taylorswift_poland’s Profile Photo#tsc Taylor Swift Poland
Wiecej o kulturach, sztuce i historii różnych państw.
I chcialam brnąć w to dalej. I tak oto jestem. 😉💚

I'd say the same about Slovak! I think the Germans and Dutch are really the only ones who will have a shot at guessing what I was saying Haha

Yes I believe 😁.... Slavic languages are very different from Germanic ones 😅 But as you can see as per likes of my spoken answer, Russian (Slavs) probably understood 😊.

I'm german by nationality and my ethnicity lies somewhere between german and russian. My parents are from Kazakhstan/Estonia while ethnically not being either. My father grew up somewhere between german and russian culture while my mother lived in a similar situation between russian and estonian. In german there is a word to describe people with my background it's called Russlanddeutsche (Russia-german) which is also what I consider myself to be. I'm Norwegian and I have "ethnic Norwegian" traits, most prominently the nose with a bump on the tip. I have Scottish ancestors (royal ones, apparently), Danish relatives, and something something Yugoslavia. Nobody knows the identity of my paternal grandpa's biological father (just grandpa and possibly grandma, but we dare not ask). I'm American but we can pretty reliably trace my ancestors to Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland (maybe Northern Ireland for one branch), potentially France depending on where the border was at the time so I guess you could say "European" of some type for ethnicity. Though maybe Catholic is better for ethnicity as that is where most of our family traditions come from. We do hold over some mostly symbolic German and Irish customs and a little bit of Swiss stuff but with the Swiss it is mostly stuff my parents picked up when they lived there for a brief time, nothing to do with my actual family ancestry. I am Finnish (Karelian, actually, but it's probably both anyway) and French-Canadian. The "Finnish" family actually got around quite a bit in Europe, so I do have some stuff from the slavic nations. I say French Canadian because I am not sure if I'm 100% French. I've been mistaken for French abroad though (which quickly became annoying), so I'm mostly French. We are relatively recent to the US, 1920sish and 50s. I'm half "Mexican" on my father's side (more like Cuban, since my dad's family moved to Mexico from Cuba) and half non-Hispanic white on my mothers side, I don't really know her ancestry, though. I don't feel very Mexican culturally, though. My mother's side is Italian. She's the first one on her side of the family since our family came to America in the early 1900's to not marry an Italian. They're still very much Italian-American as opposed to just being Americans. My dad's side is Slavic and Austrian. His side isn't as proud of the heritage as my mom's side is. They're much more traditionally American. Basically, my family history is all of the main bad guys from World War II and the Cold War.

Hi Tommy !!! Me and my daughter are not able to identify whether this girl is Slovak speaking so incredibly english or some girl from England or US. Are you able to determine it as per accent? https://ask.fm/LarryStylestomlinson436/answers/160716149147/likes

She's not from Britain or the US, judging from her dialect, I'm guessing she's from your country, since she knows about Slovak geography (mentioning the Tatra Mountains as well as Slovakia's borders with other countries) and knows that many regard the Slovak language as the most beautiful Slavic language 😊
Although it's obvious she's learned English from an American teacher since when she pronounces certain words it sounds more American than it does British 😊
She's very good at speaking English though 👍 😁

Akhir akhir ini aku suka membaca khususnya mitologi, ada referensi buku tentang mitologi (yunani, nordik, dll)? Dan juga buku tentang astronomi?

Kalau mau Yunani, baca langsung aja. Penguin Books abis rilis lagi seri antik dan klasik, di antaranya The Iliad sama The Odyssey. Fair warning, Iliad itu epic poem, jadi mungkin kalo ga biasa baca puisi panjang begitu bakal butuh pembiasaan.
Kalau aku gak salah inget, Project Gutenberg punya rekaman Prose Edda sama Poetic Edda. Aku enggak inget ada terjemahan Inggrisnya apa enggak, coba dicek.
Untuk Mesir, wikisource punya beberapa transkrip bahasa Inggris teks, dari Pyramid Texts sampai Book of the Dead.
Aku kelabakan dulu nyarinya. Eropa Kontinental, Slavic, sama beberapa agama Native American juga. Slavic especially tricky karena agama mereka gak kenal sistem penulisan, mereka baru kenal alfabet setelah Kristen masuk.

