’s Profile Photo~N.O.U.R~
"One Question" by Alex
I would ask God to explain the meaning and purpose of our human existence. The obvious question would be:
Why do we exist? (but that is my secondary question)
Contained within that question I would want to understand why my God, who is all powerful, all knowing and the creator of everything that exists, would do the following:
Why would my God create the human species with free will, knowing that this gift of free will would result in War, poverty, racism, hatred, envy, suffering, death and the destruction of planet earth? Why? It doesn't make any sense.
Let's assume that God loves us so much that he gave us free will to show us his infinite love, right? It still doesn't make any sense because God is allowing humans to willfully destroy God's very creation. I am an engineer by trade and so I view the human as a machine. When I observe this machine I conclude that this machine is defective and needs to be repaired, right? As an engineer, I want to evaluate the "Free Will" circuitry, and modify it in such a way that war and self destruction are not possible. I would would redesign the human machine to automatically enter an emergency mode where it would temporarily shutdown until the problem could be corrected. In my opinion, Free Will only works when people make well reasoned and informed decisions that do not destroy, but as we ALL know, most of the problems caused by humanity are a direct result of "Free Will" and the inability or unwillingness to make rational and well informed decisions.
So here is my question for God:
What is the point of our earthly existence, if Free Will ensures our self destruction and the elimination of the human species?

What kind of approach do you usually take when you start at a new workplace? 💼 (My first day as an intern is tomorrow)

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
I will answer this question based upon my 40+ years working as a Senior Network Engineer for a variety of fortune 500 companies, banks and state government. Whenever I started a new job there were always employees excited for the additional help and those employees who were resentful either because I got the job they applied for or perhaps one of their friends applied for and lost. It's a competitive world so do not be naive or gullible.
1. Allies and Enemies - Determine as quickly as possible who your allies are while also understanding who your opposition is.
2. Mentor - Try to identify a mentor who will advise you, guide you, answer your questions and defend you when necessary. This is usually a senior employee with 10+ years experience within that organization.
3. Job Description - Learn the specific requirements of your job description and the do's and don't of the workplace environment.
4. Opposition - DO NOT underestimate your opposition and the problems that they WILL cause you because of envy, resentment and a negative attitudes. I encountered opposition in every job I have ever had, even as a minimum wage custodian.
5. Customer - Focus on the customer. Every job has a customer. Understand who your customers are and what their needs are and then work hard to satisfy the customers needs. In well run organizations, customer service is always #1 priority.
6. Marketing - Pay attention to the products your business produces. Understand the marketplace and what the corporate business objectives are. Understanding the business will help you to become a contributor and productive member of the team and will also provide you with job security because you will intuitively know when there will be a reduction in the workforce (layoffs) or when new technologies are planned to be designed, manufactured and marketed.
7. Communication - In addition to being talented and competent at what you do for work, it is imperative to be able to communicate well (written and verbal) using correct syntax and gramma while making recommendations, providing project updates or just simply getting along with co-workers.
Some would argue that effective communication skills are more important than talent and will lead to greater recognition and advancement than those employees who only have talent but possess poor communication skills or are difficult to work with.
Good Luck!

Do you ever want a relationship and then think about your past shitty ones then change your mind?

Before I got married, I absolutely avoided dating the opposite sex for that very reason of avoiding shitty relationships. From age 20 until age 25 when I got married, I did not get involved in any meaningful relationships with women because I was afraid that I would get hurt again. For me, the pain and suffering of being manipulated and deceived, wasn't worth my time or effort. So I avoided it like one avoids cancer.
I participated in activities that I enjoyed (music, tennis, chess, 5k road races, traveling) or activities that developed my skill set to prepare for a successful career as an engineer and musician. To that end, I performed with bands, earned two degrees (music and engineering), and worked with the developmentally delayed, where I met my wife. After my first and only girlfriend and I broke up, I decided to try something different. Instead of worrying about dating or falling in love, I simply lived my life enjoying every moment while also hanging out with my male friends who loved to compete, laugh and have a good time. Occasionally family and friends would question me about my sexuality, but I chose to ignore their rude comments because I knew that eventually I would meet the woman I was destined to meet, which is exactly what happened. My future wife was also working for the department of mental health as a pool supervisor and she was also a recent college graduate. The great thing about meeting her was that I was able to observe her, before we dated, working with young adults with severe handicaps and I could see that she was a kind, compassionate and loving person who actually cared about people and was not into playing head games, cheating or basically being a horrid person who would intentionally break my heart. This woman became my loyal confidant, supporter and best friend.
I do not want to bore you with all of the details of our relationship, but suffice it to say that the decision I made at age 20 to simply live my life and not worry about people and events that I cannot control, was the best decision I ever made. Why? Because it forced me to focus on what is important in life: "living each moment to the fullest and not worry about the future or live in the past"

