What are some of the biggest assumptions/misconceptions people tend to have about your profession/field of study? How do you respond to it? 🙄😑

anonamouse89887’s Profile Photoanonamouse
Many tend to think of urban planners as being hellbent on taking away their freedom by making it "harder" to drive.
What people need to understand is how incredibly spatially inefficient cars are. In between parking spaces, roads etc. they take up a lot of very valuable space in the city centres that could be used for other things. Such space could be opened up for more sustainable ways of travel, new public spaces, construction or green spaces!
This spatial inefficiency makes cities very spread out when they are built to accommodate cars. This leads to worse coverage for public services such as hospitals, schools and transit cause of the increased distance and lesser density
Cities built around cars are very inconvenient and unsafe for everyone who doesn't own a car. European kids for example have a lot more autonomy than American kids cause of their ability to bike or walk almost everywhere and not being forced to rely on their parents to drive them.
It's also important to lessen emissions in cities, not only for the environment but for people's health. Cars also cause a lot of noise pollution, in between the engines, honking etc. Cities generally aren't loud, cars are.
I need to make clear though, cars in cities will always be a necessity for some people, like if they travel from very rural areas which realistically can't support public transit or good bike infrastructure. Or if they are helping out with a move etc.
By making it easier for people to choose other ways of travel, it'll mean less cars on the roads and traffic will flow more smoothly for those who need to drive. Increased road widths and more parking spaces only fuels a cycle that leads to more people driving, which in turn leads to congested, noisy, spatially inefficient and unsafe cities 🚘🚫

How's your day been?

I went on a very interesting tour of Bembridge Fort. It belongs to the National Trust but it's not been open for very long and it's in a bit of a state, so you can only go on guided tours wearing a hard hat and carrying a torch. They did some interesting experiments here during WW2 with detecting underwater submarines using very large loops of wire under the sea, trying to pick up the magnetism from U-boat engines.
Hows your day been

اتتذكرين مرة اقتربتي فيها من الموت

Well, the closest time I felt this when I was still a flight attendant, we were on a flight on a day in which the weather conditions were very, very bad.
We had been in the air for just 15 minutes then the pilot reported that there was a partial failure in one of the plane’s engines and that we had to return to the airport again for an emergency landing.
The next 20 minutes after that were one of the most times I was afraid in my life and I felt that this was the end, it was a very bumpy ride, we were moving vigorously up and down in our chairs despite of our seatbelts, I was trying to act cool and not terrified to assure the passengers but I was really screaming inside 😅
Thank God we landed safely, but it was the worst landing that I experienced during the five years I worked as a flight attendant and the pilot himself then told us that he expected to fail to land the plane safely by about 70% .. this was one of the worst experiences of my entire life 😅

Your hybrid is like a EV did you buy cause it's better for the environment ?

> Your hybrid is like a EV
No, not exactly. A hybrid has two engines. One is powered by gasoline or diesel, the other is electric. When the fuel side is running, it charges battery packs which power the electric side. An EV is fully electric with battery packs that have to be charged externally. It does not have an engine but several smaller electric motors.
> did you buy cause it's better for the environment ?
It is a little more efficient so I suppose that helps. It really depends on your driving habits, etc. City driving can use less fuel but on the freeway, I haven't noticed a significant difference. On average, you can expect better mileage by 20% to 40% depending on vehicle. EV technology is still fairly new and more expensive. The average price for an Electric Vehicle is $50,000 to $60,000 and until the market adjusts (which may take years), I believe that a hybrid is a better option. Personally, I would not consider an EV until they reach price parity with conventional or hybrid vehicles.

