Why did Washington Post journalist Felicia Sonmez get fired?

Felicia Sonmez a journalist for the Washington Post was fired recently for bullying and attacking her coworkers using her twitter account. In an emailed termination letter, which was viewed by the New York Times, Ms. Sonmez was told that the Post was ending her employment, effectively immediately. "for misconduct that includes insubordination, maligning your co-workers online and violating The Post's standards on workplace collegiality and inclusivity."
The email also said that Ms. Sonmez's "public attempts to question the motives of your co-journalists" undermined The Post's reputation.
"We cannot allow you o continue to work as a journalist representing The Washington Port," the letter said.
GET WOKE.... GO BROKE!!

sorry but you can't really call a "career" flipping burgers at mdonald. when you say "career" you talk about something big i.e a doctor, a scientist, a journalist. the word career is way too big to be used when referring to something that doesn't require college.

hate to break it to ya, but a career is defined as your profession in which you work. if you work in a specific industry — and have worked in that industry for some time — then you have a career.
this is an example of people looking down on retail/food service workers. a job is a job.

From those topics which you chose I would say definitely music. I already had a small concert and music is my life. It was my dream since I had been a small child. Otherwise I am on the way to be a journalist and I hope I will be a football commentator one day. That would be also a kind of popularity

Ted Bundy agreed to an extended interview with a journalist but was using the interview for publicity and to feed his ego. The journalist realized that Bundy would not reveal any useful information about the case so he came up with a strategy to have Bundy speak in the 3rd person. Very clever. ❤️

I haven’t watched that, but I don’t have Netflix. I have watched several but my favorite was the one with “Don’t Fear the Reaper” playing in the background often. 😂 I’m glad you had a great New Years! I had a cozy one as it’s been so cold here. 🥶

I listened to some of her interviews. Idk if I believe everything. She could make up anything and there's no one to corroborate.

How can you not believe her when there’s other stories of other survivors like herself that literally say the same thing. There’s tons of documentation. Also, she has done interviews with some of the most famous people/journalists (Jordan Peterson being one of them) who are required to fact check her. A journalist literally searches everything to make sure she is who she says she is. If you read her book you would know that there’s people in there that can corroborate her story. The interview with Jordan literally proves it cause he talks about it.

Tita I feel insecure. My guy’s ex is a renowned journalist here in PH and abroad. They were together for years. I haven’t even graduated yet. I’m just average at best. Pakiramdam ko po I’m not on their level. They’re like the cool kids I’ll never belong with. How do I stop feelings this way, Tita?

Why do you think your boyfriend is with you and not with the journalist? There are a hundred other people better, more attractive, smarter, and wealthier than you. But your boyfriend chose you. The more you feel you don't deserve him, the more you'll convince him that you're right and he's wrong in choosing you. Examine your insecurities and see your own qualities. Because we don't choose journalists as life partners. We choose people's values and character. If you don't think you have what he's looking for even if he chose you, he'll catch on pretty quickly and feel about you what you're feeling about yourself.

What are your thoughts on this? US scientists have developed a computer, that will interpret someone's thoughts, and convert it to speech. My thoughts are this...If they can do this, they can do anything! Your thoughts?

Not worried. Also if it was tested in Americans it has to be a pretty awesome computer 🙃 Computers will rule the world! Yeaahhh!
Sounds interesting, where did you see that?
Transhuamism/anti-human is coming. The convergence of biology and tech. This is the transhumanist/eugenicist wet dream. Well, they may be reported as having claimed such but I take it with a sizeable few grammes of sodium chloride.
Besides, even if possible, surely it would need sensors attaching to the head to detect whatever are the thought "signals"? What is your un-cited source? The original in a respected scientific publication or some general journalist mis-representing that? (Not that most of us would necessarily be able to read the paper even if sufficiently knowledgable. The big publishers like Elsevier have sewn up the scientific-papers trade very tightly and made access extremely expensive. Even many of the scientist authors now complain they are often unable to re-read their own past individual or contributed papers, unless they had ensured from the start, retaining copies privately!) A dictatorship would love such an invention.. That would be an awesome tool to identify people with the wrong think.

How did you change from shy/antisocial to outgoing?