Do you think to “hate” someone is bad? (With clear justifiable reasoning)

Not at all. Hatred is a basic human emotion. We can't legislate it away, social engineer it out of existence or pretend that it doesn't exist. There are viable alternatives to confronting hate *IF* there is a genuine desire to do so. Unfortunately, it remains prevalent because it can be easily exploited and used to sow division, erode civility and preserve established interests. Hatred isn't the problem - not on a macro / societal scale or on a micro / personal level. The focus must be on the underlying issues that perpetuate / encourage it. Only when we are able to evaluate the unique factors behind a particular occurrence and make an honest assessment of the dynamics involved, can we hope to reach a reasonable conclusion and answer your question - which I hate to admit, rarely occurs. ;-)

Empathy is a foreign word for you, hm?

I don't think empathy is necessary to make positive improvements in society. I think it just makes me unbiased and logical. I think people probably like me, because I see people regularly. It's hard to tell though.
I don't know why someone would ask to be around me if they didn't want to be around me.
In my case I can draw expected empathetic responses from prevous social interactions. It's pretty easy too, because people are very predictable at their core and are very needy.
I will normally let the other person divulge as much information as I can take in to formulate and engineer an interaction. It's not always for self-gain. Sometimes it may be assisting in the removal of ones ego, or driving a conversation down a more logical less emotional path.

Which school year was your best?

Xhris36710’s Profile PhotoXhris
My favorite year in school was when i was 5! My teacher (who was my neighbor) and i started journaling. I loved her 🐄 themed room and house! She encouraged my creativity. We had themed weeks for the letters of the alphabet. I was in a special group because I could read. At that age, recess was my favorite subject because i loved playgrounds! I even wanted to be a playground engineer and would study playground equipment catalogs.

What kind of person are you?

I am a discreet and respectful person of your privacy so I expect the same in return. I'm the kind of person who gets to the cinema more than an hour before showtime. I get to the airport 5 hours before a flight. I keep extra socks, underwear, first aid supplies, chargers, and rain gear in my backpack at all times. I plan everything obsessively because I'm always convinced everything will go wrong and I must be prepared for everything. It sucks.
I'm the type of person that everyone assumes is an extrovert - I'm totally an introvert. I won't say anything behind your back that i won't say to your face- and at times that has been harsh for people - though they seem to like my honesty. I'm that guy who, when in my own little world, looks like he wants to kill everything. But as soon as you engage me in conversation, I am nice and chipper almost to the point of being creepy. I've been told I am too smiley too quick.
I come off as a go lucky type of guy , my life motto is " just smile and wave " . I'm a restless person , I'm studious ( mechanical engineer here ) , hardworking and concerned about my future . But I know where I'm heading towards , what my goals are, and more importantly that I'm content with my life . I'm 23 years old , and I just want to help others .That strange weird girl with a guy mentality and full of perverted humor. I've been called a guy before for my interest in video games, majoring in computer engineering, comics/manga, and my preference for dark beer. But I still fucking love dresses.
The kind of person that everyone thinks is happy and has a great life, makes jokes, looks good, while on the inside I want to run away from home and feel depressed for no reason i can find. I'm rather introvert, I like video games, mangas and animes. I love my cats. I'm usually rather quiet but can become giggly when in the right company.
I act cold and mean but in reality I'm just insecure and cannot interact with people properly.
I am weird as fuck. Often say things that lead to awkwardness on both sides. Then try to backtrack on what I already said, leading to more awkwardness. Then there is an awkwardness eruption when both sides are stumped as to what to say to end the interaction. And so I often avoid talking altogether, or I stick to very general subjects. Once things start getting personal, the awkwardness kicks in for me, and once it kicks in for me, the other person picks up on it and likely feels awkward. Then a vicious cycle entrenches itself with tension building on both sides.
I'm a huge pushover. I let people walk all over me and then I act like nothing is wrong. I bottle up anger and never tell them how I feel. Fucking hate it. I'm also a people pleaser, and am extroverted around my friends, but very shy when it comes to meeting new people.