If you have flown, what do you think of the general experience of flying? 🛩

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Oooo I love flying so much!
It gives me such a ‘pinch me’ moment to realize I’m so high into the sky. And when you fly during the day: there’s always sun since you’re above the clouds 😍
I also love the sounds of the engines so much lol, one of the best sounds in the world in my opinion. ✈️
If you have flown what do you think of the general experience of flying

I just wanted to ask how hard is it gonna be if you have amy idea. I read all about search engine evaluation but still I never tried any online job and I don't even have a bank account. xD

Muhamed162’s Profile PhotoRip
I don't know much about search engine evaluation myself, since the optimisation requires different skill sets.
BUT, what I do know about it seems to indicate that it's pretty straight forward and not that hard.
You just need to be able to manage your time and not let work consume all of your day.
It would be great if you had designated hours for work each day.
I think it will be better for your position to understand the basics of SEO and how search engines work, google especially, and be up-to-date about their algorithm updates and learn how to analyze SERPs.
(I can offer some recommendations on that matter)
As for the bank account, you don't need one. Just get a prepaid card and you'll be able to complete all your transactions with it.
Another important thing is to make sure that you're getting paid well. Know how much people in that position get on average and be sure you're not underpaid (a lesson I had to learn the hard way).
I'm sure you'll do a great job and wish all the luck in the world.
And if you need any help, I'll be here.

I hope I will never will be forced to travel by plane again, I traveled 4x but everytime I had to take a pill for sleeping, I have PHOBIA AF from it as well as from spiders ! 😅😂
If you were forced to jump off the plane because the engines crashed

You are

When did you wake up this morning?

Actually slept last night but still woke up about 4AM.
The tender nudges and purring of my cat, eager for his morning snuggles. The sound of diesel engines starting as my neighbors warm their trucks up to head to the frac well. The light breathing of my beautiful, sleeping wife. A mild back ache. The rugged brrrrraaaaaapppfffsss of my surprisingly vibrant morning fart, and the smell of broccoli and graveyard dirt wafting from the depths of my comforter, as though a diseased and angered mallard had snuck into bed over night.
Woke up in the crabbiest mood because school wasn't canceled. First world problem. I then made the seemingly safe walk to school, and slipped in ice right in front of everyone walking up. Tried playing it off and slipped again. 3/10 morning with rice.
My SO and I are long distance so we try to facetime as often as we can. So much that we fall asleep together. This morning I woke up to her saying my name loudly to wake me up because my TV was on too loud and bothering her. It's not much, but I love that we are able to have semi-normal interactions like that.
I like that it's 24 hours so I don't risk waking up to an infomercial any time of the night. There is literally a late-night infomercial titled, Got A Turkey Neck? It's on all the time, at least where I live, on every channel. I'm 30. I don't want to accidentally wake up to that. I don't need that kind of terror in my life.
I ended up waking up and opened the blinds to find a light snow cover on the car in the driveway, a smell of stale cigs and looking at the alarm clock to see I finally got some rest.
The feeling of being loved enough for my fiancee to be out running the snowblower so I'd be able to easily get out of the driveway. We BOTH work.
The sound of my sink running. Our pipes were frozen last night so i cranked up the heat and left the faucet in the bathroom off my bedroom on. Didn't think I'd get to shower today.
My SO. She's beautiful, and last night was the first night she stayed over at my place and got to wake up to her face. She had to leave to go to Seattle for the weekend, and I miss her.
Thing that woke me first time: boyfriends alarm (he had an early meeting, I didn't have to be up that early so I went back to sleep for another half hour). Thing that woke me for the day: boyfriend putting our dog in bed with me to wake me with puppy snuggles right before he left so I didn't have to get up to my alarm.
My husband getting home from work and the dog excitedly running out of the bedroom to meet him.
Between 7 and 9 usually. I just naturally wake up in that timeframe. Also, I have designed my life so that I don't have to wake up very early in the morning (i.e. by an alarm clock), since doing so makes me actually hate my life a little bit.