I used to worry what people thought of me, men and women alike. I had lived my entire middle-school and almost high school existence thinking I needed to impress people. That being said I was fortunate to have never compromised my morals, but I worried about the way I dressed and acted to an extent just to be cool. This in turn led to me being insecure when it came to women because I was afraid of being judged if I had failed in my pursuits. However, I was friends with this one girl. Genuine, inseparable, platonic friends. Towards the end of high school I started to develop feelings for her, and we dated for a bit. However, only a few days after my birthday, I had found out that she had cheated on me. Not only my girlfriend, but my best friend, had cheated on me. After that I was very upset for a short duration of time (1-2 weeks) and all of a sudden I had the instant realization, "Why should I care what anyone thinks, who am I trying to impress? Why do I need someone else to make me happy? Why am I not just being the full me?" And it was after this event that made me realize there was no reason to be afraid of being outgoing because I no longer cared what people thought. From that point, my confidence boomed like crazy and I am fortunate to say that I am genuinely "popular" and I have a wonderful girlfriend because we have remained independent yet dependable. Honestly I just kind of forced myself. I realized that the outgoing people in my life had the kind of life I wanted, so I just started making small conversations with people. Their name and where they're was usually enough to start some sort of conversation. After that I started to try to find what made outgoing people more likable. Things like just smiling during a conversation and making eye contact (which I still have trouble with eye contact sometimes.) After years of doing this, I still feel sort of a nervous rush when I talk to people I don't know, but it has gotten a little easier.
Confidence. That's really helped me. I used to never be able to talk to girls and only met friends through other friends. But when i was going to college at 21 even that helped. Then i got a job as a journalist and my confidence skyrocketed. So yeah do something with yourself. Art or poetry or music are good too. Do something you're good at in your spare time. Accomplishment begets confidence.
I stopped caring what people thought. The only reason I was shy in the first place is because I was concerned about offending people. But then I realized that people are usually only offended by things that they represent, and sometime people need to hear the truth even if it offends them.

My name is Skylar but often go by Sky. I live in Athens, Greece, and I am a full time journalist. I am 21 years old and my pronouns are She/Her.
× ᴡʜʏ ᴀsᴋ ғᴍ?
Ask was the first website I ever used for rp. I've been around for quite a while and it's a real shame the place isn't as it used to be. I still have hope I'll find people to interact with despite that.
× ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴀᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ?
I will try to be, yes. I did mention low activity on my bio. That's because I work and spend my free time in games. Yet I will try my best to be as present as possible.
× ᴡʜʏ ᴛʜɪs ᴍᴜsᴇ?
One of my favorite games is Call of Duty. I recently played cold war and couldn't help but love it. Adler is a complicated character but he certainly grew on me. Considering I play a lot of multiplayer and warzone and I use Adler among other operators, my muse for him is strong so, I picked him.
× ᴡʜᴇʀᴇ ᴄᴀɴ ᴡᴇ ʀᴇᴀᴄʜ ʏᴏᴜ?
I am on various other platforms I'm willing to share if we get to know each other first.
× ᴅᴏ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡʀɪᴛᴇ ɪɴ ʀᴘ ɪɴ ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴘʟᴀᴛғᴏʀᴍs?
I do write on tumblr and briefly on Instagram. My tumblr multimuse is in my bio. My Instagram is a writing account for a different character and will only be shared through private messages.
× ᴠᴇʀsᴇs?
I have various of verses for Russell in my mind yet I'm not writing them down mainly because they will vary depending on the thread. I'm following multiple fandoms and I'm willing to adjust Adler in any of them, even those I'm not so familiar with. I'm also willing to adjust the time period, considering Russell is a character born in the 40's, and I can also adjust the cannon of the game. All you need to do is slide into my askbox.
ɪɴғᴏ?
I don't believe it's necessary for my fellow writers to know my character. We are all here for the same thing and that's to write. Different characters from different worlds can interact. But if you do want to catch a glimpse of my character, my bio should give you what you need.

≤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ after the events of briarcliff, including the murder of bloody face and the birth of her child, lana’s next ʙɪɢ ꜱᴛᴇᴘ was jupiter, florida. rumor has it, that the infamous ‘ fraulein elsa’s cabinet of curiosities ’ hides big, shady business’ behind the closed curtains ━━━ the main entertainment, also known as FREAKS, are being treated badly by the visitors and mrs. mars, herself; the employees live in bad conditions and they’re deprived of employee rights in the workplace; and the most shocking of them all, a detective has been murdered and there is a killer clown on the loose. sounds like a pretty busy case/or undercover investigation for our journalist, one may say.
lana booked herself a three-room flat in downtown jupiter, gave herself a new makeover, and bought a .38 special handgun for safety. she kept her real identity and occupation. why? well, briarcliff left her pretty traumatized, plus, she was done with the whole ‘ false names and SPYING ’ thing. after settling down, lana started her investigation. first, she contacted the local police and had a conversation with them. fortunately, the police staff was ODDLY generous, even going as far as landing lana some files and unsolved cases that have happened around the town. second, she started searching for her own facts. somehow she ended up at the mott residence ━━━ one of the wealthiest families in jupiter, florida.
introducing herself as an author for an upcoming book about the life of florida’s elite, mrs. mott bought her white lie and welcomed her inside the mansion. ' wow, just look at this place! it looks like a palace, so spacious and bright. ' she exclaimed in fake amusement, taking a look around. ' a lot of people would KILL for this house, you know? ' lana glanced at mrs. mott and raised an eyebrow at her in a questioning way. ' could you? could you KILL someone to get what you want, mrs. mott, or maybe you sent your own son to do the job for you? ' sensing the unpleasant feeling of SUSPICIOUSNESS and MISTRUST, lana quickly covered up the awkwardness with a gentle chuckle, following a head shake. ' i’m kidding, jeez! looked like i almost got you there, mrs. mott. '

Wenn ja, was wäre darin enthalten?