💢How many times a week do you experience "attention deficiency"? xD

Ambyrose21’s Profile PhotoRose
I wonder how Sigmund Freud would answer this question?
My pride would claim never, but the fact that I spend (waste) time posting on social networks would indicate otherwise, right? This is a difficult question to answer honestly so I will need to apply some reverse engineering. What would be my reaction if I posted a poem or reflection on askfm without any response? I would probably disable my account. So this indicates that I suffer from some form of attention deficiency. If true, then I estimate I am spending between 14 and 28 hours per week seeking attention. How pathetic is that? Not a statistic I would want on my resume.
Example of proposed resume:
Dear Employer,
I am submitting my resume for your consideration. I have several degrees and over 30 years experience as a network engineer. For hobbies, I write and post poems and reflections onto social networks where nobody reads my work. But I am persistent and I never give up. Even after several followers have accused me of being an attention seeker, I still continue to write hoping that one day someone will read one of my poems. Just one person....anyone...it doesn't matter. :)
I look forward to interviewing for your Network Engineering position. I believe that the fact that I suffer from "attention deficiency" will be an asset to your team for the following reasons:
- Meetings: during meetings I will suck all of the oxygen out of the room with my inane questions.
- Customer Service: I will dot the I's and cross the T's to ensure customer satisfaction. And I promise that interactions with each customer that should only last 5 minutes will last a minimum of one hour to guarantee 24x7 customer satisfaction along with my insatiable need for "attention."
- Communication: No worries there. Once I start talking everyone in the room will leave in disgust; but it will contribute to my eternal quest for attention.
Gotta love those folks on the internet who spend their entire life seeking attention, right?

My story part 1 So I fell in love with someone online but after 20 days he left me as he was in complex that he wasn't good enough for me and I deserve better. Actually he was a drug addict and wasn't well educated like me as I am becoming a Doctor.

if you are a doctor or engineer does this imply on you that you are well educated ?? degree doesn't define who you really are . Few days back i saw a doctor disrespecting a legend on Air ( So called well educated people ✌). Their are so many things which combines and make a person well educated. Etiquettes, Commitment, morality, respect etc.
Read and write your course book doesn't make you well educated that only gives you the way to earn (doc or engg. etc) .you have to respect and imply moral values in your life as well ...
#Don't mind
# Change your mind🤣🙂

Everyone has a house of their dreams, what does your dream house look like?

Here is my dream house that I designed and had built in the spring of 2005. It sits on 2 acres of land with 150ft of lake frontage on Bow Lake located in Strafford New Hampshire. As a young boy I use to vacation on Little Sebago Lake in Grey, Maine. Those were the most memorable years of my youth and once I graduated from various colleges and began earning money as a Network Engineer I decided to build my dream house on a lake in New Hampshire.

Is there a teacher, who has inspired you during your school years?

Ms. Holmes who taught English during my senior year in high school. If it were not for Ms. Holmes and her strict standards and attention to detail, plus her incredible wealth of knowledge and command of the English language and English literature, I would not have had the skills required to earn two degrees or attain the success I achieved in High Tech as a Network Engineer and Technical Instructor/Course developer.
THANK YOU, Ms. Holmes!

Oh that’s cool! Even we did all that on bread board, although electronics part is not my major subject, but logic part is :)

PulkitSharma62’s Profile PhotoThe Watcher
Although I studied Electronic Engineering, which included both analog and digital, it is also valuable to understand digital logic as a Software Engineer or a Network Engineer. Before retiring, I worked as a Network Engineer for 40 years. During that time I had to learn various systems i.e. routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, network management, network analyzers, modems, multiplexers, etc. These systems all had operating systems and a user interface that required some understanding of digital logic. After all, if I am taking a statistical reading of network performance or perhaps configuring an access list on a Cisco router or creating a rule within my firewall, I must understand digital logic to comprehend how the variables and instructions I am coding affect the input/output and the intended result/behavior.

How old were you when 9/11 happened?

