#physiology

I haven’t really had to make many hard decisions to this day but one of the more difficult decisions I’ve made (back when I was in high school) was choosing between staying in environmental science or switching to human anatomy & physiology. I knew that I would have to take either of those classes or chemistry for the rest of the year but I really didn’t like environmental science so I went with human anatomy but got scared when people were talking about how hard the class was. I didn’t care about classes or my grades the first two years of high school so it was safe to say I wasn’t up for a challenge. Shortly after joining the class, I realized how much I loved learning about the human body and started studying for what felt like the first time in years. I ended up doing amazing in the class and had no regrets. The year after, I chose to take chemistry. I wish I continued being a diligent student but once I started going to college, I really struggled with motivation and went back to my old ways. I was planning on graduating this year but I haven’t yet.

Melech: There's.... changes. Like, when the rut begins there's very blatant differences between before and after. There's us as we are right now which is already a little abnormal and then there's the under the effects of the demon ''rut''. I personally try to stay away from others during it.

It depends on ur definition of basics or broad lines, a freshman would struggle to recall basic stuff like the actual role of the kidney, they would take time to say filtration absorption or its vitamin D role, they may be surprised that a lack of erythropoietin may cause anemia, it takes a while for them to answer a question about the role of the kidney and the synthesis of RBCS

For any other older student, a senior, that's basic, too basic to think about it even, doesn't require any extraordinary powers, even for students who barely succeed, they know ALOT.

I may not remember many things and I would recall much more after I have my renal rounds at the children's hospital :'D but the basics? Do I need to keep memorizing them?

The problem with med students is that they underestimate the amount of data that they have passively in their brains with out working hard to keep them inside, they focus on all the things they forgot, and they would not celebrate the "trivial" knowledge they gathered over the years.
.
But this trivial knowledge qualifies them for a medical license and separates them from the public, the same basics that we get surprised that ppl don't know and forget to explain to the patient simple things like how antibiotics are not antivirals, we assume it's common knowledge because it's effortless to us, but it isn't.