Eu sou apaixonada UAHSUASHAUAHS.

I got Veles, the god of the Underworld! I must say that if kinda fits, since I adore everything that concerns the underworld (and since I adore Hades in Greek mythology). I've read some things about slavic mythology and I'm really intrigued by it! Actually, I adore everything that concerns Gods and Goddesses. And no, I'm not of slavic origins.

https://www.quizony.com/which-slavic-god-are-you/index.html You heard of slavic gods? You think the one you got fits you? What do you know about slavic mythology? Are you of slavic origin?

You are: Zorja Utrennjaja, the Morning Star. • Zorja U and her sister protect the world from the ultimate annihilation of all existence. That's their job. Zorja U is also married to the supreme god in the Slavic pantheon, Perun. She does have some fun; she's also the goddess of horses, protection, and Venus. Oh, and she's also the goddess of exorcism! It can't all be wine and roses.
• You heard of slavic gods? → Yes, even if not as much as for the Greek and Egyptian mythology.
• You think the one you got fits you? → I like this result, I had never heard of this goddess before! I love horses, I'm very protective... and the "exorcism" point is hella creepy but hey, why not? If it's to do some demon hunt, lol!
• What do you know about slavic mythology? → Not much, I think I only know the tale of the witch Baba Yaga? I have to read more about this mythology, for sure.
• Are you of slavic origin? → No, not that I know in any case.

Baba Yaga • Yes, you've heard of her in fairy tales, but the older, original version of this goddess is nuts. If you met her and survived, you'd want to get her a mental health checkup. Baba Yaga is the Slavic goddess of death. She gets around in her house made of bones--her house walks, on giant chicken legs. If she doesn't turn you to stone with her eyes and then crush your bones, you might be able to manipulate her into asking you to dinner. If you gain entry, she becomes nice and gives you great advice to enrich your life. Crazy!
You heard of slavic gods? • Never! Or i can't recall it at the moment.
You think the one you got fits you? • I'm a dark person, but not that dark?!
What do you know about slavic mythology? • Not much.
Are you of slavic origin? • I have no idea.

Chernobog [black god] • the god of evil, he is in charge of bad luck, chaos, disaster – and he does it all for fun! People used to literally spit curses into a bowl before dinner on feast days, so he'd stay away and they could enjoy the holiday!
• You heard of slavic gods? → yep, there's many stories and myths around them in my culture.
• You think the one you got fits you? → I would not consider myself as evil, but he is one of the interesting gods.
• What do you know about slavic mythology? → there's many myths I already knew from childhood since they're part of Polish culture. Like water spirits called Rusałki or the witch Baba Yaga.

Hi Mario, since Russia shares a border with China, I am curious if you have ever encountered a Russian who knows a Chinese dialect (Hokkien, Mandarin, Cantonese, etc) when you were studying abroad? What second languages do Russians in your university back then usually speak?

Actually, no. I don't know any Russian who even speaks Chinese in my then university. A lot of Chinese did go to my college, but none of the Russians knew any Chinese.
In a funny way, in my university back then, the second most spoken language was not English. There were some students who understood few English words, but almost none of them actually spoke English. I met a lot of Russians who also spoke French, and the reason why was due to their historical background. Apparently, the Russians love the French.
-
Most of them could understand other Slavic languages like we understand Malay, but almost none considered language such as Ukrainian or Bulgarian as their second language. There are others whose second language was Italian or German, but they were the minority. A pastor I know spoke Polish, and there was one guy who spoke Hungarian.
Interestingly, in my community, the second languages were very diverse, yet English speakers were countable.

Yes, there are similarities in some words, like in other slavic languages))) but our language is more beautiful and emotional and very similar with belarusian and polish languages, also with bulgarian and serbian languages. I can show our national song about cozacks, which fight against turkish and mongolian enemies. I was going to ask you for keep going but since i don't want to bother you, I would wish to ask you for links instead since Russian / Slavic magical objects are not very famous in the 'western part' of Internet (it's okay even if it's written in Russian). PS: Thank you for the help.