"911" by Nico
On September 11, 2001, I was working as a Network Engineer for the State of New Hampshire. I was old enough to know right from wrong and I understood that evil existed in our world.
Growing up I was taught that when good people do nothing, evil wins. And so, I had the presence of mind to comprehend that evil was not some fantasy invented by religion as a mechanism to manipulate and control people. The simple fact is this i.e. evil does exist! History has proven the existence of evil, time and time again. Therefore evil is not a fantasy or something that is fake as some propose.
The real question is this: Why does evil exist?
I believe that the primary cause of evil is greed, and the desire by some to manipulate, deceive and control people, places and things, in order to enrich themselves and accumulate power at the expense of other people.

Hello Alexander. Wow I am in awe of your guitar collection. Thank you very much for sharing it. Having a collection like that I am sure you play great. I love Telecasters. I have to admit, I'm not a good guitar player and I don´t know much about amps or effects but I´m a good listener (+)

James, it is true that I have been playing since I was 10 years old and the fact is that I should be a much better musician than I am; but, I made a decision after obtaining a degree in music to pursue a career as a network engineer to provide for my family. The good news is that my son Shawn (who plays sax) is far more accomplished as a musician than I am. In fact, my best friend Matt who recently died, was another tremendous musician (pianist).

(+) and I understand what you´re telling me about the quality of sound and comparision. I sincerely hope you can solve the problem with the sound quality in the church you play. Thank you again and sorry if my english is not good (I´m from Spain) Kindest regards

StainTheRocker’s Profile PhotoStain Silmarillion (James)
James, no te preocupes.
James, don't worry. I speak English and use a translator. As a musician, it always bothers me when the recording or what the audience hears suffers from degraded sound quality from what I hear on my headphones. In the old days, before direct out, we had amps on stage and we could hear ourselves, but not necessarily the instruments on the other side of the stage. So it has always been the goal to create the "perfect" sound on stage and then convey that exact sound to the audience and the recorded tracks. It takes a great sound engineer with excellent hearing and a quality audio feel (tone, balance, EQ, and effects) to reproduce and amplify sound accurately.

Sa mga AskFM users from the Philippines, ako lang ba ang need gumamit ng VPN para maka login dito sa Ask??? If I don't use VPN, nag e-error ang login page kahit may internet naman ako. Pero pag nag VPN ako, nakaka log in. Ang problema lang ng VPN is walang Philippines sa choices.

What error message are you receiving?
It might be that askfm is blocking your source ip address on their firewall. Do you know if anyone else from the Philippines who uses a similar network address is experiencing similar problems?
When I worked for the State of New Hampshire as a Network Engineer our network would frequently receive "denial of service" attacks where I would identify and block either the specific source ip address or an entire block of ip addresses. I also identified and blocked ranges of addresses for web sites hosting pornography and other inappropriate material.
If askfm is blocking a range of ip addresses originating from the Philippines, it is probably because these addresses generate data traffic that violate their terms of agreement and network security protocol.

James is fine! Look at that! It seems like a rockstar wall LOL I really appreciate your words so thanks , my friend. I hope your wife allows you to hang the guitars hahaha I´m very sure your living room will look very cool with that. What guitars do you have? If I can ask