If you drive, what's the habit of some drivers that grinds your gears the most? Do you often have to deal with wreckless people on the road? 😡🚘

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
The thing that bothers me most these days, and I expect I do it as well at times, is when people sit in their car, parked up, going nowhere with the engine on. That’s what gets to me the most. If your engine’s on, then drive the bloody thing! That’s what I feel like shouting at them.
Sorry for the rant :)

only criminals use the dark web honest people dont need it

"Dark web" and "deep web" are used interchangeably but they are not the same. "Deep web" refers to anything on the net that is not indexed by search engines on the "surface web" (which is what you'll see in your typical web browser). "Dark web" is a smaller subset of the "deep web" which is accessible through the Tor browser. It can be used for illegal purposes but monitoring and infiltration by "white hats," law enforcement and their allies are aware of the issues and it would be unfair to label all "dark web" users as "criminals." Do not assume that "black hats" or others with questionable intentions exist only on the "dark web." The are bad actors in every percentage of internet users:
The "deep web": 96% to 99%.
The "dark web": less than half of "deep web" users.
The "surface web" (also called "normie internet"): around 4%.

Qué diferencia hay entre hacer el bien y evitar hacer el mal Cuál de los dos es

Has there ever been a time when something so amazing or unexpected happened that it literally left you speechless for a time? 🙊

🛸 Yes.
In the late 1990s, one dark night me and a friend were climbing up to a stone circle on a hill, shortly before midnight.
🛸 We saw an amazing array of lights suddenly rise vertically from behind the hill and lift up into the air. Absolute classic Close Encounters UFO stuff.
🛸 Me and my mate were gobsmacked into open-mouthed silence.
🛸 Then the sound caught up with it, the roar of jet engines, and it turned, now clearly a fighter plane, and shot off over our heads.
🛸 I thought only Harrier jump-jets could rise vertically like that, and I wasn’t aware the UK still used them. Nor did I think planes were equipped with such an array of lights, but there you go.
🛸 It’s possible that in the pitch darkness the plane simply flew over the hill and it just looked like it was rising over the summit vertically, the lights being deceptive.
🛸 Anyway, it was quite a relief afterwards!

Yea it just be a lot of things going on in my head so I guess I overthink everything too much like if someone brings up a topic I'm not interested in or don't know much about I feel like my brain kinda just shuts off 🤷🏾‍♀️ idk I wanna say I have a short attention span but idk

It‘s totally fine if you don’t wanna invest into a conversation that you can’t bring much to the table to. I can totally feel that.
If someone starts talking about cars and engines in a group conversation and I can opt out, I most certainly will do so. 😄 Or I‘ll try to direct the conversation into a different direction. 🤗

"You can never replace anyone because everyone is made up of such beautiful specific details." .. What is your opinion on this quote? To what extent do you agree or disagree?

This is one of the most true Quotations I've ever read. Like , you can't put benzene in the cars that have diesel engines .
Both diesel and benzene are liquids and they're made from the same source, but they're totally different , each one has its own essence.
Well, I do agree this af ??

Min, why do European fighter jets look the same? Take a look at Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale, and Saab Gripen. They feature small airframe, delta wing, and canard, yet somehow the price and operating cost can be hugely different

Almost every car has four wheels, and engine, steering wheels yet their price can be so different.
Similarity of design doesn't mean similarity of prices. There are tons of things to be considered, and a lot of them are not actually related to the design.
About the design. Gripen is a single engine fighter. It means a lot since adding more engines adds more complexity to the system. Not only that, the computer system needs to take care of two engines so that in taxes the computer even more, making it even more complex. Since an engine needs a lot of maintenance, having more engines means more parts that needs to be maintained, adding more operating cost. Adding more engines doesn't translate into "twice the speed", due to this drag equation:
D = Cd * A * .5 * r * V^2
Where A is the reference area of the object, V is the velocity of the object (relative to the moving fluid). Since drag increases by the square of the velocity, the power required to push the planes rises exponentially. Coupled with that fact, more engines means larger cross section for a plane, thus, larger reference area. Adding more engines however helps in increasing the payload, but still doesn't mean that you can double the payload since adding more weight means that you either increase the speed or enlarging your wings, both of them causes even more drag, not to mention that the plane itself has a weight on its own.
Typhoon, being a larger plane means more material needed to construct. Coupled with the fact that Typhoon is a multinational project, there are too many companies involved in it, each increasing the price since each company has to make a profit (one of the primary reason why SpaceX can be so cheap compared to United Launch Alliance). Logically Rafale should be more expensive since it has smaller number of planes produced due to Economies of Scale, increasing the production decreases the cost per unit up to a point where increasing the production scale raises the cost per unit. However, Rafale is a French project, thus the transportation of each component happens on a single contiguous country, cutting the production cost significantly. Being a single country project also helps the coordination of the project and solving bureaucratic problems associated with multinational projects.
As for why they are similar (in using delta and canards), there's a quora article for that:
https://www.quora.com/How-do-canards-affect-the-aerodynamics-and-performance-of-a-combat-aircraft/answer/Raphael-Segal
European and Russian fighters are mostly about maneuverability, so that's understandable, while in Russian case, since they are basically already has a proper template (Mig 29 and Su 27) they don't change it that much since it is basically a risk.