+1 answer in: “In Russian (or Slavic to the extend) are there any "legendary" weapons other than Mech-kladenets?”

From your Belgian perspective, to what extent do you think it is good for Russia to maintain a Slavic and anti-Western rhetoric?

My perspective wouldn't be that of most Belgians. Being myself Orthodox, a Slav and a russophile (like the majority of my people) certainly is a factor that should be taken into account.
I think that it is a good thing for Russia to secure its sovereignty rather than having to answer to the liberal "international community" and its ideological orthodoxy. Most of the anti-Western rhetoric stands for opposing the wrong turns the West took, like liberalism, progressivism, decadence, secularisation, foreign interventionism, etc. Beyond that, Russia and the West are related by common history to a significant extent, Russians themselves are Europeans, even if their empire extends beyond Europe.
Under different circumstances, Russia could benefit from maintaining a much less anti-Western rhetoric and even consider itself as part of broader Christian/Western civilization. But currently the Western elites stand for imposing post-war liberal democracy to any country it can and making a proxy for its internationalist elites. So Russia really only has the choice between being subordinate and on friendly terms, or sovereign and demonised.
Russia, like China, is giving up on subordinating itself to "international" anything (socialism or liberalism). That, of course, is not a sufficient condition for prosperity, cultural and religious rebirth, and higher birth rates. But it is something, since there is no way to know when, if ever, the West would rid itself of the heritage of 1789 (and even 1517). Being independent has its perks over being dragged into whatever deracinated cosmopolitans decides should be the next tenet of their ideological orthodoxy.
For the Slavic part, I think that Russia seeing itself as the leader of Orthodox Slavdom is a good thing, though obviously impeded by its loss of influence over some ex-Eastern bloc countries. Hence its focus on alliances with mostly non-Slavic countries who are outside of Washington's zone of influence.
FYI, the average Belgian seems to be either for leaving Russia alone but hoping it would become more like the West (even if in moderation), or strongly against Putin's government and in agreement with Atlanticists and interventionists.

And here's the same prayer, same language, but from "Old Ritualists", i.e. the churches wich segregated from Russian Orthodox Church in te 17th century due to reform of the liturgy which they despised. Among other differences there was that they had kept the "Znamenny" chant, an older, not influenced by the European manner, church singing. So check out how differently the same prayer sounds in it:

Yes, I suppose. People are coming around. Some of them are leaving traditional news sources for citizen journalists. I’m satisfied with Sputnik and RT. The truth is, Russian state media represents Russian interests just like British state media represents (most of the times) British state interests. The majority of people have that clear. We don’t have to wonder whose interests they represent.
The other day I saw a local news website translate Dostoyevsky’s 1877 comments on the Slavic Question. I was pleased with that!

No, I haven't heard about it.
I don't think it'd be better if they all spoke only one language because people speaking different languages is what makes them unique. Languages are often tied to cultures so if you erase a language, you're erasing a huge part of the culture it belongs to.

Well, I don't care if they help foreigner to learn slavic languages.
I'm somehow really against it. Every language has it history. Slovakian language is not so old language like, in this actual form we are talking only 200 years. From history it was such a hard work to make a new language for Slovakian people who were oppressed by Hungary for a long time.
At the end we finally got a language for ourselves and then all slavic people should speak only one language? 😬

That sounds... ridiculous to me.
In my tiny-weeny little country there is already so much language diversity.
You can't force such a large area to learn one language and even if, let's say, hypothetically, all Slavic speaking people would learn one language it would soon enough change so much that in the end, east can't comprehend west anymore.
I mean if Slavic speaking people actually want that then I'm fine with it but I think each language is beautiful on its own.

You refer to slavic people as "they" so it means you're not one yourself. So how possibly you can know what is better for them?
In what way it would be better? For being all the same? Language shows their individuality. Language is every country's pride. We should respect it.
And you want to just erase it.