StainTheRocker’s Profile PhotoStain Silmarillion (James)
Good morning James. The attached photo shows my collection of guitars. I haven't purchased a guitar in some time because I have what I need to perform. However, I do want to get some recording software at some point so I can compose and improve my playing. My music has taken a back seat due to events I have no control over but very soon I am going to rededicate myself to what I am passionate about....music.
List of guitars and amps:
- Fender Stratocaster
- Fender Telecaster (Nashville model)
- Ibanez AS153
- D-Angelico New Yorker
- Taylor Acoustic 410RCE
- Taylor 414CeN Nylon
Fender Precision bass
Fender banjo
Amps:
Messa Boogie Mark III
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Dean Markley Ultra Sound (for acoustics)
Gallien Krueger MB115K (bass)
Effects:
- Boss ME70
- Wampler Hot Wired Over Drive (Brent Mason design)
- Boss AD-10 acoustic preamp
My equipment is pretty basic, but it does the job and allows me to create the sound I want. Most of my guitars have been modified with hand wound pickups, tuning keys that actually function properly, nuts that do not stick and bridges that provide accurate intonation.
The other thing is that I do not like to spend much time with effects because it takes away from what I love most which is actually playing. So I use delay, reverb, chorus, compression (when necessary) and overdrive. I get a handful of different sounds which is not much but it is enough for my playing style. When I practice I am very lazy and mostly use my acoustics without any amps. In fact, my fender guitars are mostly used for live performances only.
Amplification is where it really gets strange. At one church I play at they do not allow amps on stage so everything is direct out so what I hear in my headset is NOT what the audience hears. Of course this is extremely frustrating when what you hear in the headset sounds great but what you hear on the recording sucks. So I've been working with the sound engineer to improve the sound quality.
From a setup point of view direct out is a lazy mans dream i.e plug and play, right? Guitar presents an entirely different set of problems because when I direct out from my boss guitar processor the warm frequencies produced by my tube amps is lacking. In my opinion, it is a very sanitized sound. Remember the vinyl long playing albums? It's like comparing the recorded sound of a CD to that of an LP or an over produced rock band sound to that of a garage band sound. Since I played in my first bands during the 1960's I have an affection for the "garage band" sound. It is warm, natural and more analog sounding then most contemporary music. i Think that is why I enjoy small concert halls (500 - 1000) because, in the case of a symphony, everything is acoustic and the concert hall is utilized for amplification.
In short, I like acoustic sound that is analog in nature and although I use processor's, I do not like the processed sound as much.

He was yelling at the kid, calling him stupid, telling him that he was worthless, and no one loved him. When the kid started crying, the man laughed and called the boy a pussy. He told him that his mother didn't love him and that if he was going to keep crying, he should just kill himself.
There are a series of unfortunate events in my life upon which I look back and think to myself, "If only I hadn't made that decision." Thing is, there is always a decision preceding it that ultimately led me down the wrong path anyway. In adult life, I'd have to say moving from California to Texas in an effort to satisfy my wife's insatiable material appetite and buying the big shiny house. Wife's gone now, house is gone now, and I live in a shitty rent house in Texas with no friends, and unable to move back because of agreements on geographic proximity concerning the child. In younger life, I was a very good musician. I got recruited to some really top notch music schools, but I listened to my high school counselor, and opted to go to a regular college in pursuit of a traditional white collar career. Turns out I just don't have the personality to survive long in an office environment, and I've got no outlet to express myself. I undoubtedly would've been much worse off financially, but my very being would have been a lot more satisfied.
Six years ago I broke up with a long time girlfriend, she was coming out of a severe deppression due to the death of her parents in a car accident, we were fighting one night, I don't even remember why, I just remember it was a stupid meaningless fight. It was 2 am, she told me she never wanted to see me again, then grabbed her keys to her motorbike and left. She was drunk too, She drove out to the beach and drowned herself. I still know I could have and should have stopped her.
That I let people (mostly concerned family) talk me out of pursuing computer and electrical engineering in college. Med school never worked out, so if I could change one thing in my life, it would be that. I can't afford another bachelor's, but I'm learning to program now (never too late for that). I generally live with no regrets, but that is the biggest thing that comes closest to a regret.
I wasn't a bad kid. I didn't do drugs, steal, or anything really stupid like that. I was very well behaved. I just didn't do my homework. I was a fast learner, and would get A's and B's on my tests, but since homework was like 80% of my grades in high school, I was failing classes. I knew I wanted to be a software engineer when I was only 15. But since I didn't do my homework, even after spending an extra year in high school, I didn't have enough credits to graduate, so college didn't happen.

Have you ever walked into a wall?

I have walked into walls, around walls and through walls that exist because some people refuse to change. For example, when I worked for the State of New Hampshire as a network engineer in 2005, each state agency had their own Network Management system. I convinced the governor (Craig Benson) that we should centralize the management system and eliminate all of the existing network management systems. So I proceeded to install and configure one central management system for the entire state to manage the network equipment and the wide area circuits. To accomplish this engineering feat, I had to walk around people, over people and through people who rejected the new architecture and change. But I was relentless because I believed in what I was doing and I knew that it would be more efficient and would save the state and tax payers money.
Example#2 - I have also literally walked into a wall while sleep walking. The dream was so vivid and I was running to save my life and bada-boom... I slam into the bedroom wall and awake wondering: who am I? What am I? Why am I standing next to the wall? And why the heck does my face, arms and body hurt like hell? lol