Apparently somewhere in the UK a kid was being bullied In school and the school did fuck all about it. The kid who was being bullied his mum was a journalist and manged to get on the front page of their local newspaper that the school allows bullying thoughts on that matter?

Well tbh apparently all schools in England don’t tolerate bullying but that’s bullshit in most schools. Bullying where I live isn’t as common in the society but I’m not sure what it’s like further down south in England

What chances have we got as time passes from the time of the PM (as)? And I know the Jamaat can't be judged on actions of others, but this form of be-purdagi is becoming more and more rampant, what can we do about it? Apologies for wasting your time, apologies. Jazak'Allah

First of all you have not wasted my time at all. My time is for the Jama'at and its members. Your query reminds me of something that Hazrat Musleh Maud (ra) mentioned . Once Huzoor (ra) visited Quetta and he met a non-Ahmadi maulvi there who pointed towards an Ahmadi journalist (who did not keep a beard) and said that people of you Jamaat do not keep beards. Hazrat Musleh Maud (ra) said that i responded to him by saying call your boys and I will call mine and lets see who follows Islam more. The thing is there might be some Lajna who do not observe purdah but the vast majority of our Lajna do cover up and no one can take that away from them. People have weaknesses and the only thing is just to admonish them and pray for them. Befriend people first then admonish them and they will listen.
Another thing we have to keep in mind is that when a Jama'at increases, the tarbiyyat issues also increase because now you have to deal with people from different backgrounds, nations and mindsets. And this was one of the biggest challenges that Islam faced during the later years of the Holy Prophet (saw) and the era of Khulafa e Rashideen. Our chances are good as long as we have Khilafat and we remain obedient to it. So we are always going to have tarbiyyat issues and that is because us humans are weak. So our job is to keep listening to Huzoor (May ALLAH be his Helper!) and trying to reform ourselves.

An employee was fired because he used abusive words from his "personal" social media account, and the CEO of the bank happened to know the journalist who was abused. Do you think this is fair?

Iamahomunculus’s Profile PhotoHawkeye
Given he's the CEO he can fire whomever he wants, but whether or not this is just is another topic entirely (which I do not believe it is).
I'm missing some important bits of context here but seeing how you phrased it, it seems as though the primary reason the CEO left an employee (that may have been perfectly competent) jobless without prior warning is personal bias (depending on how you meant 'knew the journalist') and not public uproar. Even if it was the latter though (depending on how 'personal' his account was) I'm not inclined to say it's the most just decision. The sociocultural demands are more problematic in this case - and the fact that we live in a culture that would like to see a man fired for his opinions - but seeing companies pander is always unfortunate. This reminds me of the James Damore situation that occurred a couple of years ago. You can't blame companies for wanting to maximise their profit and avoid controversies, but I wonder where we're going if all it takes is a little uproar to leave someone without a job they might have worked incredibly hard for. I'm aware of the morality (or lack thereof) one can expect from corporations but profit isn't the only goal they should be gearing towards if they want organisational functionality. I can't imagine someone would be too happy with a job that calls for not spewing something controversial, or what that's doing for open speech in the grander scheme of things.

I think is good that anybody can have the opportunity to express themselves and put their oppinions out there. However, I think it is important that they at least have a good grammar and make it easy for people understand what they mean

It can be both a good and bad thing. Some journalists will use it as a way of spreading hate, others will use it to make a point.. I think an important characteristic thing for a journalist is to be honest.
And I think we can improve journalism by staying true to the story..

A few days before the beginning of the World Cup (or Football Championship), a French journalist declared : “Football is the new opium of the people”. Do you agree or disagree? Give your reasons

I think sporting events have always been something of a blessing and curse to our societies. In the US they've provided a welcomed distraction and a small sense of hope in times of war and turmoil. They've also been the playground for organized crime and for the rich and powerful. Dreams, friendships and many dollars have been built and destroyed around professional sports. So yeah, for some people any sport can be like a drug.

No I disagree. I've been surrounded by people crazy about football most of my life and I've managed not to get drawn into it. Every four years I have to watch what's it called, the World Cup? That thing. Which can be vaguely exciting. I wish I was Welsh because rugby looks really good.

With a little digging, ghosts from the past can be conjured from thin air. it's only when they become flesh and blood, the real problems arise. I wish you luck on your next story. / Good luck sweetie. With your talent becoming a journalist won't be an issue. I'm glad you like the quotes.
