How fast can you type? ⌨️ 👍 🙃

not really fast.
just tested it and scored 227 CPM (45 WPM), which is above average, but I think it's still slow. On mobile it was 191 CPM (35 WPM). I may as well learn how to type faster 'cause I studied as a software engineer and typing slowly as a programmer is not the first thing I would want anyone to notice.

What’s so bad about basing your self worth on grades?

My personal thoughts are that grades don't define who you are as a person, they simply restrain your intelligence to a certain letter or number average. A real person is so much more intriguing than the thing you see on that piece of paper/report card. A person has dreams, desires, opportunities, and basing your self worth on grades is stooping yourself down to a low level of what the honestly messed up school system says you can be, rather than trying to achieve the things you want and love. It is a toxic mindset to put yourself down like that and it is much healthier to give yourself a chance rather than confine yourself to the laws of society.
But things won’t always be great on that front. Especially in the workplace. The economy might suck. You will work for and with difficult people. Performance and progression is not as clear cut as it is in school. You will inevitably feel stagnant or stunted or disrespected or devalued, no matter how much success you have. That’s not me being cynical. It’s a part of life. You may have a 4.0, but one day, your career will look less than perfect.
When that day comes it is incredibly healthy to have a sense of meaning that goes beyond work. Family. Friends. Hobbies. Spirituality, if that’s your thing. Civic involvement. A healthy balance is necessary for happiness. It’s like diversifying your portfolio, and if you don’t hedge your well-being against career uncertainty, you will find yourself unhappy one day.
Generally, some people may have an easier path in life up to some point and think themselves to be much better than they actually are. And when they need to show how good they are in front of an average challenge, some fail spectacularly. For example, I don't think I've ever had below 9/10 on any programming related subject since secondary school up to Uni. I'm a shitty programmer. If I would advertise myself that as a good one because of those grades, I would be embarassed when meeting industry standards.
Circumstances outside of your control can cause you to lose whatever it is that’s making you get good grades (natural ability, motivation, resources, etc), so if your self worth is based on your grades you’ll suffer. That’s what I was like, then I moved from northern Virginia to Idaho halfway through high school and had to change my entire educational course and ended up super behind because of how different the school systems were. Tried to kill myself not long after my grades started to suffer as a result of the move. Not saying that’ll happen to you, just saying that sometimes life is fucked so you should just find things to love about yourself that don’t require external validation.

Do you consider yourself an interesting/boring person? How so?

I think I'm boring. I don't have any hobbies besides reddit and occasionally binging a tv show, I haven't experienced a lot of interesting things (that are positive), there's nothing I know particularly much about, and if you talk to me I don't know what to say most of the time. Regarding the hobbies, there are a few things I'd like to get into (like oil painting and wood carving) but I don't have that much money and it always costs so much initially to buy all the tools and stuff and if I have the choice of either spending my money on lots of takeaway food and clothing or on tools that I don't even know I'll use twice, it's not a difficult decision. Mostly, I'm infinitely curious about the world and people. When I meet someone new I see a chance of learning more, discovering someone and finding out what we might have in common. I've cultivated all this diversity of interests because every member of my family likes different things and we always pay attention to each other and learn from each other (dad's a mathematician and physicist who has a rock band, mom is an interior-design nerd who loves science documentaries and learning about different cultures, big brother is a history-geek, programmer and photographer who rescues dogs, sister in law is an engineer and practices karate, middle brother is a writer and editor who's getting into graphic design and wants to study history, i've even adopted many interests from my little nephews and niece, like some cartoons and videogames). I also have a witty and silly sense of humor (thanks to both my parents) and most of the times feel confident around people (other times I get very anxious) mostly because I know I can handle pretty much any conversation topic (either because I have something to contribute or because I know nothing about it but want to learn a bit). I also try to make other people feel comfortable, specially if they're shy. I'm always respectful. Of course, to some people I would be boring anyway. Some might not like my sense of humor or whatever. Also, most of my hobbies are done inside, so I'm trying to get into something that would take me outside (installed PokemonGo for this reason but I'm considering going back to french classes) because I'm dating someone. But right now? Boring as fuck. I'm a student, and all I basically do is study, party, Netflix and occasional interesting things related to my degree. I can't afford to indulge in my hobbies, or have the time to travel even around my country. I like gaining extra knowledge through reading and stuff, but I'm awful at retaining it, so I'm not very good at contributing to meaningful conversations regarding stuff like politics. I'm good at chatting biology, feminism, climate change and animals, that's pretty much it.

I am so forgetful, disorganized, always absent minded, and process information slower most of the time. I want to go to university but I am afraid I won't survive. What should I do?

KeepYourEyesPeeled’s Profile PhotoLucas
Make sure to write more things down. Even if it's something insignificant. Write it down anyway, and see if you see any changes. Chances are you're only forgetting things because you're not consciously paying attention to whatever it is that you're forgetting. If I'm going to use a personal example here, I sometimes forgot what I learned in class, but I could trace it back just not paying enough attention. Or even not writing enough stuff down. So when I fixed that mistake, I started remembering more.
Practicing what you learned helps too. Not just writing it, but actually doing it. When I spent the last two years in college, I retained information more when I was actually applying concepts that I learned. So, with regards to programming, I learned the best by writing code. I can look at code all day long, but it didn't help me learn. If I wanted to be a better programmer I had to learn by writing code myself. Sometimes it was hard, and very painful, but that's how I learned.
I'm still not the best programmer, but I feel more confident now that I was even last year and the year prior.

do you have any ritual with studying some thing new ? Or you just start reading and studying randomly ..I'm asking you that because I believe that doctors are the most talented people for studying topics . what about if he is doctor and Programmer :"D if you can talk about how you can absorb info?

