#lockout

I respect the people who are able to solo certain encounters in the raid, but I don't think raids should be able to be soloed. I don't think Bungie designs them with the intent of there being some secret option to solo them like some people think. There are design flaws if things can be soloed and yes, self-res is ultimately the reason that a lot of these solos are possible. I don't think self-res really belongs in the game to be honest because it just breaks so much stuff, but this isn't a new opinion of mine. I've never really liked self-res because it promotes undisciplined play with no penalty. There's no point in being cautious when you can just come back to life. There's no skill in just being able to die whenever you want, at least in PvE.

If they wanted to make Aksis un-soloable for whatever reason (they're not because I think maybe 50 people have done it and they're not doing it for gear, it's not worth the time to fix), all they'd need to do is have charge lockout persist through death. That's it. For anything else, wipe mechanics should drain a little bit of super as they happen and that gets rid of self-res as an option.

It's a sticky situation but I have to side with Apple on this one. They are forcing Apple (a private company that has absolutely nothing to do with the crime) to create a way to disable the feature that completely wipes the iPhone after the incorrect password is entered a certain number of times. Once that is disabled the FBI could easily brute force it and break into the phone.

One of the reasons phones are hard to crack is because brute forcing isn't an option thanks to the lockout wipe. This would be a major security hole, added to iOS for the sake of FBI expedience. It isn't worth the trade off, IMO.

Undermining encryption makes everybody less safe. There is no such thing as a backdoor "just for the good guys" and does anyone really think the FBI will use this new backdoor iOS one time, for this phone only? Sooner or later, it'll get pushed out in the wild. Then it's open season on anybody whose system is compromised by that backdoor. Hell, someone inside Apple may even try to steal the technology (the "master key")

What happened in San Bernardino is a huge tragedy, but that does not excuse the enormous breach of privacy the government and courts have mandated.

Maybe they can work out a compromise of some kind with Apple. But no I don't support the idea of Apple having to add a brute force backdoor that harms the integrity of the data of all other iOS users.