Do you think the world is getting better because of technology, or is technology causing some of the problems we have with terrorism, bigotry, global warming, etc.

It is important to keep in mind that technology is limited by the ways in which we use it. Although tech is continually evolving, human beings remain essentially the same as they were 30,000 years ago: tribal, fearful, superstitious animals. Technology isn’t the problem; we are. Is technology making the world better? Look at expected lifespans, how easy and cheap it is to communicate across the world, and that we have access to virtually all the information in the world in our pockets, and we watch cat videos. Does technology create problems? Sure. Man-made global climate change started in the 19th century when steam engines were deployed to pump water out of mines, and it’s only gotten worse. The key is to exploit the benefits of technology, and use it to mitigate the problems. Technology created horrible pollution by the 1960’s-70’s, and technology has remediated a lot of it. Technology created thousands of injuries and deaths from traffic accidents; in 5–10 years technology will have fixed many of those with self-driving vehicles. I think it’s a Catch-22 type of thing. Of course, technology is amazing because now we can do so many more things; interact with people from around the world; find out what’s happening everywhere at any time; on top of many, many other cool things. But we aren’t so used to having access to so much information and, quite frankly, power, so we tend to abuse this privilege and don’t know when to stop. Plus, since technology spreads good things quickly, it also spreads bad things quickly. But I don’t think we have problems such as bigotry, terrorism, and global warming directly because of technology, because these problems have always existed; we just now have a faster means of spreading that information. In short, maybe the world is getting better and worse at the same time. I don’t know though, that’s just my 2 cents. Terrorism and bigotry have been around for thousands of years. Just because it's new to some newer countries doesn't mean it didn't exist all along. As far as global warming don't worry we're not important enough to make too many changes in the earth we will just be eradicated soon enough. Right now I think tech' is stalled. Tech' cannot continue to bring the equivalent of the '60's to 2018; if that were the case, no one here could begin to imagine what's going to happen in 20 years from now. The other issue is that of financing; whatever is in the pipeline for the next 20 years we can' afford. Both. Technology has improved food production, medicine, and qualify of life for many, but it's also facilitated the production of deadlier weapons, increased pollution, and spread misinformation more easily than ever before. I think tech is as good as the leash on it.

Hela looked at Loki while walking. All those slaves on Asgard and the girl back to Jotunheim. What if there was no one alive ? "If. And what if.." she didn't finish the sentence, very sure he had gotten the question. "Get on the ship and take a seat. All of you," she ordered.

Loki sighed, what if... What if he had ki.lled them all, what if he had ki.lled her parents? He let the girl sit next to the other slaves and immediately activated the engines of the ship. So he took off and activated the autopilot once they avoided the meteors.
They all had empty eyes, the girl in particular, he walked to her and then knelt in front of the girl who avoided his gaze.
He turned into his normal form.
"What is your name?" He asked, but she didn't answer, so Loki looked at Hela and gulped, slowlyoving his gaze back to her as she turned into his Jotun form. Her eyes opened almost wide and her voice sounded like a whisper. "Eira."