Well, thanks for the compliment. Surprisingly when I started I was following the same methodology I was following in my early years at medical school ...
I can divide that into 2 parts
The first part is whenever I am learning about something ... I highlight the stuff that I have absolutely no idea about and they're important to get the full picture. I add them to something like a backlog and from time to time I pick a topic from that backlog.
Example: a couple of years ago I was starting to use Angular and I learned about decorators. I didn't know what decorators are and I've never used a programming language that offers decorators. Now decorators are added to my backlog. What happened later was:
* I looked for what decorators are and what they offer. That leads me to "metaprogramming" which again is something I never knew about.
* I started to learn about metaprogramming
* I looked for the specification and the intuition of adding decorators in TypeScript.
* I searched for TC-39 proposals to see if there is an intuition to introduce that to JavaScript as well and I found a proposal (currently stage 2). The proposal itself taught me stuff about metaprogramming and decorators that I didn't find in my learning journey before.
The second part is, I set a goal per quarter to learn about something that would help me do my job better and improve my skills. I do quick research and pick a reference. That reference again would lead me to interesting topics that I don't know about. Right after that, I try to apply what I've learned/learning into something practical (at work, side project ... etc).
My goal for this quarter is about cybersecurity.

ScaredyCats’s Profile Photo

Does the job you currently have, represent you/where you want to go in life? What are some things you love about it? How did you get it? How was the interview process? If you are currently unemployed and/or job searching, what do you see yourself pursuing? :)

Coolio247’s Profile PhotoJustine Coolioness
I'm a part time self-employed computer programmer and database designer/administrator. It suits my interests and skills quite well. The hourly rate is very good, which means I can get away with working very few hours, which I like. I'm done with 10 hour days and 2 hours of commuting each day. I'd rather have the free time than the money,
Being self employed, I found the interview process to be remarkably easy, haha.

I saw in your bio you said you were a game developer. Isn’t that when you make games or is that just adding to them?

demilovatofan2001’s Profile PhotoAria
Most of us have assuming or concept that game developers make games, playing games which is wrong. A game developer works in not only in games, we are working in AR/VR technologies too. Mainly we are programmer who writes programming language code of game and AR/VR technology. Story, UI design, Animation, graphics designing etc. are in another sector. In another words you can understand well with the title Game "Developer" which means who develops something. We writes code. Hope you understand now. Thank you for asking question about my field. For further clarification, feel free to ask me anything.

If you have the opportunity to live in a virtual reality world of your own creation, what would it look like?

BasmaUtopia8’s Profile PhotoBæsmə ( Bardolatry bibliopole)
Mine would be kind of interesting as it would be after my dream life has “peaked” imagine, a man starting a town out in the middle of no where, growing it up, before being offered membeship in what seems to be the perfect empire But alas, that empire is not perfect, and after trying to make change in the empire, the man gets kicked out and ostracised by everyone. So he starts working to over throw the homophobic, noble loving empire, and eventually he does. And do you wanna know what he does? He makes his own empire, a better empire, a shield for others. And in time that empire takes over everything, and the man, takes off his helmet-crown, puts it on his throne, and hands power to his nine generals. While him and his queen finally have the chance to be happy, and they go off and have a small farm and raise some kiddos, and live happily ever after. The starter parts were based off of how things have gone in the minecraft metaverse, but the ending is how I want things to go. It would be an infinite world within infinite worlds, like matriochka dolls, where I could spend an infinite period of time while, in reality, just a heart beat would have passed.
There would be billions and trillions of different physical laws, dimensions, scales and strings, colors, genders, intelligent species, truths, gods, and beauties to share. No one would ever be bored in there, time and space would simply big bang into multiverses no one would ever be able to grasp. I would try to create never-ending infinite eternity. With or without redundancy. Nor latency… of course. And I would be happy. It looks exactly as you see it now. We do live in a virtual reality world of our own creation. well, technically, our brains creation. We just observe it. It's based on an unperceivable actual reality, or so we assume. There's no way to confirm we're not a brain in a vat or ourselves virtual beings. I have always enjoyed creating virtual worlds, and Second Life is a place like no other. You can build things and write your own software for those things- inside the ‘game’ itself. Show me another such thing where your video game avatar actually codes inside the game- I haven’t seen it- I’ll be anxious to know. If you are a programmer in Second Life, you can have god-like powers. The laptop in the image above really works- you can surf the Internet with it. I’ve owned and created many virtual worlds at this point. I like to make cyberpunk trash-filled dystopias with areas of super high tech in the vein of Blade Runner, and beautiful fantasy realms. My lands are dangerous, and you can be killed in them. Second Life has blood, realistic explosions and so many interesting things that people have created, that no list could contain them.

y=a.f(x)+b.g(x)

Computer Science. Am a computer addict. It has always been my passion to get into computers, and unfortunately what I take at Uni is so gross. Things that doesn't benefit me as a programmer whatsoever and bad instructors.

I feel that the education does not match the practical life. For me as English teacher., I've studied English literature but when I started working I found a gab,, what I studied, semantic, syntax and literature don't work!, I teach young children so I faced many many obstacles at the beginning of the year.
